The tire market is full of different tire brands and versatile performing models, which makes it difficult to choose the right tire for your vehicle. When the time comes to choose new tires, you can find a wide selection of various tires, but how to choose the right one and which one is the best option for you?

In this ultimate guide, we will help you understand how to pick the right tire for your car by answering the following questions:

When is the right time to buy new tires?

What should you keep in mind when choosing new tires?

Which size is going to fit your vehicle?

How to get the best tires?

When Is The Right Time To Buy New Tires?

Purchasing tires at the right time can be a little bit tricky. We cannot control when we need to replace old tires with new ones. However, if we regularly maintain and check our tires, we can see the first signs that show we will need new tires soon. If you know when your old set of tires will give out, you can easily plan and research the tire market for a replacement set.

Let us discuss the best time to buy new tires for different seasons. If you’re looking for summer or winter tires, the best time to purchase them is before the season actually starts. It means that the tire manufacturers and retailers mostly give special summer or winter sales ahead of the season. Therefore, the best time to buy summer tires is around April, while October is an optimal month for winter models. At the same time, all season and all weather tires do not have a specific season, which means that you can buy them whenever you want; they have regular discounts and sales throughout the year, so just wait for the sale that works for you.

What You Should Keep In Mind When Choosing New Tires?

Considering your driving needs is of utmost importance when buying new tires. Even if you are purchasing expensive or high-quality tires, they might not fit you. So, it is important to get tires that not just fit the size, but also provide the right performance. When the time comes to look for new car tires, choose the correct tire size, the right speed rating, and the suitable load index for your vehicle. Also, if it is possible, buy tires in sets of four to maintain the vehicle’s optimal performance, stability, and safety.

Tire Size

The tire size includes the width, the aspect ratio, and the rim diameter. When choosing the right tire, it is very important to get the correct tire size to ensure the vehicle’s secure performance. They are the most crucial numbers when buying new tires. The first 3-digit number presents the tire’s width from shoulder to shoulder measured in millimeters. The second number is the ratio between the sidewall height and the tire width, expressed as a percentage. The third number is the rim diameter, which is the width of the rims in inches.

Load and Speed Ratings

The numbers and letters of load and speed ratings can be found after the tire size on the sidewall, and they indicate the maximum load and speed durability of the specific tire. The load index is a number that shows the tire’s maximum load capacity, which starts from 1 and goes up to 150. On the other hand, the speed rating is a letter that presents the maximum speed durability of the tire. They are alphabetically arranged from A1 to ZR, and they are determined based on the tire’s performance capability.

Tire Type

There are too many types of tires to choose from, so we will discuss a few important types that should be mentioned before purchasing a new tire.

All season tires

These tires are mostly the first choice for every driver. They are very popular on the tire market and come at a good price. All season tires are designed to handle dry, wet, and light winter conditions, featuring a rubber compound that maintains the rubber flexibility in warm and cold temperatures. They also prevent hydroplaning in wet situations. As such, all season tires are ideal for areas that do not have severe winter conditions.

All weather tires

All weather tires are true year-round models. These tires are something between a winter and all season tire. They manage to easily perform throughout the year and feature a 3PMS symbol, which indicates that they can handle harsh and freezing winter weather as well. Such tires can be a very good option if you want to drive all year long with peace of mind.

Summer tires

Most summer tires provide exceptional performance in dry and wet conditions. They feature a rubber compound that prevents heat build-up along the tread area in warm temperatures. Hydroplaning prevention is also one of the characteristics of these tires. Their overall design makes them perfect for sporty cars, but they are also good for everyday summer use.

Winter tires

Winter tires can be difficult to choose because they can also be divided into three types: studless, studdable, and studded tires. You should choose them based on the area with different winter weather conditions. Most winter tires feature a detailed tread pattern that can easily handle ice- and snow-covered roads. These tires avoid hydroplaning and ensure a secure winter-weather grip. The only problem with winter tires is that they do not perform well in warmer temperatures.

All terrain tires

These tire types are mostly for all terrain and off-road drivers. There are various types of off-road tires, such as all terrain, rugged terrain, mud terrain, and extreme terrain models. They have a more aggressive tread pattern, which provides stronger traction to conquer soft, loose, and uneven terrains with ease. These tires are durable and damage-resistant, so off-road enthusiasts can enjoy a safe performance on various surfaces.

