BMW Full-Electric SUV Might Arrive by 2020, Would Take on Tesla Model X

Read Time:1 Minute, 24 Second

With the Tesla offering the Tesla Model X, the full-electric SUV that will be released in US dealerships in around four months and proved to be a real success, BMW has to make the right decisions in planning a flagship electric SUV to compete against the Model X or the Audi`s Q6 e-tron, setting its debut in a couple of years.

But a BMW full-electric SUV has not been yet approved by the carmaker, inside sources reporting to Automotive News Europe that the planning of such a model was just a speculation at that time. With all that, Harald Krueger, the CEO at BMW would agree with such a model.

In case it would arrive, the BMW electric SUV will complete the carmaker`s electric lineup, standing near the i3 full electric and the i8 plug-in hybrid, with the later also receiving a more powerful version in the shape of the i8 M hybrid.

More than that, according to a report from the German publication Wirtschaftswoche, the BMW electric SUV would be built at the carmaker`s Spartanburg plant, in South Carolina, US, and would make use of the company`s latest battery-powered drivetrain, which will differentiate it from the upcoming electric models that would feature the Power eDrive configuration, the one seen on the upcoming 2016 BMW X5 Plug-In Hybrid, pictured above.

It seems that the increase demand of electric vehicles has led to a real competition on the market and BMW has to cope with the heavy competition it has with the Tesla as well as Audi.
