Top Gear Car of the Year award goes to the BMW i8
The BMW i8 is currently the flagship model within the i range and even though it was revealed in 2013 at Frankfurt, it still gets some special attention. This time, the well-known Top Gear magazine awarded the German hybrid sports car with the Top Gear Car of the Year prize.
The BMW i8 is a perfect balance between high-performance and fuel economy. It packs a 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo engine, an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery for a total output of 362 horsepower.

With such resources, it sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 4,4 seconds with a top speed limited at 250 km/h.

Even though the 37 km range on electricity is not very impressive, the average fuel economy of 2,1 liters/100 km or 134,5 mpg UK is certainly a strong point in BMW’s favor.

Charlie Turner, Top Gear’s editor-in-chief, said that the BMW i8 is “a beautiful vision of the future, delivered now”. He also said that it is a kind of car that we should celebrate.
