BMW Group decided to release the results of the trial program launched in the UK in December 2009. This project involved 40 Mini E electric vehicles and lasted for 12 months, until March 2011. The Oxford Brookes University analyzed the results and did the research, the final figures being more than satisfying for BMW’s sub-brand. A total of 40 MINI E vehicles were given to 76 pool users and 62 citizens in a project conducted in two stages.

Kulveer Ranger, Mayor of London’s environment director, said: “Electric driving technology is coming on leaps and bounds, but people naturally still have questions and concerns. Research such as this by BMW Group into real life experiences is invaluable as it debunks some common myths and underscores why electric vehicles are perfect for urban driving.”

A total of 138 drivers (32 women and 106 men) used the British electric model for a full year for a total of 33,345 journeys and 415,380 kilometers. They used a total of 80,282 kWh of electricity, the average charging cost over six months being somewhere at £60, which is around 2p per kilometer.

Over the six month stage, the highest mileage obtained by an individual driver was 11,270 kilometers while the average was somewhere 4,830 kilometers. According to the official details, almost all the participants would buy now an electric model as the results turned out to be quite impressive.

The main advantage is the extremely low cost, as mentioned above, the charging costs are somewhere around £60 for six months. Even we talk about a small electric model, the Mini E packs a motor able to deliver 204 horsepower and 204 Nm of torque reaching a top speed of 153 km/h. The driving range of the British model is somewhere around 180 kilometers on a single charge, the energy being stored in a 35 kWh lithium-ion battery.

“The feedback from the trial has been invaluable in helping our understanding of how people really respond to electric cars and other factors necessary to support electric car drivers,” said Suzanne Gray, General Manager of BMW i.

People at BMW revealed some time ago the results of some test regarding the Mini E electric model. You may ask me what I’m talking about over here. Well, BMW decided to give a number of more than 500 Mini E units to different people across U.S., Germany and England, and to collect the opinions and complaints.

The electric model received very positive feedback from the people that were given, Mini E met the most of the requirements of usual people. In figures, 66% of people that participated at this test said that the electric model offered the same features as a conventional one, using an internal combustion engine while 90% of the people said that Mini E managed to have an enough big autonomy for their daily needs.

This test was designed for the urban trafic in the big cities of the world. Mini E received such a positive feedback because the electric model offers an autonomy of 180 kilometers, and, for example, in Germany, the medium lenght of a journey is 14 kilometers.

The first moves, BMW made with the Mini E but I don’t want to talk about that car right now. You should already know that BMW is planning to build the BMW ActiveE because some time ago we also talked about that so for more details just make a simple search on this blog.

What I want to tell you is that BMW officially reported that they are going to sell some units of BMW ActiveE next year and they are going to build in U.S. more than 200 units which is awesome for the beginning.

BMW is proud to announce the introduction of its first completely electric vehicle the 515 Electric Mini E. The ambitious part is that 515 Electric Mini E is claiming a fairly incredible 240 Kilometres of driving, placing it at the forefront of mobility in today’s world thus offering more autonomy than previous electric vehicles.

515 Electric Mini E boasts that the E’s brushless electric motor drives the front wheels via a single-stage helical gearbox to pump out 204 horse power turbo, 1.6-litre four cylinder smoothly on the road.

The 515 Electric Mini E is designed to accelerate nearly 100 Kilometres an hour in just 8.5 seconds, the seemingly lethargic pickup which is the result of extra 200 kilograms of batteries it carries in the rear seat area. 515 Electric Mini E takes an even more aggressive approach as you let up on the gas pedal. When you simply take the foot off the accelerator, the car literally feels like it wants to stop for a streetlight. Handling 515 Electric Mini E is still go-kart-like and the interior is little different with mounted tachometer that has been modified into a battery charge gauge.

Even if BMW has decided to make only 500 Mini E, the model will continue to be a popular one.

The full set of official pictures has be realest and we can now see exactly what the Mini E is made of. The stylish car has a black and yellow interior and the gauges with which we are used to. This little monster can deliver 200 horse power and, keep in mind, it is an electric car. BMW has even released a video of the car on the track. They say that Mini E is perfect on the road and that the noise that it produces is minimum. There are four videos available and you can find them at paultan.org.

In the end, the Mini E will always be a great car and many fans are sad because mass production won’t start anytime soon.

The Mini E was announced at the L.A. Show and the initial 500 pieces have already been created.

Mini E had a great success, but BMW is not planing on going into mass production with this model. Next year, from the 500 lot, 450 cars will have to be sent back to BMW because of the lease contract signed by the current owners. This way, BMW hopes to improve their electric car technology and they will see exactly how the Mini E behaved on the streets. The car is not a practical vehicle because it doesn’t have room for luggage or more than 2 passages.

In the end, BMW hopes to use the technology from the Mini E into their new models: BMW X1, X3 and the new 3 Series.

The Mini E was presented at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The new hybrid car will soon hit the streets, unfortunately, only for Northern America. Yes, BMW has released 500 new Mini E with 204 horse power only for the American market.

However, they promise to think about introducing the new Mini E to Europe in the near future. This car is amazing for a hybrid, being able to travel almost 160 miles without having to be recharged. The speed is limited to 150km/h or 95 miles/h, but this is still great for a hybrid. The Mini E will certainly satisfy its customers and BMW just wanted us to know that they can still make great mini cars.
