The 2016 Paris Motor Show is close to its opening on the 29th of September with BMW preparing a whole new fleet for official unveiling, and one of the hottest model reported to be launched as well, is the 5-Series Touring seen here undergoing final tests.

The BMW 5-Series is looking better than ever and the Touring is the cream of the crop. As we can depict from the spy photos below, it wraps light camouflage, another indication that it is closer to its finished form.

The test mule reveals a muscular and reshaped design, with updated rear spoiler and new bonnet. The camo around the front bumper or front fender air outlets indicates that there is still much work to undergo.

Just like the BMW 5-Series standard model or the all-new 7-Series, the 5-Series Touring is based on the same modular architecture, meaning that is now around 100 kg lighter and coming with lightweight materials, such as CFRP (carbon reinforced plastics) for improved performance.

In the engine department, the BMW 5-Series Touring will come with a 2.0-liter B47 diesel and B48 gasoline flat-four engine, closely followed by a higher 3.0-liter B57 diesel and B58 gasoline six-cylinder turbo. As expected, a hardcore version of the 4.4-liter petrol V8 is also in the news.

On the other side, the PHEV model will come with a 2.0-liter flat-four, the same one found on the 330e or 740e, coming along with a high-performance electric motor.

At the 2016 Paris Motor Show, the BMW 5-Series Touring might be launched alongside the all-new 5-Series, GT, with the 5-Series to closely follow the lineup next year, perhaps at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show, in January.

BMW announced two new 2.0-liter diesel engines that will be available on the current 5-Series starting this summer. The BMW 518d will get the 148hp version while a more potent 188hp engine will be seen on the BMW 520d.

If you opt for the entry-level unit of these two, sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h takes 9,5 seconds for the Sedan and 9,1 seconds for the Touring. Moving up to the 188hp version, accelerating from standstill to 100 km/h is possible in 7,9 seconds (Sedan) and 8,1 seconds (Touring).

BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system is available for this model but makes the Touring model 0,1 second slower.

If fuel economy is your concern, you have to know that the BMW 518d returns average figures of 54,7 to 50 mpg US (Sedan) and 51,1 to 47 mpg US (Touring). The BMW 520d does 54,7 to 50 mpg US (Sedan) and 51,1 to 47 mpg US (Touring).

BMW just released a video showcasing the facelifted version of the 5 Series vehicle range.

From what we can gather from the video, it seems the German car maker didn’t go wild with restyling the 5 Series, and maybe it’s for the best.

It is understandable that a car should go through some changes during its lifetime, but each should be backed by some sort of reasoning. Right now some facelifts seem to be uncalled for.

The 5 Series never was an ugly car, and BMW are quite aware of this. To this end, the facelift was nothing major, leaving the vehicle pretty much the same. The video starts with the 5 Series sedan, presenting it in its home environment, the city, then moves on to the Touring version, finishing off with the more recent Gran Turismo.

BMW also makes sure to present in their video some of the new features available on their 5 Series, namely the HUD, Driving Experience Control system and the iDrive touch system.

The Bavarian Police received a fleet of nine BMW 5 Series Touring vehicles, models which benefit from all the required equipment for a police car. According to the first details, the fleet has been donated by BMW to the Bavarian Police, Joachim Herrmann, German Interior Minister, taking delivery of the vehicles from Alexander Thorwirth.

All nine vehicles are fitted with a new exterior design never seen on the German police patrol vehicles. These models will be seen on the streets of Munich and Upper Bavaria North, features such as strobe lights and iDrive signal system being installed from the factory.

The new green graphics are also factory-installed as they are developed by BMW and follow to be adopted on the future patrol cars. The Germans also modified the trunk of the model, all these models benefiting from increased space but also from front/rear cameras.

“I am pleased that now the new BMW 5 Series Touring with our police for pasting on the road in Bavaria. It is in my heart to equip our police with modern emergency vehicles. I thank the BMW Group for her dedication and innovative, pioneering work,” said Joachim Herrmann.

