At the CES event in Las Vegas, BMW presented, with the help of an iX model, a special paint that can change color at the touch of a button.

At the CES event in Las Vegas, BMW presented an innovative technology that allows the driver to change the color of the car with the push of a button. Although several car manufacturers, including BMW, have announced that they will not physically participate in this year’s edition of the event, a video has been posted on social media demonstrating the new technology.

In the video you can see how the white paint on a BMW iX gradually changes to a gray hue.

The new technology introduced by BMW is called iX Flow and allows the driver to change the color of the paint by pressing a button. The new color change concept is based on E Ink technology, which is also used on e-book tablets, such as the Amazon Kindle, for example.

In order to accomplish this color change process, BMW has glued an iX with a material containing millions of E Ink microcapsules.

Each capsule contains negatively charged white pigments and positively charged black pigments. With the help of an electric field, white or black pigments collect light from the surface of the microcapsules, which leads to a change in color.

BMW says that one of the advantages of the iX Flow is that it makes it easier to heat or cool the passenger compartment depending on the weather conditions. Thus, the white color helps to cool more easily during the summer, while the black paint can make the car’s heating process easier in the winter.

It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. Many times, carmakers unveil new and advanced technologies at CES, and some of them even become available on production cars.

As I said, BMW did not physically attend this year’s CES because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A few days ago, BMW published a teaser image with a 100% recyclable concept, made entirely of secondary materials or renewable raw materials. Its name is i Vision Circular and it is built on the architecture of Neue Klasse “according to the four principles of the circular economy: Re: Think, Re: Duce, Re: Use, Re: Cycle.”

The prototype announces a compact BMW for 2040 that can be admired at the stand of the Bavarian manufacturer at the Munich Motor Show.

The front has been much simplified, in terms of the number of pieces here. We have a grid interpreted as a digital surface, which incorporates the headlights, the brand logo and the car emblem are laser engraved to avoid the use of additional leather.

The windshield and the ceiling form a single piece, and the rims with thin spokes and the smoky-looking glass tailgate, which integrates the taillights, complete the package.

Inside, the dashboard and steering wheel were 3D printed, and the multimedia system display was moved to the base of the windshield.

The upholstery of the seats is made of recycled plastic and is fixed in an aluminum frame. The seats are supported on a base with one thin leg.

As I said, the BMW i Vision Circular remains, at least for now, at the concept stage.

It is quite annoying to initiate every electric car story with a mention of Tesla Model 3 or other New Tesla Models. But this is going to be vanished and conceptualized differently from now on. BMW is introducing an all-new concept of fully-electric BMW i4 which is a compact saloon, will come up with a superb range, productivity, as well as, elegancy and vibrant look, and gut-spinning acceleration.

The fully-electric BMW i4 concept vehicle is claimed to have BMW’s generation-5 electrical systems that are identical as will be used in electric versions of the X3 crossover. With these shreds of evidence and numbers, The BMW concept i4 beats the Tesla Model 3 in various prospects except the top speed. The i4 Concept beats Tesla Model 3 concerning range and prospects of reaching 0-62 mph in 4 seconds as compared to 5.3 seconds for Tesla Model 3.

Without a doubt, the future has been an interesting problem for all of us. As most of the ideas regarding our future become reality, our attention turns to the improvement of those ideas. Such is the case of BMW’s autonomous car concept. While the main point of such a vehicle is to function without a driver, the Bavarian manufacturer is convinced that creating such a vehicle without the necessary accessories to also allow full control of the vehicle if need be is a great mistake.

This is definitely an idea that needs to be debated. While most people would probably feel safer if they had an alternative to control the car themselves, could the same safety net prove to be a major flaw in the safety of the car? What if somebody touches the controls by accident and creates a dangerous situation for the passengers? Regardless, BMW is sure that all autonomous vehicles should sport a control override mechanism. As far as their future plans go, all autonomous BMW cars will include a steering wheel and control pedals.

