After being caught on shots at Nurburgring in some heavy tests or caught in China by auto.sohu.com, with the model wearing fake body panels and vinyl tape, the 2017 BMW 1-Series Sedan is ending up in our news again, with a serious question concerning the manufacturing of the model for the Chinese market as well.

Surely, we already know that the German based carmaker was preparing a longer wheelbase for the Chinese market, which would fill the gap between the 1-Series hatch and the F30 3-Series Sedan, and according to a recent interview with Shawn Ticehurst, the chief at BMW Market Planning, the rumors were confirmed concerning the building of the 2017 BMW 1-Series Sedan exclusively in China.

Apart China, the upcoming BMW 1-Series will also arrive in the US in 2017, where will be first manufactured under the NES (New Entry-Level Sedan) name, which will be also seen on other BMW models, like the fresh 2-Series Active Tourer or the future X1. The US will receive two versions, the 120i and the 125i, and will directly rival the Mercedes-Benz CLA as well as the new Audi A3 Sedan.

Under the hood of the new 2017 1-Series Sedan, BMW has decided to fit the model with an interesting array of engines, starting with the three-cylinder, as well as the four-cylinder inline direct-injection petrol units. The diesels will receive the common-rail technology. The model will also have a front-wheel drive layout, while the four-wheel drive configuration will also emerge.

The 2017 BMW 1-Series Sedan will come with some updated features in terms of visuals, as the model will now loos sleeker with its new headlights, while the nose received the same usual air intakes. At the rear, the new 1-Series will also be also fitted with the L-shaped taillights. Overall, the model will come in the same size with the E46 3-Series.

The BMW German manufacturer is on a constant development, as it is planning to expand the “i” family, alongside the i3 electric car and the i8 plug-in hybrid.

First of all, the company wants to start expansion on the i3 electric car, which might be coming with a new body, like a stretched wheelbase model, for the Chinese market probably.

Official reports state that these new models will be green lit and will enter the market in less than three years.

More than that, an MPV style van with features from the 2 Series Active Tourer or a sportier i3 Coupe, are already attracting the company`s attention.

Thus, the BMW is considering in investing a lot of money in the hybrid i8 sports car, which will hit the showrooms somewhere in June, with a full agenda for the following years as well.

Increasing production in the US means that the i3 and the i8 will be rolled out, with other models to get their priority.

China is rapidly growing from an economic point of view, and that includes the car making industry. Aware of this fact, the big car companies try to get a piece of the cake.

But in order to make money, you have to spend some, and BMW sure is spending.

Chinese Premier Li Kequiang came for three days to Germany, and in the presence of both him and Chancellor Angela Merkel, BMW signed an agreement with its Chinese counterpart, Brilliance Auto. The agreement stipulates that some 100 million EUR will be invested into the Chinese market.

This money will go into building a new manufacturing plant as well as an economic research center. This represents the next step in the relationship between BMW and Brilliance, a partnership that started back in 2003. Since then, the German car maker has made huge strides into the Chinese market and soon that might be the main market for BMW.

It’s no secret the sort of market China has grown to be or is expected to grow further in the nearby future so it’s no surprise to see manufacturers cater to the People’s Republic.

The latest “tailored for this market” car in the lineup comes from our favorite car maker and it’s a stretched version of the F30 BMW 3 Series.

A considerable amount of details are missing but the big picture is pretty clear, the F30 BMW 3 Series LWB is not going to change the world any time soon.

When it hits the market it will likely be based on the 335i F30 and it is also very likely that it will only be available with that engine in it.

As far as branding is concerned, I don’t think there’s any point to stretching beyond the BMW 335Li no matter how much more rear legroom customers want.

If it seems pointless to you, or most people in Europe or the US for that matter, Chinese businessmen are very used to having a personal driver.

Regardless of the car they buy, it’s not uncommon to be chauffeured around in it and there’s two reasons for this.

Driving can take up time and hiring somebody to drive you everywhere is remarkably cheap.

It’s also worth noting that BMW isn’t on point duty when it comes to the business of creating LWB versions of smaller cars than usual.

Audi has been selling an A6L and A4L in China for some time now. Mercedes isn’t very clear on the situation but their C and E Class tend to be roomier in the back anyway.

BMW isn’t an enormous conglomerate of car brands like GM, Toyota, Volkswagen and the rest. They only own Rolls Royce, Mini, their two wheeled division and the recently founded i sub-brand.

It’s the sort of operation that works well with the company organisation and, more importantly, with the product focus the Bavarians are so good at.

Still, the newest announcement from BMW and their Chinese partners, Brilliance, speaks of a bit of a departure with this idea.

The two will join forces to create a brand new… brand. The new car maker under the wing of BMW doesn’t have a name yet, but it does have a good product idea and a new marketing direction.

BMW has had quite the success on the Chinese market but what they’ve got to say about it is something you don’t hear everywhere else.

Yes, the Chinese market is a very strong one, the one that’s going to grow the most and all that but it lacks something.

None of the Chinese produced cars are attractive to the enormous markets all over the rest of the world. This is where the new partnership between BMW and Brilliance comes in.

The new EVs these two partners are going to create are going to aim for the export market as much as they are going to do so for the Chinese one.

To begin with, the lucky Chinese will get themselves a chance at a brand new BMW 5 Series plugin hybrid. The unveiling of this model took place at Auto Shanghai 2011, all the way back in April.
