When you think of BMW, you think of performance, elegance and precision. German engineering, most would agree, does not have rivals often. Even so, there are situations where errors appear. For a respected car manufacturer such as BMW, the main concern is customer satisfaction, which means that sometimes huge efforts have to be made in order to fix any faults that the producer might have overseen. As it happens, BMW has decided to recall 11,700 vehicles in order to fix an issue with the engine management software.

While the fault might not be that noticeable at first, rest assured that it could be dangerous if left unfixed. Simply looking at the way BMW decided to handle things is proof of how dangerous an issue with the car’s engine management software can be. The wrongly installed software, as BMW discovered, was the main problem for a couple of 5 Series and 7 Series models. While the issue does not seem to be quite hard to fix, the sheer number of affected vehicles meant a lot of time had to be spent in order to fix the issue.

BMW’s fast response shows the determination of the Bavarian automaker when it comes to satisfying its customers. Reputation can be increased greatly in such situations, on account of a professional approach regarding problem solving. Customers will not always check for a manufacturer to make as little mistakes as possible. They will also look at how that certain manufacturer solves unpredictable issues that may appear along the way. This issue with BMW’s engine management software for some models is an example of such a critical moment, in which the manufacturer has to react quickly and with great precision.

BMW has proven once again that it values its customers beyond any other thing. Thanks to the Bavarian automaker’s constant care for those that buy its products, BMW might actually have gained reputation instead of losing it, reputation that will prove valuable over time. The 11,700 vehicles in question will be fixed by BMW without any charge. This move shouldn’t surprise anybody, as the fault for this issue lies with the automaker and not the owners. All that remains to be seen is how fast BMW will manage to repair the 11,700 cars and how satisfied each owner will be with the time taken to fix the issue.

Globally, Takata airbags have posed a series safety threat, with a lot of carmakers to recall their models due to faulty installation.

The airbag inflation issue has also affected BMW in Japan, the German based carmaker recalling around 110,000 units.

There are 44 models to be affected, including the 116i and the 118i hatchback, closely followed by 320i sedans, being built between 2004 and 2012. The problem involved refers to faulty passenger airbag inflators that were made by the Japanese supplier.

Even since May, Japan`s transport ministry ordered BMW to recall almost 7 million cars which were fitted with the Takata airbag inflators in Japan, which came with dangerous chemical substances like ammonium nitrate-based propellant.

And because of prolonged exposure to humidity and hot conditions, the airbags could have the tendency of exploding, thus endangering the passengers inside the car in case of a crash. This means that the metal shrapnel could spread out and cause serious injuries. And the records are worried, as 14 deaths and 150 injuries have been already produced.

Takata seems to have lost a lot of money due to their faulty airbag inflators and the airbag supplier is trying to come up with a solution to regain their loss. It remains to be seen how the company will deal with this serious and aggravating situation!

The 2015 BMW i8 is an exceptional hypercar that revolutionized the entire auto industry with the latest technological advancements, but sometimes, even this extraordinary piece of German engineering does fall apart. Well, not literally.

BMW recently announced that 16 BMW i8 models were recalled to factory because of a problem reported at the stability control system. It seems that holes may have been drilled in the dynamic stability control system, which would negatively influence the car`s braking system in emergency situations. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has also confirmed the issue.

The affected models were manufactured between 29th of May, 2015 and 5th of June, 2015, and fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far. All models will return to the closest dealerships for a free replacement. Back in late 2014, 223 BMW i8 units were also recalled to factory due to a fuel leak.

As a reminder, the BMW i8 is quite revolutionary in terms of performance, as it packs a conventional 1.5-liter turbocharged inline three-cylinder engine, backed up by an electric motor. The overall power it produces stands at 357 horsepower and 570 Nm of torque, which makes the hybrid sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds, at a top speed of 250 km/h.

We mentioned last week that the German car maker BMW has issued a huge recall in China, involving a large portion of the sedans, the SUVs and even the Z4 roadster.

The issue involved an engine bolt with a manufacturing fault, which, in a few cases, can come loose and even snap, possibly damaging your engine.

Of course, a recall involving 230.000 units requires a lot of investigation, which BMW of course did. Unfortunately, after these investigations were concluded, they discovered that the issue was not limited to just the Bimmers sold in China, but also to a lot of units produced for North America, as well.

To this end, the recall was expanded to include an additional 156.137 vehicles, including the 1 Series, 3 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series, the X3, X5, X6 and Z4 Series manufactured between 2010 and 2012. As expected, this recall is totally free, so as soon as it comes into effect, be sure to check you Bimmer in for the necessary alterations to avoid unpleasant situations.

If you own an E70 BMW X5 with 8-cylinder engine which was produced between October 2006 and March 2010 you have to go to the nearest BMW Dealer because your BMW has issues with power brake failure.

Your E70 BMW X5 has a problematic vacuum hose and the brake power steering can fail because of that. You are prone to accident and we highly recommend to go as soon as possible at your nearest dealer as also I said above.

BMW is recalling more than 30,000 BMW X5 and will carry out all the costs and going to solve this unpleasant problem of your car.

Errare humanum est. It’s the simplest of excuses one would see from somebody making a mistake, be it a friend or a multinational company.

BMW is one of the latter and though they don’t have the attitude that quotes a bit of a cliche, but they did make a mistake on their E70 BMW X5.

Somewhere along the lines, a bunch of such SAVs were produced that may be subject to problems with their power steering systems.

The situation affects the E70 BMW X5 xDrive, but particularly the 35d version. That’s the 3.0 liter force fed diesel engine powered one.

