In the United States, the fight in the more growing popularity mid-size crossover segment is between three major manufacturers – BMW, Audi and Land Rover – each one offering extremely practical and appreciated SUVs.

A recent comparison test between BMW`s X1, Audi`s Q3 and the Range Rover`s Evoque is meant to shed some light on which is the one that Americans are crazy about, especially from visual and interior perspectives. Well, more or less, this becomes more of a personal matter.

According to bmwblog auto magazine, which had the chance of testing out each of the above models, all three midsize crossovers offer the best driving capabilities, thanks to their advanced aerodynamics, the latest technology on-board and safety features. But in the end, there was one particular model that has won the test, and that would be the gorgeous BMW X1. Well, I shouldn’t have spoiled all the fun, but I guess my excitement was way too high.

Starting with the second place, this is taken by Audi Q3, the hot model being highlighted by the plethora of technology and evolutionary design it comes with. However, according to the magazine, it lacks space and practicality and isn’t as fun to drive as the X1 or Evoque.

On the other hand, the Range Rover Evoque, even if it may be extremely appealing at the outside, it still looks extremely rugged and way too slow when it comes to tackling tight corners, for instance. It is also heavy and provide less stability, while the interior comes with less practicality, less even than the Audi Q3.

And that leads us with the BMW X1 leading the way, the model allowing the widest space inside, boasts with technology and handles extremely well in different road conditions. Not to mention that it is also fun to drive and offers the best experience behind the wheel.

Still relatively smaller compared to its bigger brother from the X lineup, the all-new 2017 X1 is still impressive enough to carry out all the daily tasks required to make a four-member family happy. Recently, the gorgeous model was reviewed by carwow auto magazine, with the entire opinions being highlighted in the video below.

From what I stand, I personally prefer an X1 to an X5 or X6, and that because of the car`s exquisite design that makes it perfect for city commuting. Not to mention the plenty of space it has to offer inside or large boot with flat loading surface.

Besides the comfortable interior and plenty of cargo compartments, the interior is also considered one of the best in its class, which is a clear indication that the 2017 BMW X1 SUV is worth spending money on. And here comes the good part.

Underneath, the 2017 BMW X1 is making use of a 2.0-liter xDrive18d diesel, with 150 horsepower, adding as well the more agile xDrive25d with 230 horsepower, which is the very own seen here tested out by Mat Watson. The latter one comes with an impressive 6.6-second run from 0 to 100 km/h.

Car and Driver auto magazine has put together in a premiere the 2017 10Best Truck and SUV event, with the Subcompact Luxury SUV category being awarded to the one-and-only 2016 BMW X1. The ceremony will take place at the 2017 North American International Auto Show, in Detroit, next month.

There are several important features that 2016 BMW X1 is coming with and that would be its exquisite exterior, highly-tech interior and high-performance powertrain under the hood.

Besides the evolutionary and distinguishable design which is a BMW characteristics, the all-new BMW X1 comes with a lot of high-end features at the interior.

The most important ones refer to the high-resolution 6.5-inch or optional 8.8-inch freestanding display for the iDrive`s Control Display, adding power front seats with driver-side memory, Anthracite headliner, storage package, sport leather steering wheel and more.

In terms of high-tech gadgetry, the new 2016 BMW X1 features 6.5-inch infotainment system with USB and Bluetooth and Smarphone integration, 360-watt Harman Kardon Hi-Fi system, adding the latest safety features – Adaptive Cruise Control, Active Driving Assistant with forward collision warning with automatic braking system and much more.

In the engine department, the all-new X1 comes with a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo flat-four engine, with 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. In the United States, the model costs at least $33,100.

BMW`s X fleet is fast changing, with a lot of small models to become bigger and those bigger to become even bigger, like the upcoming BMW X7, which would be the cream of the crop.

BMW is also planning to release a future X2 SUV, a kind of X1 with again…bigger scales. In fact, the future BMW X2, slotted for 2017, is indeed based on the present X1 and will underpin the company`s new UKL architecture, the same one found on other BMW models MINIs.

This means that the BMW X2 will come with a front-wheel drive – a custom thing now for BMW models – and an optional all-wheel drive.

