With BMW unveiling the latest generation of the X5 midsized luxury SUV more than three months ago, it was just a matter of time until the high-performance plug-in hybrid variant would make its appearance in the range list, thus joining the xDrive40i, xDrive50i and the xDrive30d.

The model in question is the long-expected 2019 X5 xDrive45i iPerformance, which is regarded as one of the most imposing hybrids from BMW`s entire range.

Besides the massive size and extremely appealing design language, the SUV`s main highlight is the hybrid drivetrain under the hood. It`s what makes the variant more powerful and more efficient than the ongoing model released back in 2016.

We are dealing here with a 3.0-liter Twin-Power Turbo six-cylinder petrol engine, paired to an electric motor. The conventional engine outputs 286 horsepower while the electric adds another 110 horsepower. With a total of 388 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque, the new X5 xDrive45e iPerformance is now more powerful and more fuel efficient.

The amazing performance figures are also achieved thanks to an eight-speed automatic transmission paired to an all-wheel drive system, which comes standard. Other characteristics will be added later on, like electronically controlled dampers or air suspension.

Speaking of fuel-efficiency, the car`s lithium-ion battery pack allows you to drive the SUV for around 80 km without no fuel and at a top speed of 140 km/h, which is another plus compared with the ongoing model.

As for acceleration, the 2019 BMW X5 iDrive45e iPerformance is also quite impressive. At a top speed of 235 km/h it can hit 100 km/h in an outstanding 5.6 seconds. Again, compared with its predecessor, it`s 1 second faster.

As for its availability on the market, we`ve got some pretty bad news for the US customers, as the model will arrive overseas somewhere in 2020. In Europe however, you will be able to get a taste of the new plug-in hybrid sooner, in early 2019.

Even if the overall details with the upcoming BMW X7 are not fresh, a new report issued by Autocar indicates that the high-end SUV would be also launched with a new hybrid version. This wouldn’t be a surprise, especially since almost each branch within the carmaker`s lineup is going to come with a hybrid and an all-electric version as well.

The report from Autocar is quite reliable, especially since it comes from a source inside the company, and which confirms that the X7 hybrid will be present on the road at the beginning of 2018, along with the standard X7 SUV.
Once decided for production line, the all-new BMW X7 hybrid will adopt the 7-Series 740e` drivetrain, consisting of a 2.0-liter twin-turbo gasoline mill plus an electric motor as well. The overall output would be around 326 horsepower.

Besides the high-performance hybrid drivetrain, the new X7 plug-in will resemble the standard SUV, meaning a more evolutionary design with advanced aerodynamics. We should be able to see an updated front with huge double kidney grille and some other styling tweaks with inspiration from the new X5.

In terms of luxury, the entire X7 range will come with the latest high-end materials and plenty of gadgetries inside, borrowed from the 5- or the 7-Series. Speaking about high-tech gizmos and luxury, Ian Robertson, BMW sales and market CEO, has also declared:

“We will have some versions that are top-end luxury, as well as more mainstream versions. I can’t talk about pricing now, but given that this car will have all the technology and luxury of the 7 Series, it gives you a pretty good idea of the price point we’re talking about.”

Amongst the interior`s top features we should mention the semi-autonomous driving, updated infotainment system with smartphone integration, the latest head-up display, leather and carbon fiber trims on the seats and dash, and much more.

If you are a hot-shot, businessman, journalist or just an ordinary guy owing a BMW, then you should take it out on Autobahn for a fast spin.

At least this what Conan O`Brian did, a famous American TV presenter, when it came to Germany: it took the BMW i8 and wanted to have some fun on the well-known “German Mecca of Speed.” The whole deal was recorded in the video below, called: “Conan`s Fast & Furious Autobahn Adventure.”

And indeed, driving on Autobahn at high speeds can be sometimes more than an adventure, but the thrill of driving such an exquisite German engineering cuts off the fears that something might go wrong.

Of course, Conan couldn’t be alone in this Autobahn quest and had a BMW instructor by his side, who filled him in on how he should drive such a fast and powerful model on the German`s high-speed motorway.

With help standing by his side, Conan took matter into his own hands and took advantage of the car`s impressive 357 horsepower to speed up to 230 km/h, while delivering the wildest screams. Of course, that was the time when adrenaline kicked off. But you`d better hit the play button and enjoy the fun video!

As a reminder, the BMW i8 kicked-off at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show and is currently built at the carmaker`s plant in Leipzig, Germany, coming with a 7.1 kWh lithium-ion battery pack “with a usable capacity of 5.2 kWh”, providing an electric range of 37 km.

The BMW i8 plug-in hybrid has a total output of 357 horsepower (266 kW) and 570 Nm (420 lb-ft) of torque. The model is also extremely fuel-efficient, coming with around 2.1L / 100 km, while the CO2 emissions stand at 49 g/km.

It is no secret that BMW has big plans for its model range, the German based carmaker already announcing a serious of important changes, like introducing more high-end and powerful variants, without leaving behind the plug-in and the full-electric segments aside.