In particular this flaw might be seen on model years ranging under the 2009 and 2012 model years. That’s a big time span and as a result, some 29.800 units in the US are affected by the problem.

As far as we’re able to understand, the root of the issue is the engine belt idler pulley bolt. After a while, this bolt might loosen and, possibly, break with time.

If the bolt becomes worn enough to loosen and break, it will lead to a loss of power steering. If that happens, the problem is quite obvious.

A heavier steering and uncertain moment at the wrong time could end up in leading the driver towards a crash. Despite this, the NHTSA isn’t yet involved in the recall.

BMW have announced that the recall itself will begin early next year and have set up a line for customers to check if their car is affected.

It is a flagship model and it rarely ever gets complaints since it’s built similarly to tanks except only using stronger materials.

A few years down the line however, the E65/E66 (previous generations) of the BMW 7 Series is called to quarters by the NHTSA.

The American authority seems to have caught the aging limo off guard due to something related to the soft closing doors mechanism.

Traditionally, this wonderful piece of luxury technology is supposed to do away with door slamming and unwanted noise at any point during the day.

In a few reports coming in from actual owners, it seems that none of these doors really want to lock themselves properly. Instead, they might open altogether.

It’s remarkable to see how the tides turn and there’s plenty of stuff to joke about when rich people lose their money. In all truth, this is a serious problem and BMW won’t hesitate to take responsibility.

As you’d expect from a car that’s built out of more computers than the typical call center the mechanics aren’t problematic.

Something from the software components of the whole thing is what’s to blame for this problem. Nevertheless, a recall will take place early next month.

Affected models of this problem are built between 2005 and 2007, ones in 745i, 750i and even 760i engine options regardless of the regular or long wheelbase versions.

Even though these models have long left their warranty periods, BMW will be forced to make the fix available to customers free of charge.

And here I am, the bearer of bad news. BMW have sent out a memo according to which its dealers will stop deliveries of certain F10 M5 and F12 M6 lots. Furthermore, owners of such cars are to stop driving them.

How uncool is that? Knowing BMW you’ll have to agree that they wouldn’t postpone such a thing for no reason at all so everybody take notice.

Some of the 2013 model year cars sold by BMW with the S63TU engine may have received an oil pump that’s not really up to scrap.

Should it develop a fault it could seriously starve your M Powered dream machine of oil, possibly causing some serious damage to the engine.

From that point on you’re risking some serious damage and I don’t know about you but I’d prefer that my 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 doesn’t need a rebuild with just a couple thousand miles on the clock.

BMW USA have allegedly already started contacting owners of the cars which may be affected by this problem and told them to refrain from driving until a fix is ready.

No timeline was issued, the NHTSA isn’t in on the business but given the high profile customers and expensive cars we’re talking about a rush is bound to happen.

Hold on tight you poor F10 M5 and F12 M6 (coupe and convertible both) owners, it won’t be long before you have your fun.

Oh and by the way, if you have one about to be delivered you should stop holding your breath since it’ll be put on hold until the oil pump gets a replacement.

We love it when good and great news comes from BMW but some times some less than good news sneaks through such as this occasion.

The current E70 BMW X5 and its less practical sister car E71 X6 are going to get recalled for a rather serious issue in the near future.

Both cars have some problems with the steering. It probably won’t fail as such but there’s a good chance of it ending up leaking fluids.

There may have been a problem during the manufacturing process and it seems that the aftermath of the issue could be quite burly.

Due to a machining error of the steering gear surface power steering fluids could leak onto the exhaust.

When that’s cold, there’s no potential problem but last we heard, exhausts are usually very hot and there’s a serious fire hazard that results from the equation.

As a result, by the middle of July 2012 some unlucky 2.642 BMW owners will have to make an unscheduled visit to their dealers.

The recall affects only the newest of models, 2012-2013 MY BMW X5 and X6s only, hence the relatively small number of cars that are to be recalled.

Once called in, the BMW mechanics will inspect the steering fixtures and make any necessary replacements to the faulty ones.

As always in such conditions, the BMW X5/X6 recall will cost owners no money and their only inconvenience will be the time spent in the service.

We all know how “expensive” time can be but I’d certainly spend one or two hours in a service than risk the chance of catching fire at one point.

Cheer and fun is all available everywhere in the BMW Group’s family but occasionally mistakes happen, even within our favorite brand.

The latest such unpleasant situation focuses on a shared component that’s to be found in most of the larger BMW products and the smallest Rolls Royce.

We’re looking at quite the batch of vehicles. It’s the 5 Series, 6 Series, 7 Series, X5, X6 and the Rolls Royce Ghost.

The link between these vehicles is their being powered by BMW’s turbocharged V12 or V8 engines. All of these units are 2012 models.

A total of 2.846 units the above listed models will be recalled. Of that considerable total there’s only a number of 60 Rolls Royce Ghost units to be concerned about.

The problem is to be found in the circuit boards in the cars’ electric auxiliary water pump. Ironically, there’s a risk of it overheating and eventually leading to an engine compartment fire.

Let’s face it, several expensive high end cars are exposed to burning out and really, it’s not a decent prospect. That’s where the NHTSA stepped in.

The recall is scheduled to begin at the end of this month and BMW’s dealers will be notifying the owners of these cars in a few days.

Apart from the inconvenience of losing some time with the process or having less availability with the affected car, the owners of these models won’t have any costs.

BMW will inspect all the circuit boards and make all the necessary replacements on any parts they might identify as being risky.
