It is not the first time that BMW partners Toyota to create unique and new sports cars that would benefit the latest technology, in order to cope with other beasts on the market, such as the Porsche 911.One version from Toyota would be the successor of the Supra, while the other one would be the future BMW Z5.

And according to Motoring online magazine, the joint venture is planning to introduce two new sports cars, built from aluminum and a carbon fiber reinforced plastic body parts.

This means that both cars will be lighter and more performance, but also measuring less than 4.5 mm long and around 1.84 wide, which is pretty much the size of the Porsche 911. The design will wear the signature of Toyota, while under the hood, BMW will come up with impressive engines.

Talking about powertrains, both cars would come with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, as well as a 3.0-liter turbo six-cylinder, which would output around 335 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. Later on, the joint venture would also release a plug-in hybrid version, which would churn out 470 horsepower.

So far, the details are rather scarce, but we will be able to find out more next year, when the two cars would make their worldwide debut.

BMW and Toyota are now partnering to develop a hybrid sports car that will replace the Z4 and the Supra. We are talking about a mixed of technology closely brought together.

Some sources within the BMW state that the new hybrid sports car in question will be different than the one of the Z4 replacement and the successor of the Supra.

The new model will actually sport a front-engine along with a four-wheel drive unit which will be mated to a petrol engine and electric motors.

The partnership will come in handy for Toyota to develop a high-tech super-capacitor touting hybrid system to enhance a performance boost and a short-term kinetic energy storage.

The super-capacitor technology can absorb and discharge the energy faster than the latest lithium-ion battery, being lighter and smaller than the current energy storage sources.

To rest assure, the BMW German luxury manufacturer will provide the necessary petrol burner, without exceeding the capacity of 2 liters.

The power will be send to the wheels with the help of a sequential manual transmission.

By now, we have a lot of information about the joint project between BMW and Toyota, unfortunately not much has been officially confirmed.

Still, plenty rumors can be regarded as valid depending on the source. One such rumor indicates that the two companies will be bringing supercapacitors into play.

From the get go, it was clear why the German would extend their arm and collaborate with Toyota. While BMW now has a couple of electric vehicles, they are still new to this kind of motivation, unlike Toyota, who have dabbled with electricity for a while now.

Thus, the supercar resulting from the union of the two giants will be sporting a hybrid drivetrain comprised of a BMW sourced combustion engine and a Toyota electric motor. Toyota will also be providing the supercapacitors, an alternative to conventional battery packs. Not only do they weigh less than battery, a big problem with electric and hybrid cars, but they also provide a faster delivery of the power.

It’s been so long since BMW and Toyota announced their plans to joint develop a sports car, that you would have expected at least a teaser from them.

A recent report states that basic proportions and specs have been established, and the car is quickly moving forward towards a 2017 launch.

Engine-wise, no official word leaked from either companies, but educated guesses say three engines will be provided. These are the 2.0 liter four cylinder engine good for 218 Hp, the 3.0 liter six cylinder that outputs 320 Hp and a 3.0 liter twin turbo charged six cylinder that gets close to 400 Hp.

The joint venture will yield not one, but two vehicles, with both companies taking advantage of the other’s expertise in order to improve on the design. The BMW that will come out of this is estimated to cost somewhere around €40.000, while the Toyota version will be around the €35.000 mark.

BMW`s rival, Toyota has recently partnered with the German based automaker to equip the future Verso model with a diesel engine.

Even if the two automakers are rivals, collaboration between competitors are common when it comes to buy something from another, in order to be successful.

And Toyota really needs the diesel engine from BMW right now to help its Verso model being re-launched into the market for higher sales.

BMW will equip the Verso with a fresh new 1.6 D-4D diesel unit, which is supposed to help the Japanese manufacturer sell around 25,000 Verso unit per year.

Toyota is being manufacturing its Verso minivan in Turkey, providing two engine versions for the model, namely a 2.0-liter and 2.2-liter diesel engines, but with the increase demand for smaller diesels, BMW will equip the vehicle with its 1.6 D-4D unit.