In fact, recently, representatives within the company have already stated that there is no intention of leaving the electric sector blank in the years to come, as at least one version from the carmaker`s model range will become electric.

In that sense, Harald Kruger, the famous CEO at BMW Group has recently declared in an interview with Car and Driver that the company plans to introduce electric models by 2020, without leaving aside the rest of the high-end models.

I mean, why not developing extremely powerful electric versions which will equally sort of “rival” their conventional siblings. Not the mention the plethora of technology on board, like the autonomous driving technology, which will be a plus while driving in crowded metropolitan areas.

Speaking about autonomous driving system, Klaus Frolich, development director at BMW, has also declared that “It`s not fun to drive in heavy traffic. It`s not fun to be in a dense area and try to find a parking. These autonomous abilities will be an option for the driver to choose, not the only mode. Our drivers will always have a choice, and out architectures can do both. It`s not rocket science. It`s not difficult.”

So it would be extremely beneficial for the company to develop all-together electric cars, high-end and luxurious models, and top of the line sports cars. Not to mention the plug-in hybrid sector, which will continue its development as a separate counterpart.

The 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show was the perfect opportunity for BMW`s subsidiary MINI to unveil the long-anticipated 2017 Cooper S E Countryman ALL4, already previewed a couple of weeks ago.

The 2017 MINI Cooper S E Countryman ALL4 plug-in hybrid comes with new styling cues and lots of new features inside, while in the engine department, the model received a high-performance plug-in hybrid drivetrain with impressive power and mile range.

In terms of design, the new Cooper S E Countryman ALL4 comes with distinctive bits that separates it from the rest of the class, like the yellow “S” badge on the rear, yellow “E” badge on the rear, radiator grille and door sill finishers, as well as the new flap found on the front fender which reveals the presence of the power socket.

Inside, the cabin welcomes you with the standard 6.5-inch color screen for the MINI Connected infotainment system in the center instrument panel, with tones of information to be displayed, about charging level of the high-voltage battery or the hybrid`s drive operating mode. Other features also include the instrument cluster on the steering column or the yellow start/stop function.

In the engine department, the all-new 2017 MINI Cooper S E Countryman ALL4 features a conventional 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine and an electric motor, which an overall of 221 horsepower and 385 Nm of torque, allowing a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.8 seconds, via a modified six-speed Steptronic setup. As for the fuel-consumption, the model burns out just 2.1 liter for every 100 km.

BMW is definitely a pioneer when it comes to equipping different Police Departments worldwide, and the latest department to receive such high-performance cars is no other than the NSW Rose Bay Police, in Sidney, Australia.

Superintendent Bradley Hodder officially confirmed the good news yesterday, also stating that it is an honor for the local police to have received such an extraordinary car from BMW, especially since there are no taxes to be paid for borrowing the BMW i8.

“This BMW is the latest in a number of different vehicles that we have utilised at Rose Bay Local Area Command to raise awareness and engage with the community. It is a great community engagement tool that will be used at a number of police events to showcase the role police play in the community,” Hodder also added.

On the other hand, Simon Macedone, Dealer at BMW Sidney has also said that their partnership with Rose Bay Police ”the perfect way to demonstrate” their commitment ”to the community, while raising awareness and engagement for the station.”

The BMW i8 will be used as a community car to ensure that safety is the main priority of the local police, and will act as well as a law enforcement tool when needed.

The BMW takes its power from an electric motor with 131 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque.The electric motor is backed by an I3 1.5-liter turbo engine, with an additional 228 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque, outputting a total of 357 horsepower and 570 Nm of torque.

The plug-in hybrid sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds on pure electric, coming as well with an all-electric range of 35 km, at a topping of 120 km/h. The overall range stands at 530 km.

With BMW presently working on a new range of plug-in hybrids – even if almost each segment already has at least one plug-in hybrid version – MINI isn`t letting its fans down and has already announced the arrival of the all-new MINI Countryman Cooper S E plug-in.

This would be a premiere for the British based carmaker, the model coming with some special ingredients as well that will make it extremely appreciated on the market. Besides the electric configuration, the model also comes with the same driving dynamics as the rest of the MINI model lineup.

Speaking about performance, the 2017 MINI Countryman Cooper S E plug-in features a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-three engine displaced at the front, hooked to an electric motor at the back. The combustion engine comes with 134 horsepower while the mortor supplements the power with an additional 87 horsepower, being sent to the rear wheels.

With a total of 221 horsepower and 284 lb-ft of torque, the 2017 MINI Countryman plug-in is also fast, allowing a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in a good 6.8 seconds.

Besides the good power and torque, the carmaker`s first hybrid model is also coming with other exceptional features. It comes with an electric range of 24 miles, at a topping of 77 mph. Also, the model is also extremely fuel-efficient, burning out just 2.1 liter per 100 km, while the CO2 emissions stand at 49 g/km.