Driving Style And Road Types

It is also important to choose tires based on the driving style. Your driving style, the road type that you travel on, and the purpose of your vehicle also play a role in determining the best tires for you. For sports cars and performance-oriented vehicles, performance and high performance tires would be the best choice. These tires are focused on better handling, maneuvering, speed, and braking during the performance. On the other hand, for long-distance drivers, touring and highway tires are an ideal option as they ensure a longer-lasting tread life. Highway tires boost durability while touring models secure high comfort levels. All these factors should also be considered when buying new tires.

Tread life and Warranty

When choosing tires, it’s important to look for ones with a longer-lasting tread life, as this contributes to safer performance over time. Optimized tread patterns and wear-resistant compounds help prevent irregular and premature wear, ensuring the tires last longer. Additionally, many tires come with warranty options that offer peace of mind against defects or early wear.

Noise levels

Road and tread noise levels can vary between different tire models. If you want a quiet and comfortable driving experience, choose tires designed with noise reduction specifications. In the tire market, you can find both budget-friendly and premium options that minimize the noise and provide a smoother ride.

Fuel economy

Some tire models are designed to ensure a fuel-efficient performance. Their tread pattern and the rubber compound manage to reduce the rolling resistance, which decreases fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. So, check for the low rolling resistance models if you’re looking to save on gas.

How To Get The Best Tire?

There are various options for buying tires, whether you choose to shop in-store or online. Online shopping has become more popular now, but besides that, multiple details need to be considered when buying new tires. To find the best tires for your vehicle, doing some research can help you choose the right ones. Checking reviews to identify pros and cons is a good thing and will help you a lot to be sure that the model is for you.

Comparing different tires when you cannot decide between two brands is easier online, since tire retailers have optimized websites that show all the details you need to get the best tire for your vehicle. At Priority Tire, you can compare two or more models to make a more informed decision. Also consider your own budget while choosing tires. Some budget-friendly options can offer good value for the price, but premium brands deliver excellent performance and longevity for a higher price.

Conclusion

The best tires for your vehicles depend on many factors mentioned here. Driving habits, price tags, and weather conditions are as equally important as the tire size and the rest of the model’s specifications. Whether you prioritize safety, comfort, performance, or longevity, the tire market offers a wide range of options to meet your needs.

It’s important not to compromise on quality when purchasing tires, as doing so can lead to higher costs in the long run. Since tires are the only contact between your vehicle and the road, they should be durable, longer-lasting, and made from high-quality materials. Always take the time to research and read reviews before choosing the best tires for your needs.

Owning a car is a significant investment, and maintaining it properly is key to ensuring its longevity and performance. Every vehicle, regardless of its brand or model, requires regular upkeep to prevent unexpected breakdowns and costly repairs.

By understanding common car maintenance issues, owners can stay ahead of potential problems and keep their vehicles running smoothly.

In this article, we will explore some of the most frequent maintenance concerns every car owner should be aware of, along with tips on how to manage them effectively.

1. Engine Oil Changes and Monitoring

One of the most crucial aspects of car maintenance is regularly changing and monitoring engine oil levels. Engine oil serves to lubricate the engine’s moving components, minimizing friction and preventing overheating.

Over time, engine oil breaks down and becomes less effective, leading to potential engine damage if not replaced on time.

Neglecting oil changes can result in increased engine wear, overheating, and even complete engine failure. Additionally, keeping an eye on oil levels between changes is equally important. Low oil levels can be caused by leaks or excessive consumption, both of which need immediate attention.

Always check the oil dipstick and ensure the level falls within the recommended range to avoid costly repairs down the line.

For owners of luxury cars such as BMWs, these maintenance steps are especially crucial. Failing to keep up with regular oil changes can lead to substantial BMW repair bills, as high-performance engines are particularly sensitive to neglect.

2. Tire Care and Alignment Issues

Tires are the only contact your car has with the road, making tire maintenance a priority for safe and efficient driving. Over time, tires wear down, lose traction, and may even become misaligned, affecting the car’s handling.

Several factors, including driving habits, road conditions, and alignment issues, influence tire wear patterns. Regular tire rotations, which involve changing the position of the tires, help distribute wear evenly across all four tires, prolonging their lifespan.