Design wise, the BMW X2 will borrow the X1`s current body styling, adding though new and more aggressive cues, expecting a sweeping roofline and tucked rear end as well. The cabin will also make room for plenty of cargo space, along with the latest technology onboard.

Under the hood, the all-new BMW X2 will be powered by a wide choice of engines, with three- and four-cylinder configurations. We should mention the 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine or the higher 2.0-liter diesel petrol expected to become the top of the line from the diesel. Also, all versions will come with a choice of six-speed manual gearbox and the Aisin-sourced eight-speed automatic, both equipping the Euro-spec models. The latter gearbox will also come as standard on other versions, especially in the US.

We are definitely going to hear more about the BMW X2 in the next period before its official unveiling, perhaps at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.

BMW has recently unveiled the smaller xDrive25Le iPerformance version from the X1 lineup, the model getting its official round of applause at the China`s Chengdu Motor Sport. The SUV will be built and sold for the moment in China alone, with plans to include Australia and other markets in the near future.

The BMW X1 xDrive25Le iPerformance is the first plug-in hybrid within the X1 lineup, the model focusing on fuel-economy and low Co2 emissions.

Also, thanks to the small hybrid powertrain, the small SUV comes with plenty of cargo space inside, meaning a capacity of 505 L with the rear seat being up and a full 1550 L with them being folded down.

It uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine with 100 kW and 220 Nm of torque being sent to the front wheels. The conventional engine works closely with an electric motor, allowing an additional of 70 kW and 165 Nm of torque, being sent to the rear axle.

With all the power all together and an all-wheel drive layout, the BMW X1 xDrive25Le iPerformance is capable of running the whole straight line in a good 7.4 seconds. As aforementioned, the SUV`s main attribute is the fuel consumption.

Thus, the BMW X1 xDrive25Le iPerformance, thanks to a 10.7 kW lithium ion-battery, the X1 comes with an incredible 1.8L for each 100 km, along with a range of 60 km, at a topping of 120 km/h.

The model can be charged using a 220/16A socket which allows an 80 percent charge in 2.9 hours, or a full charge in 3.7 seconds.

We all used to watching Top Gear show, that particular show that everyone loved it or hated it. I personally found it extremely realistic, with all three stars of the show revealing the true identity of each car they would test out.

One of the hosts, Jeremy Clarkson was the funny guy, the laugh about guy, with a lot of ironic jokes meant to portrait the car`s he would test drive.

Also, he became famous for his crazy ideas, like creating a list of 10 “Star Cars”, with the most exquisite models to receive a star for its body styling, interior and performance characteristics. And one of the BMWs to receive a start was the gorgeous M2 Coupe.

On the other side, he also came out with a “Stinker” list designated to appoint all models that he would find…a “stinker”, and that based on the car`s looks and personality. And one of those stinkers was the present BMW X1.

He found the sec-gen BMW X1 extremely ugly, with no practicality and no personality whatsoever. More than that, the present X1 wasn’t on his favorite list as well, as it lacks self-esteem and comes with common body features also found on other models within the BMW Group.

He also hates the 2.0-liter diesel engine found under the hood, stating that the TwinPower 2-liter diesel that he drove “didn’t feel speedy”.

Also, he didn’t feel that the SUV was a genuine German car, feeling like bits of the car were made in other countries, just like Mercedes-Benz or Audi would do.

“My test car was fitted with four-wheel drive, so you might think it’d have been able to deal with a bit of muddy ground. Nope. On a short piece of level grass it was skidding about all over the place,” he also added.

The 2016 Beijing Auto Show has opened its gates today, with carmakers worldwide launching their stretched models, specifically aimed for the Chinese market.

We are expecting to see the latest China-based editions from Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and of course BMW. The latter one BMW, has also brought the X1 Long Wheelbase SUV for an official display.

The BMW X1 Long Wheelbase will be available in China in two versions, the Long Wheelbase xLine and Sport Line, each one coming with a wide choice of features.

As we can depict from the pictures, the X1 Long Wheelbase comes with LED headlights display, automatic tailgate operation and other styling cues shared with its European sibling.

Inside, the cabin is equipped with the latest high-tech gizmos, like head-up display, updated infotainment system, Harman Kardon surround sound system, adding the plethora of safety features.