The German specialists from Hamann decided to release details on their new tuning package specially developed for the Touring version of the current 5 Series generation. If few months ago, the sedan version received a styling package from the Germans, this time, the Touring version, codenamed F11, gets few aesthetic tweaks.

As expected, Hamann offers just a styling package without improving the engine range, exactly the same story as the tuning kit developed for the sedan variant.

All the major modifications can be seen at the exterior, where the German family model receives a body kit including side skirts, a rear air diffuser integrating the quad-pipe exhaust system, a rear spoiler and a set of 21-inch matte black “Anodized” Edition Race Design fitted with 255/30 ZR21 (front) and 295/25 ZR21 (back) tires.

Moreover, Hamann offers other choices in terms of wheels, including 20 or 21-inch silver of matte black “Anniversary Evo” rims. For the interior, the German tuners prepared aluminum pedals, an optional leather upholstery, carbon fiber trim and a sports steering wheel. In order to improve the ride, Hamann offers a retuned suspension system that lowers the ground clearance by 35 mm.

The Germans from AC Schnitzer, a tuning house well-known for the kits developed for BMW models, decided to reveal a tuning kit for a model that is more a family one than a sports one. We talk about the BMW 5 Series Touring F11, which receives a complete tuning kit from the German tuners, a tuning kit which includes exterior and interior improvements but also upgraded performance figures.

Outside the German tuners mounted new stylish front and rear bumpers, 21-inch alloy wheels, new side sills and at the interior a new sports steering wheel is available among carbon fiber trim. A new suspension system was mounted together with a high performance exhaust system.

By far the most interesting things happen under the bonnet where a series of engines were improved. For the beginning the 2.0-liter diesel engine is now able to achieve better performance, namely 218 horsepower while the BMW 525d F11 gets almost 250 horsepower, 245 more exactly. Two more propellers were amended, the 530d and the 535d, models able to develop now 286 horsepower, respectively 360 horsepower.

You should also know that in UK, this new 2011 BMW 5 Series touring is going to go on sale in September so there are some months left to wait if you want to put your hands on such a car.

We talked you twice after the launch of this car and we also showed you some high res photos and some of them can also be found in this post. Anyway, we forgot what’s more important than photos namely the videos and as you can see in the title we also have an official video from BMW with this new 2011 BMW 5 Series Touring.

Honestly I don’t really like the touring versions of any car but if I would have to choose the perfect touring car, I think this would be because it is also the newest one.

The 4.4 liter V8 won’t be available on the launch but there will be available a 2.0 liter inline-four and also another much powerful one of 3.0 liter inline-six. If you want to use such a car for long trips or as a car of you firm, I think you should choose a diesel one.

It’s kind of funny if we have this because we just talked yesterday about some other news about this BMW 5 Series Touring namely that BMW won’t stop building this car or it will, but just in U.S. because they had few sales there. The Europeans shouldn’t worry about it.

If you were still not sure what to believe from the news that I wrote yesterday, I think now you should be sure that this car won’t stop being built. You may think that this spy video was taken a while ago but it’s not true, it was taken just with one month before the release at the Leipzig 2010 Auto Show.

As you can see in the spy video, there is not just one BMW 5 Series Touring, there are three BMW 5 Series Touring namely a blue one, a white one and a black one and both of them are barely camouflaged.

Some time ago we told you that this BMW 5 Series Touring was not going to be built anymore but those were just rumors and by reading the title I think you already know that those rumors proved to be wrong, or at last a part of them, there are some big chances for this BMW 5 Series Touring not to be built in U.S. anymore.

The first reason is that the double-hinged hatchback BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo had very few sales in U.S. so they will probably not build this BMW 5 Series Touring in there anymore but the Europeans shouldn’t worry because in Europe, that car had a lot of sales.

We also know that this BMW 5 Series Touring is going to have the premiere at the 2010 Auto Mobil International show also known as 2010 AMI. Note that what I told you in this post are not rumors.
