Ever since its official unveiling on the market back in 2012, the MINI Paceman has been a lovely model with an extremely aggressive yet appealing design and quite impressive engines under the hood.

Unfortunately, according to recent reports, the British carmaker is planning to discontinu the Paceman lineup, and that because of the carmaker`s decision of reducing costs and resuming to just a handful of models. Another reason of putting it to sleep is the poor sales it had over the last years, with just 8,730 units sold in Europe in 2014.

MINI will finish selling the Paceman by the end of the year, with no successor to follow its footstep. This would be the carmaker`s decision of refreshing its lineup and sticking up to just a few models, like the new Convertible, hatchback and Clubman versions, along with the upcoming JCW ALL4, which will be unveiled at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, starting next week.

The aforementioned models will also be joining the future Countryman sedan, also debuting at the Paris show. This one will be based on the Clubman version and will be released mainly in the Unites States and some Asian countries.

The MINI Paceman will stop production by the end of the year, the model still being manufactured in Gaz, Austria, by Magna Steyr. This is the same factory where the new BMW 5-Series will be also built, starting next year.

Guess that despite the recent woes about high end luxury car sales being on the decline don’t worry BMW too much who are keeping their original plan.

The M1 successor is going ahead in its development and its scheduled release for 2016 remains unaltered. BMW will have a different kind of flagship to fight off Audi’s R8 and Mercedes’ SLS.

It will be a mid-engined supercar, something we haven’t seen BMW do since the early 80’s. Not only that, the BMW M1 it was the only creation from the bavarians to have such a setup.

Unlike the previous version, this car will not be developed alongside Lamborghini, the plans and molds will hopefully not need to be stolen and the commercial success won’t be duplicated.

The first version of this car was a bit of a mess in terms of pricing and sales success. This one is supposed to set landmark history in the German rivalry.

Apart from that, the BMW M1’s development will fall onto the shoulders of the M Division. AMG did their work on the SLS and they ended up with quite the crazy machine.

If the M Division gets the same level of engineering freedom, they may end up producing something that handles beyond what we can dream right now.

There is a bit of controversy about the new announcement though. The M1’s successor will actually be called the M8.

This is done to avoid confusion between the new car and the 1 Series M Coupe. Since the 8 Series doesn’t really exist anymore, we’ll let it slide.

Oh boy, I’m currently actually struggling to contain my enthusiasm for this new bit of news that has our favorite company at the core.

More and more reports are trickling in about how the Bavarians are actually going to make a followup version of the infamous 1 Series M Coupe.

The M Performance spec M235i is coming and it will be available in 2014 in the US but it seems that a higher up model is also in question.

Obviously, we’re talking about a spiritual successor to the 1 Series M Coupe. Let’s not forget that the E89 coupe had a 135i model before the actual cake came along.

The successor isn’t yet stuck with an announced release date. Frankly we don’t care. We also don’t care about the fact that it will very likely be called the 2 Series M coupe.

We don’t care because as the current version of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe keeps racking up impressive reviews and making appearances in our dreams, the next one just keeps on giving us hope.

Hopefully, the 3.0 liter straight six cylinder turbocharged engine will get even smoother and even more powerful.

We don’t ask for much but could the economy be better? Frankly we’re just nitpicking right now as it will likely develop some 350 horsepower or more which is light speed potential.

You can’t be the least bit serious about your driving and say that this BMW 1 Series M Coupe isn’t something your interested.

Which makes the follow-up model that much more interesting.

Those waiting for the Bavarians to make a brand new mid-engined super car are in for a bit of disappointment.

BMW hasn’t got any intention to do so and nor does their M division.

In a recent interview with egmcartech that situation was well and truly cleared.

As far as our favorite German company is concerned, the subject of a M1 successor did come into focus recently, but it didn’t get a greenlight.

Most of the discussions revolving around the new supercar came from the idea that BMW might want to try and fight the Audi R8 and the Mercedes SLS.

With these two targets set, BMW’s M division was faced with a choice between a front engine wedge supercar or one that had its engine in the middle. Neither made the mark for a variety of reasons.

A top of the line supercar isn’t in their plans. These decisions took place quite a while back (during the development of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe) but still stand today and for the near future.

BMW of North America’s M-Division Product Manager, Matt Russell, even went as far to say that this isn’t a big loss to the company.

In reality, BMW already makes supercars, it’s just that they also have an executive and practical side. Though it sounds a little like adspeak, Russell does have a point.

Your average BMW M5 buyer either gets enough of a kick from his car, or has some sort of track day machine already setup. There’s no need for a new BMW M1 to enter the picture.
