The Handelsblatt newspaper from Germany reports that there were sources inside the BMW German Company, stating that the automaker is planning to double their team efforts and their partnership with the SGL Carbon specialist, for a future production of more than 6,000 tones per year.

With more than 100 million euros recently being invested, the Germany and the US have solidified their partnership to increase demands of the company`s i3 electric and i8 hybrid sports cars.

In the past, the company managed to sell more than 11,000 units since the i3 was first released in Germany, while the i8, due to come in mid-2014, has already exceeded demands for its first year.

We don’t know exactly when this future production will start, as neither the SGL Carbon nor the BMW automaker hasn’t yet reported.

What they did state was that they have prepared the “scenery” for the upcoming plans for increase production.

Typically for the Germans, they now have enough carbon fiber for the i3 and i8 models to handle the expected future demands.

Rumors stated that due to the first model which managed to surpass expectations of selling more than 11,000 units worldwide since November, the BMW automaker is said to expand the range of the i-branded electric range.

But the production chief at BMW, Harald Krueger, said that the company won`t be adding a third model to the i-branded range until higher demands will be on the roll.

The i-series has been trademarked by the i9 version, but Krueger also stated that it has no plans to add it to the i3 and i8 plug-in hybrid cars, going on sale this spring.

There are no specific figures given by the production chief, for the current production rate of the i3, which is being built in Leipzig, Germany.

BMW is heavily using lightweight carbon fiber-reinforced plastic in its i-range. The German car manufacturer has also built a US factory in collaboration with SGL Carbon to its cars with enough fiber carbon materials.

In China, the biggest car market in the world, there are no fresh news concerning the launch of the i-series there, due to the poor infrastructure for that matter.

It seems that the Bavarians from BMW are planning to upgrade the braking system of the new BMW M5 (F10) by introducing high-performance carbon ceramic brakes. This statement has been made by Dr. Herbert Diess from BMW which makes it a certain information rather than a rumor. Of course, this does not mean that the current BMW M5 has issues with the braking system, the German company is only trying to take advantage of the joint venture with SGL Carbon, a company which is supplying carbon fiber components for the models in the range.

In order to obtain the best results, BMW will collaborate with the specialists from Brembo as well, the company following to design the new ceramic discs.

According to the company, fitting the new carbon ceramic discs to the current braking disc requires slightly larger wheels, at least 20-inch.

These details about the new carbon ceramic discs were confirmed by Herbert Diess for BimmerFile, the same German official claiming that we should see the new system close to the U.S. debut of the high-performance M5. It remains to be seen if the Germans will adopt the new system and most important if it will be available in the United States.
