With winter closing in, BMW carmaker has sent some of the upcoming models for one final round of testing on the Ring. One of them is the top of the line from the 1-Series, the M140i, which is set to debut next year. The model can be seen hard-running on the spy video below.

The big surprise is that it will come with a front-wheel drive in a premiere, as it will stand on the company`s new UKL2 platform, also seen on the new Mini latest models, or the present X1 and 2-Series Active Tourer. The new 2019 BMW M140i is also reported to benefit from an optional all-wheel drive configuration.

Once it will emerge on the market in the second quarter of 2018, the 2019 BMW M140i will compete against the likes of the already announced Mercedes-AMG A 45, also a front-drive based all-wheel model.

The new M140i will feature an “east-west” mounted engine, ditching thus the current inline six-cylinder engine in favour of a flat-four pot. Its rival also uses a flat-four configuration.

In that regard, the M140i might borrow the B48 2.0-liter turbo from the 230i and 125i; however, it will output more power. How much? Given the 185 kW and 350 Nm of torque in the 230i, we expect at least 200 kW and 400 Nm of torque. This would also be more than the M140i`s current 250 kW, squeezed from a 3.0-liter turbo engine.

As aforementioned, the new UKL2 platform also allows the fitting of an xDrive all-wheel drive, so the arrival of such a high-end variant would be more than welcomed.

This would eventually translate into more power and high-performance figures. But until we get to see it officially emerged, let`s take a closer look at the spy video with the all-new 2019 BMW M140i performing final testing on the Ring. Do you think it still keeps the M blood pumping in its veins?

German based carmaker BMW is currently testing out new models near Nurburgring, in Germany, including the recently spied 1-Series, set to arrive next year as a 2019 MY.

The new 1-Series will be totally different than the current generation, as it will make the transition to the UKL platform, meaning a front-wheel drive layout – also underpinning the new X1, MINI Cooper S and the 2-Series Active Tourer – more lightweight materials, increased space inside the cabin and a suite of engines under the hood.

Following previous spy shots released back in June, the new ones released on wilcoblock Instagram page reveal the car`s production body style. This means that the car is going to be bigger and tweaked with new design elements.

The new design elements refer to updated panels, upright grille layout for the front end, drawn-back headlights, revised rear end and larger wheels. Other new tweaks include fully-independent rear suspension setup and differential at the rear.

Speaking of the new UKL platform, this means more lightweight materials, also underpinning the new MINI Cooper S and X1 in the United Kingdom. It also automatically leads to increased space inside and better driving dynamics. The good news is that besides the front-wheel drive configuration, the all-new 2019 BMW 1-Series is also set to arrive with an all-wheel drive system, which will equip the higher-performance variants.

Performance wise, the 2019 BMW 1-Series is likely to adopt a completely new four-cylinder engine lineup. However, according to new reports, the model would also come with three-cylinder mills. Among the most important ones we could mention a 2.0-liter turbo, with around 250 kW; equipped with an all-drive configuration, this variant would come with a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds.

The all-new China-based BMW 1-Series is due to officialy arrive at the 2017 Guangzhou Auto Show, opening its gates in November, but until then, the model was recently launched online in new details concerning exterior features, technology inside and engine lineup under the hood.

The 1-Series for China will be built in a partnership with BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd, and will come with longer bonnet and wheelbase compared to its European sibling, measuring 4,456 mm long, 1,803 mm wide and 1,446 mm high.

Mechanically, the all-new BMW 1-Series will be offered with new disc brakes, electromechanical power steering with Servotronic speed-related support and the Dynamic Stability Control, all offering increase driving comfort and sporty characteristics while being on the road.

Inside, the cabin will feature improved materials for the dasbhoard and center console, adding as well a plethora of gadgetries and safety systems.

Amongst the top features we should mention the BMW Connected system with mobility assistant feature for the driver, Open obility Cloud platform for smartphones and tablets. The safety gizmos refer to Driving Assistan with collision warning and city brake, or Parking Assistant.

In the engine department, the new 1-Series Sedan will be offered with three engines, fitted underneath the 118i Sedan, 120i Sedan and 125i Sedan. The first variant will use a 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol engine with 134 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque, enough to deliver a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.4 seconds, at a top speed of 212 km/h. The fuel consumption will also be set at 5.5L100 km.

