BMW M3
The BMW M3 is a sports model for the 3 Series from BMW. Since 1986, BMW offers the 3-series based on the model BMW M3. It is a vehicle that the BMW subsidiary of BMW M GmbH developed and initially (E30 & E36 M3) was also produced. The later series (BMW E46 & E90 M3) emerged / emerge on the bands of the AG. The BMW M3 is a particularly powerful variant of each of the 3 Series model range.
BMW M3 E30
Based on the 1986 BMW 3 Series E30, the first BMW M3 was introduced with a 2.3 liter S14 engine, derived from the BMW M10 4-block in-line architecture and dual overhead cam 16-valve head.
The first version produced 195 hp (143 kW), 200hp and then some other versions numbered (Evo1, Evo2, Cecotto, Ravaglia, Europa-Meister-evolution Sport, Tour de Course) with powers between 215hp and 238hp.
BMW M3 E36
The second BMW M3 Series (E36 series) was introduced in 1992 by Motorsport GmbH, based in the first production phase on the two-door coupe. She had a straight six-cylinder 2990cc and four valves per cylinder. He had an output of 210 kW and had already VANOS (intake camshaft only). The maximum torque was 320 Nm at 3600 min-1. The significantly increased engine power of the new M3 demanded a revision of the chassis and the brakes.
Starting with the first BMW M3 E36 delivered, BMW racers began pressuring BMW for a race-ready version with which to compete against the Porsche 911 sports car racing.
In 1995, BMW started the production of the M3 CSL and BMW Individual. Upon completion were sent to Prototype Technology Group (PTG??) Racing in Virginia for final preparation.
This car was built from 2000 to 2007. The BMW M3 E46 appeared worldwide with the new engine of 3.2L S54B32 At the time of the introduction of cars, this engine had the highest output specifications for a naturally aspirated engine ever built by BMW, producing 343hp and 365 Nm (262 TQ). The M3 engine, naturally aspirated S54 produces over 100 hp/ liter (340 bhp/3.2 liter), a remarkable fact.
There were two special edition models of the E46 M3 produced: the M3 CSL and the M3 GTR.
The current generation of the BMW M3 is available in three body styles available as a sedan (Series E90), coupe (E92) and Convertible (E93). Some visual details of its predecessor, like the bump on the bonnet, wider wheel arches, the four exhaust tailpipes and the air intakes on the wings, were adopted. The mirrors are similar to those of the BMW M3 E36. In September 2008, the M3 sedan received simultaneously with the other one E90/91 facelift.
The engine develops 420hp (309kW) at 8300 rpm and a torque of 400 Nm at 3900 tr/min. The motor does not reach the high specific torque of the S54 engine from the E46, because the V8 is designed as a short-stroke, in order to reduce the S54 excessive piston speeds at maximum speed. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4,8s so it is a very powerful sports car.