In addition to rotation, maintaining the correct tire pressure is crucial for both safety and fuel efficiency. Under-inflated tires increase rolling resistance, which reduces fuel efficiency and causes uneven tire wear.

Over-inflated tires, on the other hand, can lead to a harsh ride and reduced traction. Checking tire pressure monthly and inflating the tires to the manufacturer’s specifications can save you from costly replacements and prevent blowouts.

Wheel alignment is another common issue that can negatively impact tire wear and overall vehicle performance. Misaligned wheels cause the car to pull to one side, making steering more difficult and unevenly wearing down tires.

Regular alignment checks are essential to keep your car running smoothly and make sure you get the most out of your tires.

3. Brake System Maintenance

The brake system is one of the most critical components of any vehicle, directly affecting the safety of both the driver and passengers. Over time, brakes wear out due to constant use, and ignoring brake maintenance can lead to dangerous driving conditions.

The most apparent signs of brake problems are squeaking, a spongy brake pedal, and longer stopping distances.

Regularly inspecting the brake pads, rotors, and fluid levels can help you identify problems early and avoid costly repairs. Brake pads, which are designed to wear down over time, should be replaced when they become too thin. Failing to do so can lead to rotor damage, which is far more expensive to repair.

In addition to replacing worn brake pads, it’s important to monitor the brake fluid levels and flush the brake system as needed. Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, which can lead to corrosion and reduced braking efficiency.

Checking your owner’s manual for the recommended brake fluid change intervals will help make sure your brakes remain in top condition.

4. Battery Maintenance and Replacement

A dead battery is one of the most common reasons for a car failing to start. Car batteries typically last between three to five years, but extreme temperatures, frequent short trips, and leaving electronic devices plugged in can shorten their lifespan. Regularly checking the battery’s charge and condition can prevent an unexpected breakdown.

Car owners should inspect their battery terminals for signs of corrosion, which can prevent proper electrical connections. Cleaning the terminals and ensuring they are tightly connected can improve battery performance. Additionally, keeping an eye on the dashboard warning lights for battery-related issues is essential.

When it comes time to replace the battery, it’s crucial to select the correct type for your vehicle. A weak or incorrect battery can cause electrical issues and impact the performance of other systems in the car. Be proactive in replacing an aging battery before it fails completely, leaving you stranded.

5. Fluid Checks and Replacements

Apart from engine oil, cars rely on several other fluids to function correctly, including coolant, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, and brake fluid. Each of these plays a critical role in the vehicle’s performance and must be monitored regularly.

Coolant, also known as antifreeze, helps regulate the engine temperature by preventing overheating in hot weather and freezing in cold conditions. Low coolant levels or leaks can result in engine damage, so it’s important to check and top off the coolant as necessary. If the engine runs hotter than normal or you notice coolant under the car, it’s time to have the system inspected for leaks.

Transmission fluid lubricates the gears and keeps the transmission system running smoothly. Low or dirty transmission fluid can cause shifting issues, slipping gears, and overheating. Regular transmission fluid checks and replacements are essential for long-term vehicle health.

Power steering fluid makes steering easier, while brake fluid enables the brake system to function effectively. Both fluids need regular checks to avoid malfunctions. A decrease in power steering fluid may indicate a leak, which should be addressed immediately. Likewise, low brake fluid can result in a spongy brake pedal and reduced braking power.

6. Air Filter Replacement

Air filters play a crucial role in ensuring that clean air enters the engine, which is essential for optimal combustion and engine performance. Over time, air filters become clogged with dust, dirt, and debris, reducing airflow and decreasing engine efficiency.

Regularly replacing air filters is a simple yet effective way to improve fuel economy, boost engine performance, and reduce harmful emissions.

The frequency of air filter replacement depends on driving conditions. If you’re regularly driving in dusty or polluted environments, you must replace the filter more often.

A clogged air filter can lead to reduced engine power, poor acceleration, and higher fuel consumption, so staying on top of this maintenance task is essential.

Regular car maintenance is critical for the longevity and performance of any vehicle. By understanding the common issues that arise and taking proactive steps to address them, car owners can save themselves from costly repairs and potential breakdowns. Whether it’s monitoring engine oil levels, keeping your tires in check, or replacing worn-out brakes, staying vigilant about maintenance can keep your car running smoothly for years to come.

