Here’s a fresh one, BMW is recalling one of their most exclusive cars due to some issues with its steering. The same thing applies to the Z4 sports car.

The first of the cars is the electric version of the BMW 1 Series, a little city runabout known as the ActiveE. Believe it or not, the two cars have something in common.

This is, of course, the electrically assisted power-steering device. The problem isn’t directly linked to them but to the way they’re fed electricity.

It seems that there may be some power losses along the way to them and thus, either of the BMW models could suffer from loss of power assistance.

You don’t have to be a brain surgeon to figure out the sort of issues with car control that could lead to or why the NHTSA got in on the problem.

With the issuing of this recall, BMW are getting a first such situation for the ActiveE model which is a few feet short of an experimental prototype.

The Z4, in its previous iterations may have seen a few other problems in its lifetime but rest assured nobody is comfortable with this idea.

Thankfully, a very small number of vehicles can be affected by the steering problems. This is because the Active E was built in very limited numbers.

Also, since only a small lot of the 2012 BMW Z4 has been involved, the total number of cars that will have to go in for a visit with their dealers is no more than 162.

It’s the BMW ActiveE and it’s now been around for enough time to allow people to form opinions.

Actually, the whole point of this exercise is to raise awareness on how the BMW ActiveE electric car is in terms of getting along with.

As you’d imagine with a set of video testimonials about a product of a company that was released by the same company that makes it isn’t full of complaints.

The praise goes on and on, but it’s not in that relentless and easy to disprove way that adverts can be made in. The customers genuinely seem happy with the product.

It’s not often that you hear some performance praise about a small BMW, particularly if all the power it produces is 170 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.

The top speed of around 90 mph isn’t that impressive either but under commuting situations that’s just fine.

Also, knowing that you have a limited range of around 100 miles will probably keep you from going too fast anyway.

That said, when you do feel the need for some extra grunt, the superb power delivery of instant torque from the electric engine does make it feel faster than it is.

BMW’s ActiveE program has now been in existence for more than half an year now as the cars have been getting to customers since fall of 2011.

Like it or not, electric is still grabbing considerable headlines, so this bit of news about the BMW Active E has climbed to the top of today’s list.

The Bavarians tell us they’ve managed to deliver the first ever BMW Active E to a U.S. customer. The customer in question is the Moloughney family.

Tom and Meredith Moloughney are on BMW’s special list, this has been so ever since 2009 and all through the trials of the Mini E.

BMW named the Moloughneys the first ActiveE Electronauts and upon delivery of the brand new electric 1 Series we’re talking about marketing went over the top.

Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO of BMW of North America even went as far as to call the U.S. couple pioneers. Now, it’s nice to see early adoption be rewarded and worked with but there are some limits.

Speaking of limits, the BMW ActiveE still has them and, just like any other electric model, they are inferior to traditionally powered cars.

Even with that considered, there’s still plenty of plus points to consider on your daily commute. 170 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque are available from the electric motor and the range is still pretty impressive.

Some 100 miles can be traveled between trips to the plug and the performance is pretty much right on the money for what you’d expect in a town car.

The Moloughney family will be getting the BMW ActiveE as part of a two year lease and will eventually go on to buy a BMW i3.

Together with the new BMW Vision ConnectedDrive concept and the new Design Pure Balance package designed for the current generation Z4, BMW also unveiled the well-known ActiveE, an electric model based on the current 1 Series Coupe.

BMW is planning to start the orders for ActiveE EV in the coming months but unfortunately they will build around 1,000 vehicles following to be available on few big markets.

However, under the hood of the upcoming ActiveE we’ll find an electric engine that develops 170 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque, enough resources to provide a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in around 9 seconds and a top speed of 145 km/h.

The 32 kWh lithium-ion battery pack which fits the new electric model will offer a driving range of 160 kilometers, just five hours being necessary to completely charge the battery. The aesthetics couldn’t be ignored by the Bavarians, thus, the model gets inside some nice features such as Alpine White trim, the new eDrive system and Dakota leather upholstery.

Outside, a special design with few graphics tell you that you are in front of an electric model, a set of 16-inch alloy wheels completing the exterior appearance.

It’s only been about three weeks since we’ve had confirmation of the first BMW series-production of an electric-vehicle coming to the market with the launch of the Megacity Vehicle, scheduled for 2013.

Back then, BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer stated that this BMW will move the bar and set a new industry tone as the Megacity Vehicle will be significantly lighter than conventional cars and, in terms of sustainability, will set a new standard across the entire value-added chain.

Since these claims still stand, here are some new ones. The BMW Megacity will be a full five seater vehicle sized about the same as a Golf with an unusual layout for a BMW, an electric car or pretty much most cars in general. The Megacity will be rear engined and rear wheel drive.

According to BMW the Megacity will be a revolution for electric vehicles and it will also have some of the company’s mainstream touches. The new electric car is set to have a range of 160 miles per charge but no mention on the charging time has been done.

The BMW Megacity will share most of the drivetrain with the BMW ActiveE concept.

I guess that at this time, the BMW ActiveE Concept became something like a star but you should know that it deserves this whole because this BMW ActiveE Concept is awesome but better said, the idea is so awesome because at the design, it is just a BMW 1 Series Coupe a little bit modified.

The most important details about this BMW ActiveE Concept are that it comes with a full electric system (this is the most important fact I guess) and also that it can develop up to 170 horsepower and a maximum torque of 184 pound-feet.

I also know that BMW promised that they will make this BMW ActiveE Concept to accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in less than 9 seconds, unfortunately there is nowhere an exactly number for this. Anyway, as we said in other posts, BMW ActiveE Concept was going to be present at the Detroit Auto Show so now you can see the photos with it from there.

I think this is great news even if the revealing of this car happened with few time ago. Maybe like this BMW ActiveE Concept will become reality and if they rush the things so much, it may happen in the appropriate future which is very great but this is just how I think.

More exactly, the premier will happen Monday January 11 next year but better said next month or even much better said, this month because there are few days left from this month. If you still don’t know, BMW ActiveE Concept is a very cool car based on the BMW 1 Series and it is a full electric car which makes it so special.

This car has the advantage of looking very cool as you can see with those blue lights and also stickers with the awesome look of the BMW 1 Series and also that it is a full electric vehicle. Stay tuned to find out what other car is going to be released on 11 January.

This is a very intelligent concept and when I read few details and also viewed the photos, I wondered why they didn’t put this car into the ActiveHybrid “family” but at the same time I could find 2 answers: 1 – because this is a full electric car; 2 – because at the moment this car remains a concept while the two ActiveHybrids will be available on the international market.

If you didn’t realize yet what is the base car of this concept but you should if you are a real BMW fan, this BMW activeE Concept have been built on a BMW 1 Series.

You may think that if it is a full electric car it can’t develop big powers but I tell you that you’re very wrong: it can develop up to 170 horsepower and a maximum torque of 184 lb-ft. It can also accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 8.5 seconds with a top speed of 90 mph.
