2011 Dakar 5th day: Stephane Peterhansel brings the first victory for BMW this edition

This year’s edition of the Dakar Rally started right on January 1st and will end on January 16th, 2011, challenging the participants to run up to 9,500 kilometers through difficult conditions starts to outline the leaders. In the 5th day of Dakar, the racers had to go through 423 kilometers from Calama to Iquique, somewhere in Chile.

The fastest to arrive at the finish line this day proved to be Stephane Peterhansel which did it in 4:33:19 managing to take the first place and offer the first victory of BMW in this season.

He managed to overcome the rivals from VW, namely Nasser Al-Attiyah and Carlos Sainz but however Sainz takes the first place in the overall rankings followed by Peterhansel and Al-Attiyah. Thanks to this victory, BMW’s rally driver managed to get closer in the overall rankings, just 2m26s separating him from the first place occupied by the Spanish rally driver from VV.
