2015 Frankfurt Motor Show: BMW 225xe Plug-In Hybrid Unveiled
The latest model from the 2-Series which is based on the Active Tourer as well, the BMW 225xe plug-in hybrid, has been recently unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. This is one of the most fuel-efficient versions that the 2-Series has to offer, the hybrid also coming with some interesting performance figures. Once it will hit production at the end of the year, the model will have a base entry-level price of 37,800 euros.
From a visual standpoint, the BMW 225xe is coming with a lot of body features from the 2-Series Active Tourer. Apart the same design cues, the 225xe plug-in hybrid is also packing a good-to-know hybrid powertrain underneath the skin. The BMW 225xe packs a 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder unit, hooked to an electric motor via a 7.7 kWh lithium-ion battery.
The engine is sending 136 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque to the front wheels, while the electric motor is outputting another 88 horsepower and 165 Nm of torque to the rear wheels. The overall output stands at a good 224 horsepower and 385 Nm of torque.
I can`t say that this particular plug-in hybrid is pretty fast, the figures stopping at 6.7 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h, but what can we expect from a family plug-in hybrid? The topping sits at 202 km/h. Even if the figures might not impress much, the 225xe is quite fuel efficient, managing 2.0-2.1 L / 100 km/h, with a mile range of 25 km and CO2 emissions standing at 46-49 g/km.