On the other hand, the 120i Sedan will come with a 2.0-liter flat-four petrol with 189 horsepower and 280 Nm of torque. Hooked to an eight-speed automatic, the model will hit 100 km/h in no less than 7.5 seconds, at a topping of 235 km/h. This one is rated at 6.2L/100 km.

Finally, the 125i Sedan will be powered by the same 2.0-liter flat-four, developing a higher 228 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque, with a top speed of 250 km/h. The power is sent to the wheels via an eight-speed Steptronic transmission, allowing a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. It will also come with a fuel consumption of 6.4L/100 km.

Those living in the Land Down Under and loving the exquisite little models from BMW`s 1-Series, should know that the German based carmaker is soon to offer the lovely M140i Performance Edition, with prices to start from AUD 71,900.

Unfortunately, just like any other special edition from BMW, this one will also be a limited-run, with just 15 models issued with the manual transmission and 45 with the automatic.

All available vehicles come with an exclusive M Performance styling package, adding as well the numbered plaque which announces the Performance Edition.

In terms of visuals, the gorgeous BMW M140i Performance Edition comes with plenty of M goodies made from carbon fiber, like gloss black grille, black rear fins, carbon fiber exterior mirrors and roof-mounted spoiler.

The overall exterior design is complemented with the high-performance exhaust system as well as the 19-inch grey lightweight alloy wheels, wearing the same M Performance signature. The mods continue inside.

Speaking about new interior features, the M140i Performance Edition welcomes you with the finest materials – Alcantara, carbon fiber trim, M Performance steering wheel wrapped in carbon fiber and leather stitching, central console wrapped in the same material as well as Alcantara dashboard and cloth sports seats.

Other features also include aluminum pedal covers or carbon fiber gar shift knob, the latter one available in the manual variants.

The auto industry is on a constant motion with carmakers perfecting their skills in delivering the best solutions for their future models. A true example on that matter is BMW manufacturer, always testing out and building the best cars in the world.

With the plethora of high-end models already out in the snow for some tests before their arrival on the market, there is one particular range that has been left out, and that is the 1-Series, with the carmaker now considering adding a new look to its future models.

According to recent rumors, the upcoming 1-Series is due to arrive in 2019 with lots of visible changes at the exterior as well as under the hood. Some might say that it would lose the current badge in the process and will make the transition under the 2-Series range.

Even so, as the trend today, it will be bigger, wider and extremely appealing with the new design language, retaining however the general aspects that made the 1-Series extremely gorgeous and appreciated. Following a recent video which highlighted the gorgeous looks – both the exterior as well as the interior – of the all-new BMW 1-Series 125i Sedan, destined for the Chinese market only, the model in question was recently caught on Munich`s streets, in Germany, while quietly resting in a car park, just outside the company`s main testing facility.

The three spy photos were added by a BMW purist via Bimmer Today auto magazine and is showcasing the 125i Sedan wearing a slight camouflage at the front and rear end, meaning that the model is performing some road tests.

Officially unveiled at the 2016 Guangzhou Auto Show in November, the new 125i Sedan comes with a fresh look, highlighted by a wider platform and longer wheelbase. This means increase space inside and a suite of interesting mills under the hood.

Amongst the car`s top styling features we should mention the double kidney grille and double round headlights, short overhangs and long bonnet, as well as the already familiar “Hofmeister-Knick” styling, which increases the car`s aggressive attitude.

In the engine department, the model is equipped with three engines, the 118i, 120i and the 125i. The first one comes with a 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo engine three-cylinder with 136 horsepower, followed by the 120i`s and the 125i`s 2.0-liter TwinPower flat-four with 192 horsepower and 231 horsepower, respectively.

The China-only BMW 125i Sedan will be produced in joint venture with Brilliance Auto in Shenyang, China, and will become the direct competitor of the all-new Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA. Full prices and details will be unveiled at a later date.

After unveiling the all-new BMW 1-Series 125i Sedan at the 2016 Guangzhou Auto Show last November, the China-only model is ending up into the spotlights again through a recent video which highlights the car`s gorgeous exterior and exquisite interior.

As the carmaker recently stated in an interview, the all-new 125i Sedan represents “the first compact sedan strategically developed on the quest to fit the young generation group who is driven by having the charisma of a young identity: design, handling, connectivity, and versatility.”