In terms of driving dynamics, the 2017 Countryman hybrid features three driving modes – Auto eDrive with 55 mph with electric, Max eDrive with full electric driving mode, as well as the Save Battery mode. Full prices and official debut will be known at a later date.

With all the fuss revolving around BMW`s new planning of new plug-in hybrid versions, it was just a matter of time until MINI subsidiary would also create its first plug-in hybrid model. And below, we have the chance of previewing in a premiere the British carmaker`s first plugger, the model coming with low fuel-consumption and CO2 emissions.

The MINI Plug-in Hybrid was recently previewed at a special event in Munich, Germany, by two important figures responsible for the creation of the model: Sebastian Mackensen, brand manager, as well as Peter Wolf, Head of MINI series management.

Mackensen started the car`s presentation stating that the MINI Plug-in Hybrid is the perfect hybrid version for the company to start convincing “MINI customers of the benefits of hybrid drive”, and also impressing “everyone who already has hybrid driving experience with MINI`s unique go-kart driving feel”.

Also, both CEOs agreed that the MINI`s first plug-in hybrid is a fun driving car “with zero tailpipes emissions”, as it features a combustion engine and an electric motor, with zero emissions for about 20 miles. This is possible thanks to the new technology that allows the engine to take over when the batteries will have been completely drained. This is actually the same technology that BMW is using on its current i8 plug-in hybrid.

Besides the low CO2 emissions, the MINI Plug-in Hybrid is also capable to deliver impressive acceleration, and that thanks to the electric motor`s good torque. Also, in the AUTO eDrive mode, the plug-in hybrid`s high-voltage battery pack found beneath the rear seats, can achieve speeds up to 50 mph, while in the MAX eDrive mode, the speeds can increase up to 75 mph. The carmaker will announce full details on the MINI plug-in Hybrid later on this year.

BMW revealed the all-new and long-expected 2017 G30 5-Series about five days ago, with the model reaching dealerships in February and March, respectively, next year, the entire lineup coming with exceptional and top styling features, the latest technology inside the cabin, as well as a plethora of high-performance engine under the hood.

Each version from the 5-Series is special, as it comes with particular features that sets it aside. And so it happens with the G30 53-e iPerformance, a plug-in hybrid designed for low fuel consumption and increase mile range.

Design wise, the BMW 530e iPerformance demonstrates that it can be a sporty yet a truly luxurious version, best fitted for real businessmen. And the aggressive character and imposing stance say it all, the car standing out from the crowd with unique kidney grille slats in “i” blue accent, along with the blue wheel hub covers, or the “i” logo on the front side wall. The doorsill finishers or the Hofmeister kink are also treated with the eDrive badges.

Inside, the cabin features the standard yet the latest technology implemented on the entire lineup, but adds My BMW Remote App with iOS and Android connectivity, with all the information you need to know about your 550e iPerformance, including battery charge level, range mile status, available charging stations on the road and so on. Otherwise, the interior also feels luxurious thanks to the plethora of high-end materials.

As the name suggests, the car`s main attribute and standout qualities are found under the hood, the model packing a 2.0-liter four-cylinder TwinPower Turbo petrol working in relation with an electric motor, exceprional qualities that makes it a genuine iPerformance variant. The overall power stands at 250 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque, available between 1,450 – 4,000 rpm, and allowing a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in a good 6.2 seconds. The top speed is set at 250 km/h.

The plug-in hybrid`s main highlight is the 45 km range, at a top speed of 140 km/h, as well as the low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, making it thus the most fuel-efficient 5-Series ever produced. We are looking here at just 2.0L per each 100 km, burning out just 46 grams of CO2 emissions.

As for the high-voltage 9.2 kWh lithium-ion battery, the system can be charged using a standard household power socket, or using a public charging station with special cable and accessoriesfor BMW plug-in hybrids alone.

The G30 BMW 530e iPerformance will be launched in Europe next March, with prices to be officially confirmed prior to its arrival in dealerships.

BMW announced the prices for the 2016 X5 xDrive40e in Germany a couple of days ago and now, the carmaker is already preparing the plug-in hybrid SUV for the United States, where it will arrive at the end of the year as a 2016 model.

The carmaker is asking a standard price of $63,095, which is higher than the six-cylinder X5, which comes with $54,895 in the sDrive and $57,195 in the standard xDrive.

As the European sibling, the 2016 BMW X5 xDrive40e will arrive in the US with an evolutionary design, while the cabin will offer a generous space for both passengers and their luggage. We are talking here about an overall cargo capacity standing at 1,720 liters.

Under the hood, the 2016 X5 BMW xDrive40e will pack the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder, backed by an electric motor, both configurations developing an overall 308 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. The hybrid powertrain is also hooked to a 9.0-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, with a presuming 13 mile range. Apart the fuel-efficiency capacity, the xDrive40e is also extremely environmentally friendly, the hybrid SUV coming with CO2 emissions standing at 78-77 g/km.
