BMW 5-Series GT Prototype Launched at 2014 Group Innovation Days
With the 2014 Group Innovation Days event taking place these days, the BMW German based considered it a good opportunity to unveil the 5-Series GT prototype, alongside the 3-Series Plug-in Hybrid prototype.
What is revolutionary about the 5-Series GT is that the prototype will be coming with the eDrive and the Twin Power Turbo Technology, which will set the paces for the future of plug-in hybrid vehicles.
The BMW 5-Series GT prototype will be fed by a conventional unit which will be used as a generator to produce electricity for the two electric motors, while a 20kW lithium-ion battery will also supply an extra mile range.
The two electric motors are displayed at the front and at the rear producing power separately, for the front wheels as well as for the rear wheels. The front one will send the power through an 8-speed transmission, while the rear motor will be operated via a multi-speed transmission.
The BMW 5-Series GT prototype will produce an overall 680 horsepower and a huge 1,015 Nm of torque, while the lithium-ion battery will provide an extra 100 km mile range.