Released on the market as the main competitor of the all-new Audi A3 or Mercedes-Benz CLA Class, the new 125i Sedan is now looking fresh with a much wider platform, measuring 4.456 mm long, 1,803 mm wide and 1,446 mm high, coming as well with a wheelbase of 2,670 mm.

Compared to the previous models, the new BMW 125i sedan is visibly bigger and wider, resembling its older siblings, and coming as well with increase space inside and three engines under the hood.

Visually, the BMW 1-Series 125i Sedan shares the overall design also seen on other BMW products, adding as well its own styling bits, including the double kidney grille and double round headlights, short overhangs and long bonnet, as well as the already familiar “Hofmeister-Knick” styling, which increases the car`s aggressive attitude.

Inside, the cabin has already been highlighted, being equipped with an 8.8-inch LED central screen, BMW`s up-to-date iDrive system, full-colour Head-up Display, Start / Stop button, electric brake, or three-spoke multi-function steering.

In the engine department, the model is equipped with three engines, the 118i, 120i and the 125i. Following the news yesterday, according to which the BMW German based premium carmaker announced an array of body style, interior and powertrain upgrades for some of its important models, we have now news on the kind of the powertrains that would fit the 1-Series, the 2-Series, the 3-Series, the 4-Series, as well as the X5 model.

First off, the BMW 1-Series 118i will come with the 1.5-liter three-cylinder unit, developing 136 horsepower, hooked to a manual as well as an automatic transmission, while the 2-Series Coupe and Convertible will be packed by two diesels in the 218 d and 225d, meaning 150 horsepower and 224 horsepower as well. The convertible will also come with the M235i xDrive version, with 326 horsepower, for its six-cylinder unit.

Second, the BMW 2-Series Gran Tourer 216i version will pack a three-cylinder petrol engine with 102 horsepower, while the 214d will get the diesel three-cylinder, with 95 horsepower. The 220d will develop 190 horsepower, for the same three-cylinder unit.

The BMW German based carmaker is quietly working on a new entry crossover 1-Series, called for the moment Xcite, which would be later named the 1-Series Sport Cross, according to a report from Automobile Mag.

The future BMW 1-Series Sport Cross NEC (new entry crossover) is rumored to carry on the front-wheel drive legacy, standing on the carmaker`s new and more performance UKL platform, which will place the model below the second-gen BMW X1, also coming with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations.

Since we are talking here about a UKL platform, the BMW 1-Series Sports Cross might also come with two body styles, like three- and five-door versions, with a complete body language design, compared with what BMW has provided us with so far, in terms of visuals and aerodynamics.

Since we are referring to the new entry crossover`s design, we might depict the compact greenhouse on a much impressive and muscular body design, coming with a longer nose, wider stance and track, as well as a mixture between the M Sport and the X-line elements.

Moving under the hood, the future BMW 1-Series Sport Cross is also rumored to be equipped with a wide range of three- and four-cylinder units, hooked to the six-speed manual or automatic transmissions, while prices would be set under $30,000, for each of the 250,000 units planned. We should be able to find out more in the following period, perhaps after the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.

Couple of weeks ago there was too much fuss about the upcoming BMW models coming with an all-wheel drive layout, while the next-generation BMW 1-Series Sedan was also rumored to come with a front-wheel drive configuration, which is set to be cheaper, thus making the heavy competition against the Mercedes-Benz CLA and Audi A3 Sedan, much more bearable.

This time, the 2017 BMW 1-Series Sedan is ending up in our news again, through some spy shots provided by the Chinese website auto.sohu.com, which showcase the test mule wearing a camouflaged body with the fake body panels and vinyl tape, all of them revealing almost nothing about the model.

As already discussed in a previous article, the 2017 BMW 1-Series Sedan will come with an array of engines under the hood, like the three- or the four-cylinder inline direct injection petrol units, as well as some diesel engines with common-rail technology.

Apart from that, the model is expected to reach China, wearing a longer wheelbase, which will actually complete the gap between the 1-Series Hatch and the F30 3-Series Sedan. Apart from the front-wheel drive layout, the 2017 BMW 1-Series Sedan will also emerge with an xDrive version, meaning an all-wheel drive layout. We should expect more details later on.
