In today`s fast development auto industry, there are plenty of carmakers that join forces in order to create new technologies that would make their future models, greener, more powerful and more fuel-efficiency.

The latest example of such joint venture is the recent collaboration between BMW and McLaren, which come with the sole purpose of developing a new powertrain with as low CO2 emissions as possible and increase performance. Also, the UK government has announced its support in this project by allowing access to the Advanced Propulsion Centre and involving other six supply and manufacturing partners.

BMW and McLaren will thus benefit the help of Grainger, Worrall or Ricardo, which will provide the necessary technology, materials and much more in order to carry out the joint venture`s complex project.

Mike Flewitt, CEO at McLaren Automotive has better explained the whole project within a recent interview:

“This is an exciting project that plays to the strengths of all partners. McLaren Automotive has an exceptional reputation for building the world’s finest engines… we will continue to independently design and build our own engines, and the benefits of this project will help us accelerate the development of our next generation of powertrain, as confirmed in our recently-announced Track22 business plan.”

The high-performance combustion engine might be fitted underneath the future replacement of the F1, slotted to arrive on the market in 2019, the model coming with a three-seat configuration. Once set for production line, the V8 engine is reported to develop a whopping 750 horsepower, with a production line of just 106 units.

Just a while ago, CAR magazine issued a report according to which BMW and McLaren might be working on a supercar that would come out in 2017 and reach dealerships in 2019.

However, an updated info have just denied the aforementioned information, as the BMW M`s CEO has just stated to Motoring magazine in a press release, that such a joint project would never see the daylight.

Frank van Meel, the M`s CEO has denied the existence of a supercar developed by BMW and McLaren, which would be powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine, with two electric motors and an overall of 750 horsepower.

“We admire McLaren and we have obviously worked with them in the past, but there is nothing on the agenda,” van Meel also stated.

The denial is also based on the last statements of other CEOs from BMW, like Harald Kruger or Klaus Frohlic, the Director from BMW`s Research and Development department, who have also denied the existence of such a supercar. The whole idea is nothing but a prank.

On the other hand, Frank van Meel took advantage of the situation and also stated that BMW is ready to move forward with the next generation of the i8 plug-in hybrid or the all-electric i3, which are set to come with the most advanced technologies.

“The halo car of the entire BMW brand is the i8 and a lot of money and engineering has been invested in it. It will remain the only halo for its lifecycle,” van Meel also concluded.

According to some recent reports, the BMW German based carmaker might be planning a hardcore supercar in a joint venture with McLaren, whose styling and creativity is close to the Bavarian`s constructor ideology.

The report comes from CAR magazine and states that the joint venture is planning to introduce a supercar which would be unveiled at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, eventually reaching dealerships worldwide in 2019.

Each carmaker will have its own signature. McLaren for instance, would incorporate the same carbon fiber monocoque also seen on the upcoming McLaren 650S, while BMW will take care of the powertrain under the hood.

We might be talking here about a 4.0-liter V8 engine, along with two turbos and two electric motors, which would output a total of 750 horsepower.

Surely that BMW won`t just stick to fitting a powerful engine, as it would also come up with its own language cues. We might see an astonishing and ultimate fighting machine, that would indeed revolutionize the supercar segment for good. Let`s not forget what the same joint venture did with the McLaren F1, designed and powered by the same BMW and McLaren.

So far, the details list is rather scarce, but we should be able to find out more in the upcoming period. After all, the news is too hot to let it sleep away.

While BMW has a proper racing heritage the 6 Series is not one of the models that contributed much to it.

The car we have here may change things a bit as it represents the result of a project destined to prep the car for GT1 racing regulations.

The car starts out as a BMW 6 Series which then goes to specialist tuner Alpina to become the B6. Should that particular car be lucky enough, it might just end up being turned into an Alpina B6 GT3 which will see all of its life as a racer.

That is unless it ends up in the hands of the guys over at Aurora Racing Designs which will turn it into a GT1 spec racing car to comply with the new rules there. “The guys” are former McLaren engineer Nicholas Galbraith and former Alpina racing designer Andreas Puschel.

Going from GT3 to GT1 is a logical step for the car and Aurora Racing have taken over this project in an attempt not to affect Alpina’s customer GT3 racing program. The experience of the people behind Aurora Racing Designs will see the B6 GT1 going through some serious aerodynamic, structural and suspension changes in order to make it competitive.