The future partnership between Toyota and BMW does not concern the engine alone, as the two joint-venture are planning to develop a fuel cell system, research lithium air batteries, and also work on the next generation of lightweight body technology.

Perhaps the two automakers will be sharing a future supercar in the future.

It’s been a while now since the fact that BMW is working with Toyota has stopped being news, and after all this time, the results of this collaboration are still rather vague.

But today, an important bit of information has been uploaded, concerning a future BMW model.

Set to follow the current Z4, the new car will use the name Z3, but it will be lighter thanks to the use of lightweight materials. Speaking of which, it seems that everywhere we turn our heads, we hear more and more of the Bavarian car maker’s models will be using their already famous CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastic). This can only mean that the much coveted material truly is becoming cost effective.

Moving on with the new Z3 model, the general idea of the styling will revolve around the BMW Vision Connected Drive concept, a rumor that has circulated for a bit. The configuration for the BMW Z3 will be as a front engine, rear wheel drive car, sporting a folding hard top. While BMW will be selling a roadster, Toyota will be making a coupe version, although we are not exactly sure how that will work.

For a while now, we have been hearing about a nice little project the Bavarian manufacturer has been working on in joint venture with Toyota.

Now, we have another tidbit of info regarding the vehicle.

It seems that while the effort of BMW is quite substantial, the car will actually be a successor for the Lexus LFA model. The source of this bit seems to have inside information about the choice for the car: a two door vehicle with a hybrid power source.

The hybrid solution comes from Toyota, as they have been perfecting the system for quite some time now, but rumors also say that BMW will pitch in with a nice 4.4 liter V8. While the chassis has not been chosen yet, as far as we know, chances are that BMW will also provide this piece, as they hit it big with the CFRP body on the i3.

More information is sure to emerge in time, as development advances, but we’ll just have to be patient.

More news have arrived to the internet, shedding light on the subject. It seems that BMW sought some expertise on hybrid technology, and who better to go to than Toyota? While the German car maker did enter the electric car playpen, they are quite new, and for a sportscar, tested tech is just better.

We also have a name for the new model, and it is the Z5. Rumors already say this is a replacement for the BMW Z4, and they might just be true. While the Japanese side of the partnership will be handling the hybrid part of the car, the Germans will be in charge of pretty much everything else, and the styling will supposedly draw inspiration from the BMW Vision Connected Drive Concept.

It has been a while since BMW announced a collaboration with Toyota in order to build a sports car.

And while rumors about said model have been wildly speculative, now we have some concrete news about what the joint venture will produce.

A BMW official stated that currently they are working on 4 to 6 model proposals, and while the final form was not agreed upon, chances are “it could be a mid-engined supercar or a traditional front-engined sports car. We don’t know yet.”

Another reveal says that from this collaboration not just one, but two final products will emerge, and we are assured that they will be 100% BMW. Thing is, most agree that the same goal could have been achieved without outside help, and the major fears are that the traditional BMW spirit will be diluted in these two new models.

So the question still remains: what does Toyota have and BMW is lacking that would account for the partnership? With more details sure to arrive, we will have our answer eventually.

After Forbes magazine proclaimed BMW the most powerful car maker, BrandZ top 100 comes and says that this year BMW lost the title to the Japanese manufacturer, Toyota.

The market research that yielded these results was conducted by Millward Brown, and the difference between the two brand is not that big.

With a 12 percent increase, Toyota now stands at 24.5 billion USD value, while BMW stands at 24 billion USD, seeing a 2 percent decrease. While Toyota has been number one from year 2006 and up to 2009, and then again in 2011, BMW provided plenty of competition, stealing the title in 2010 and 2012.

The market research attributed Toyota’s success on the fact that they were a big player in the electric vehicles market. Meanwhile, the reason why BMW lost the title was because the German car maker didn’t introduce new models on the market.

But next year, BMW plans a lot of new surprises like the highly anticipated BMW i3, which will not only be a completely new vehicle, it will represent a competitive player on the EV market. Time will tell if BMW will get back the title they won from the Japanese.
