BMW M2 Tested on Nurburgring, Spy Shots Revealed
The upcoming BMW M2 was recently spied while performing some tests at the Nurburgring, standing side-by-side with other new BMW prototypes, like the 2016 BMW 328e plug-in hybrid or the new 7-Series. As seen in the shots, the new M2 will be more aggressive and will underpin a higher power under the hood.
First, the upcoming BMW M2 will sport a lot of fresh body elements, mainly consisting of carbon fiber components and other latest lightweight materials which will make the sports car faster. Additionally, the new M2 will make use of large air intakes, revised bumper which now looks sportier, as well as rear end flares.
Second, according to latest information and side view spy shots, the BMW M2 is also set to come with shifting paddles on the steering wheel, indicating and a DCT gearbox. And judging by the larger shifting paddles, the sports car is believed to be fitted with a seven-speed transmission and not the eight-speed one, as previously rumored. Apart from that, the BMW M2 will sport a rear-wheel drive system, while an xDrive version will be also offered later on.
Under the hood, the BMW M2 will be fitted with a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder unit, with direct injection, which will output around 370 horsepower. Mind the fact that this unit is not the same one used on the new BMW M3 and BMW M4. The power would be enough to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds, at a topping of 250 km/h. The model is due to arrive at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show and will have a starting price of $50,000.