At this point the question is if there are major differences between autonomous cars that will include an override mechanism and those that will not. While the best experiment in such a situation would be to wait, see and compare two models that fit the description, in theory the autonomous vehicles that will include an override mechanism will probably prove to be superior, in regards to safety, to those that will not. No matter how you look at it, BMW has brought to light an important issue in the development of autonomous vehicles. While a general answer is yet to be provided, BMW has already made up its mind in regards to the general safety provided by autonomous vehicles.

Without a doubt, the future in which autonomous cars will roam the streets of all roads in the world is not far. Having this in thought, it is important for us to ask the right questions in regards to how the development of the autonomous technology should take place. BMW seems to have done so and has already discovered some answers regarding the safety such a vehicle should provide by default. All that remains for us is to wait and see how all these findings will affect the future development of autonomous cars.

Following its official preview last week, the BMW M8 Gran Coupe concept has finally made its way to the 2018 Geneva Motor Show with an astonishing design language and the company`s latest technologies.

The concept previews the future M8 Gran Coupe which will become the direct competitor of the new Mercedes-AMG GT. As the carmakers stated, the ‘M’ badge stands for “more”, offering “a look ahead to the most exotic and alluring variant of the new BMW 8-Series.”

Once it will arrive on the market next year, the future M8 Gran Coupe will join the high-end 8-Series in a quest to become the most technologized coupes in the entire auto industry. And while we`re at it, Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW Vice President, has also stated:

“The BMW 8 Series will take over as the new flagship model of the BMW line-up and, as such, combines unsurpassed sportiness and elegance. The BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe offers a look ahead to the most exotic and alluring variant of the new BMW 8 Series.”

The design language of the BMW M8 Gran Coupe concept is extremely muscular and aggressive, dynamic and aerodynamically advanced. Domagoj Dukec, BMW M and BMW i Vice President of design, mentioned that:

“The BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe is designed to stir things up, to polarise – it should move you emotionally. With this car we want to reach people who are looking for something special and who want to stand out from the crowd. Here, BMW M is unmistakably taking luxury out of its comfort zone”

We are dealing here with a long wheelbase and long bonnet, flowing roofline, aggressive winglets and intakes, while the portruding kidney grilles enhance the model`s stance.

The concept also features a carbon fiber roof, tapered shoulders, traditional four-eyed headlight design and thin LED taillights, rear bumper with large vertical vents and integrated diffuser. The rear end also comes with quad-outlet exhausts that make the concept stand out.

As for performance, there aren`t any details released so far, but from what we already know, the M8 Gran Coupe might feature a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, the same found underneath the new M5. Probably one of the most interesting vehicles shown at the LA Auto Show this year is the BMW X7 iPerformance Concept. While it undoubtedly has that BMW personality we’ve been used to with all of the Bavarian automaker’s models, the X7 is one of the few attempts at introducing some new ideas to the already quite know formula.

One of the most talked about features of the BMW X7 iPerformance Concept regards the vehicle’s iconic kidney grilles, a feature that has BMW fans divided in those who favor and those who dislike the way this particular feature has been implemented in the X7 design. The main problem signaled by those that have criticized the design of the kidney grilles revolves around their exaggerated size. The front side of the car is dominated by the grille’s presence.

Aside from this aspect, the design of the BMW X7 iPerformance Concept is refreshing, sophisticated and futuristic. The integration of LED lighting systems was a must. The design lines of the car give it an aggressive look. The most interesting part of this particular concept model is represented by the size and shape of the front and rear lights. They are small in size and sharp looking. They fit perfectly with the design particularities of the BMW X7 iPerformance Concept.

On the performance side, the BMW X7 iPerformance has been rumored to include a 4.4 liter bi-turbo V8 amongst its options. This particular engine will be capable of outputting 445HP, which is more than enough for any speed freak out there looking to get an adrenaline rush. The performance seems to be on par with the exterior look of the car. This particular BMW future model has attracted quite a lot of attention.