Always consult your vehicle’s manual for recommended maintenance intervals and address any issues promptly to avoid further complications.

I know BMW is a pretty restrained and grown up manufacturer when it comes to certain models. The F10 5 Series and F12 6 Series seem to be mature enough to grow beards.

That’s quite the nice thing to be described by and it probably makes plenty of customers happy. But what if you want to let your hair down?

F12 BMW M6

Can the big German coupe still let its hair down and leave you giggling like a schoolgirl when driving it in what’s an enthusiastic manner.

BMW’s USA arm decided to undertake a pretty interesting experiment. One of their top drivers was involved alongside an M6, some paper and some paint.

Having sprayed the paint from the trunk through a custom system towards the tires, the car would leave very pronounced tire tracks on the paper it ran over.

The video is pretty self explanatory and the idea of what they’re trying to make is actually remarkable. The papers with tire tread paint on them will be used in an interesting way.

BMW will actually be using the resulting sheets of paper to create unique autographs which will be sent out to M Division fans across the world.

Personally, I consider that 560 horsepower and 502 lb-ft of torque from a 4.4 liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine can be put to somewhat more interesting uses.

F12 BMW M6

Perhaps BMW have more feelings than I do or perhaps (and this is more likely) they actually have something outside selfishness in their genes.

We’ll just have to add that to the list of reasons for why we like BMW.

For all its ambition, freshness and amazement, the BMW i Range still has a few chinks in its armor. Whatever the viewing angle you cannot circumvent the fact that there’s not that much of a range going on.

You have the small, very efficient i3 city car and then you have the technological flagship that is the BMW i8 without anything in between.

i Range BMW 7 Series

That between bit is quite a consistent one and it seems like the BMW 7 Series we see here may be the first new car to make up for it.

The model spied here looks a lot like a regular BMW 7 Series, has pretty much the same body and the same size but there’s something a little odd about it.

Even though this wears the BMW 7 Series ActiveHybrid badge, it’s still not enough to properly enter the ranks of the i Range. For that, this spied BMW 7 series has a different trick to showcase.

i Range BMW 7 Series

Those very thin (for a luxury barge that big) tires, the unusual wheels and the look of the braking system underneath could actually mean that there’s some serious modifications going on.

Perhaps even enough to see the BMW 7 Series in these pictures drop the ActiveHybrid lettering altogether and settle for something from the i Range.

i Range BMW 7 Series

As you’d imagine, this is all nothing more than speculation. BMW gave no confirmation of this being what we think but they do want to make such a car.

And with a projected release time of less than two years the BMW i7 could hit the market just in time to fight off the newcomers such as Tesla’s Model S or the Fisker Karma.

The winter season can be a royal pain, especially if the snow keeps falling and piling up, making it hard to get to and from work and generally everywhere without a bit of help. After all, you need to be prepared if you don’t want to get stuck somewhere with your car right? The obvious solution would be to use winter tires for your BMW, but this winter chances are that you will use something different. Okay, we’re still talking about winter tires, but this time from BMW.

BMW Winter Tires

Made specifically by BMW engineers to be used in the harsh winter season in the presence of ice and snow, the tires feature a special mix of rubber so that the tire will be efficient in low temperatures.

According to BMW, the winter tires will have a double benefit (apart from being from our favourite manufacturer): leaving aside the obvious good performance in the snowy environment, presuming there is no snow, the tires would still last longer because of the reduced wear and if it happens to rain, it they will enhance the grip of the car.

Stay tuned for more info on the subject.

As BMW are working on getting you half way there with a M-Sports package for your nice simpler and more affordable BMW 5 series.

The 5 Series is pretty much available at dealers round the world so this special option is almost here but for now it’s going to be hidden under specific BMW camouflage.

As previous M-Sports packages have shown us and as these photos are hinting, this prototype suggests that the new model will receive a deeper front air-dam with larger intakes, side sill extensions and a re-contoured back bumper to accommodate the larger the tailpipes.

Besides what’s visible here, a M-Sports package for a BMW will offer you some trim upgrades like aluminum or carbon-fiber, some M badges everywhere along with more aggressive sport seats and perhaps a different steering wheel.

There are a few mechanical components of serious importance to come along with this package such as, wheels, tires and suspension or brake packages.
