MINI is thinking big right now, as the British carmaker is working on new and hot models, like the upcoming Clubman, the new-gen Countryman Crossover or other sports models that would revive the MINI Coupe and the Convertible. But MINI is also working on the new MINI Convertible and the real proof were the spy shots with the model revealed a couple of days ago.
We are talking about the convertible of the Hardtop model already on the market since last year, and such an arrival at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show, this September, will complete the model lineup as the 2016 year model, and today we have some fresh news with the model.
As expected, the 2016 MINI Convertible will not come with a lot of surprises in terms of exterior or interior features, the model sharing its body similarities with the hardtop sibling, while the interior will resemble that of the Mini Cooper S.
Amongst the worthy-mentioned features are the automatic folding soft top, the same round clusters with the central display, the instrument cluster with information about the driving capabilities, the MINI Controller dial next to the gear stick and more space inside, thanks the UKL platform that the model is underpinning.
Thanks to the UKL platform, in the engine department the 2016 MINI Convertible will adopt the 1.5-liter three-cylinder unit, developing 134 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque or the higher 2.0-liter four-cylinder, with 189 horsepower and 280 Nm of torque, the same one found on the Copper S. More news will be announced at a later date!
