BMW i3
BMW i3 is the first model within the i range of the German company, a fully electric city car assembled at the Leipzig plant. Scheduled to enter the market somewhere in 2013, the new BMW i3 is the first electric model which provides a driving range of 160 kilometers.
Under the bonnet sits an electric motor able to deliver 134 horsepower while a 16 kWh lithium-ion battery stores the energy for a zero-emission ride. The lightweight structure made of carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) ensures a low total mass which puts in value the performance of the model.
The new BMW i3 has been revealed in world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show few days ago along with the BMW i8, the second model from the i range.
The new BMW i8 is a hybrid sports model which is based on the Vision EfficientDynamics concept introduced few years ago. In this case, the German supercar will enter the market later than the BMW i3, most probably in 2014 in a limited series. By the time, new models will join the existing vehicles of the BMW I range.