The BMW X1 LWB looks the same as the standard version, except for the elongated rear doors. This makes it 8 cm longer, 2 cm wider and 4 cm taller than the previous long-wheelbase X1. A stretched platform also indicates more space inside, around 5-18 cm more room for rear passenger knees. The cargo capacity has been also expanded to 675 liters with the rear seats in the normal position, reaching an overall of 1,650 liters with a 40:20:40-split folded rear bench.

Under the hood, the BMW X1 LWB packs three engines, like the three-cylinder 136 HP in the sDrive18Li, four-cylinder 192 HP in the sDrive20Li/xDrive20Li as well as the four-cylinder 231 HP in the xDrive25Li. All engines are hooked to a six-speed Steptronic or eight-speed Steptronic, the latter one available for the larger displacements.

BMW is on a full throttle with its model lineup, preparing some goodies for the upcoming period. The BMW M5 is on full tests, while the X7 is getting ready for an official unveiling soon enough. The X1 plug-in hybrid hasn’t been left out and has been also sent for some tests out in the cold.

BMW is planning to introduce the X1 plug-in hybrid at the end of the year, the model sporting rather the same design and characteristics, but adds a charging port on the driver`s side front fenders.

The BMW X1 plug-in hybrid will add however slight mods like special badging, while inside, the cabin will feature the custom displays for a plug-in hybrid.

Under the hood, the BMW X1 plug-in hybrid will use a conventional 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder mill hooked to an electric motor via a 7.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

As already known, the conventional engine will send the power to the front wheels, with the electric motor will power the rear axle. This means that the model can use the front wheels, the rear wheels or all together in any given circumstances.

We are not sure how powerful the plug-in hybrid will be, but according to rumors, it would output around 224 horsepower and 284 lb-ft of torque. More details will be announced at a later date.

The all-new 2016 BMW X1 has been recently the star of a photo session carried out in Spain, the small SUV being highlighted by the photographers from Motor.es.

As we can depict from the pictures, the 2016 BMW X1 is looking extremely appealing and more menacing, the model being significantly bigger than the previous generation.

The 2016 BMW X1 is also standing on the company`s new UKL platform, the same used on the 2-Series Active Tourer, which basically means a front-wheel drive configuration, letting room for more powerful and higher-performance engines.

The new 2016 X1 also comes with an increased cargo capacity of 85 liters, for a total of 505 liters, but with the rear seats being folded down, the overall space stands at an impressive 1,550 liters. The space inside is also improved, dealing here with 37 millimeters more for the rear knees.

In terms of performance, the 2016 BMW X1 features wide array of engines, starting with the newly introduced 1.5-liter three- and 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinders.

The 2016 BMW X1 may not be regarded as one of the most potent SUVs from the entire BMW lineup, but it still comes with a lot of features that makes it the best family car for your daily commuting and outdoors activities.

BMW UK has recently launched a video with the 2016 BMW X1, trying to showcase the special qualities that the entry-level SUV is coming with in terms of design, space inside and technological goodies, or of the high-performance engines that make it an extraordinary vehicle.

And from my point of view, the 2016 BMW X1 is coming perhaps with the best quality-price ratio, compared to its direct competitors, the Audi Q3 or the Mercedes-Benz GLA, which are way more expensive and rather sporting the same features.

The video incites us with a simple yet incisive message: “feel free to think that you can do pretty much anything with this car, and go pretty much anywhere.” And indeed, for the money you will pay, this SUV is more than just a simple SUV.

Practicality is the main attribute that can describe the interior of the 2016 BMW X1, the cabin boasting with plenty of space for passengers and back storage spaces for luggage, along with the plethora of high-end materials and safety systems.

A generous cabin and an exquisite design language go hand in hand with the powertrain lineup under the hood, the 2016 BMW X1 proving a really powerful SUV, in almost any circumstances. We are dealing here with a 2.0-liter petrol engine with two power configurations, like 192 horsepower and 280 Nm of torque, respectively 231 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque.

The diesel comes with the same 2.0-liter mill, with three configurations: 150 horsepower and 330 Nm of torque, 190 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, as well as 231 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. All are hooked to a six-speed manual as well as the new eight-speed automatic transmissions, sending the power to the front or to all corners.