Overall the BMW X7 iPerformance Concept looks like a promising addition to the BMW SUV fleet. Provided that minor changes are authorized, especially regarding the front side of the vehicle, the X7 iPerformance will be situated, without a doubt, on the road towards glory. All that remains to be seen is the look and feel of the official BMW X7 that will eventually hit production. Until then we can only speculate in regards to the future of the newest addition to the BMW SUV fleet. Even in the current form, the BMW X7 iPerformance Concept is a vehicle that most BMW fans would dream about having in their collection.

BMW stays faithful to its promises and recently declared that the all-new MINI Electric Concept, announced a couple of months ago, would march side-by-side with other exquisite models within the Group, at the upcoming 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, starting next month.

Offering a “thrilling preview of the all-new electric production vehicle,” the new MINI Electric concept is going to be a highly appreciated city car, delighting its customers with a “window into how pure-electric day-to-day mobility might look in the years ahead.”

Taking a closer look at the media gallery released by MINI, the model is going to be high-tech and futuristic from a visual standpoint and not only, adopting a racing attitude with the new “simulated air intakes” for the sport front bumper, new grille with flanked LED headlights, flush-mounted door handles or fiberglass side skirts.

At the rear, the sporty looks is complemented by the tailgate-mounted spoiler and fiberglass diffuser, adding as well the custom LED taillights with Union Jack accents. Let`s not forget of course the massive 19-inch alloy wheels which increase the concept`s aggressive attitude.

We would have appreciated some details concerning the powertrain as well, but for the moment, MINI wouldn’t comment on that. However, recent reports mentioned something about an extremely powerful electric motor, with an impressive sprint and high-performance characteristics.

Even if BMW is the most important automaker in the world with the biggest sales over the past years, the German carmaker doesn’t rest on its laurels and plans to take over the technological segment as well, by developing more fuel cell vehicles and enhance the autonomous driving system.

The carmaker`s plans on such directions were revealed by Harald Krueger, CEO at BMW, who has declared in a recent interview with Automotive News that the entire stuff is working on the development of the fuel cell cars, emphasizing the fruitful collaboration it has had so far and will have in the future with another leading company in the technology segment, Toyota.

Speaking of which, Krueger has also declared that “With Toyota, we are working on a new generation of fuel cell vehicles. Last year, we put on the road a small test fleet based on the 5-series Gran Turismo. In 2021, we plan a small series of the next step in fuel cell technology.”

As for developing the ultimate autonomous technologies that would make their cars safer on the roads, Krueger has also pointed out the importance of a viable partnership with other two major players in the connectivity segment – Intel and Mobileye.

He further said: “We are not the best in making radars and vision controls, so we work with Mobileye. We do not make chips, so we cooperate with Intel. We have just taken on board Delphi to cooperate on software and system knowledge.”

There are often times when we literally forget paying our respects to long-forgotten and iconic models that stand at the very basis of what we have today in the auto industry, and has inspired others to become better and better every day.

Such an iconic built that used to make our delight back in the 1970s is the one-and-only E25 BMW Turbo, built in just two models and destined for the 1972 Olympics. The model was recently highlighted by Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design.

At that time, such an extraordinary concept was out of its time, the 1972 BMW Turbo coming with an exceptionally-advanced and futuristic design and highlighted by the state-of-the-art aerodynamics and safety features.

A real inspiration for the development of other high-tech models of the 70s, the E25 Turbo came out with lots of gadgetries, like radar system which warned drivers of the tight curbs ahead, futuristic cabin, front and rear section filled with foam to absorb impact, and much more, which were considered at that time out of the ordinary and Sci-Fi.

As aforementioned, it later became a real inspiration for other BMW models, like the already iconic M1, with the design language also inspiring the future 8-Series. Overall, it was an amazing concept built to last, like all BMW models.

Under the hood, the E25 BMW Turbo Concept packed a massive turbocharged with 276 horsepower achieved at a mind-blowing 7,100 rpm. This would also allow a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds, at a top speed of 250 km/h.
