If I told you that I had to hold my breath before announcing the 2015 International Engine of the Year Awards, I would be a liar, as I was almost sure that this amazing award would go to the one and only BMW i8, which is the embodiment of perfectness when it comes to its powertrain.
The BMW i8 was nominated the best car during the 17th edition of the Engine of the Year Award, gathering an impressive jury with famous journalists from the auto industry all over the world, along with its 63 members, from 31 countries.
The BMW`s i8 impressive powertrain was given 274 points, the decision being carried out on grounds such as the extraordinary technology that its powertrain is incorporating as well as the impressive fuel-efficiency and low CO2 emissions the i8 is coming with.
To review the i8`s powertrain, the carmaker`s first plug-in hybrid is packed with the 1.5-liter three-cylinder hooked to a 6-speed automatic transmission, which sends the power to the rear, while the electric motor is adding up more power to the front wheels.
With an overall power of 362 horsepower, the impressive BMW i8 is capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds, which is an outstanding performance, sending the i8 high above other important sports cars.
