The BMW is yet again the leader in the US on the luxury segment, managing to bit up Mercedes-Benz, as it had record sales in June.

The BMW luxury automaker is strengthening its position as the leader on the luxury market, having a 12 percent increase in the US, increase which was possible due to the huge selling of the 5-Series sedan, with around 7,940 units to be delivered.

Its main competitor, the Mercedes-Benz luxury automaker managed to sell 26,505 units in June, with only an 8 percent increase, a positioned insured by the E-Class sedan, with 6,500 units.

With these numbers ahead, the BMW carmaker is maintaining its leading position for the first half of the year, managing to sell 157,382 units in the US alone, while the Mercedes-Benz automaker sold 151,624 vehicles.

As for the other carmakers taking their share on the luxury segment, we are talking about Lexus, the Toyota`s subsidiary, which scored a 10 percent increase in June, with a total of 23,518 to be sold.

Audi carmaker also managed to increase its sales in the US, up to 23 percent in June, with 16,867 units sold in the last month alone.

The BMW German based luxury automaker is still the worldwide leader, especially in the US, for the luxury segment, as it managed to increase its sales on the last month.

The BMW managed an increase in the luxury sales since it offered a lot of compact luxury vehicles at very reasonable prices in the US.

Thus, in the month of May alone, the German based carmaker managed to increase its sales on the luxury market up to 17%, with a reached 81% for the SUV market, leading to a total of 29,602 units.

The BMW automaker is followed by Mercedes-Benz, the former leader, which only managed a 7.7% increase, due to its E and the S Classes, reaching a total of 26,617 units.

The figures are definitely into the account of BMW, which became the leader in the US, for the luxury segment, exceeding its rival Daimler with more than 2,000 autos to be sold.

More than that, since the US market was fairly dominated by the Lexus brand, the Toyota`s brand also succeeded in turning the odds against the Daimler company, with a 21% increase in luxury sales, reaching a total of 26,921 units.

The BMW 3 Series was always a key part of the Bavarian company’s success but the F30 will have more of a commercial burden on its shoulders than any of its predecessors.

BMW needs the 3 Series to sell well because it is one of the biggest “bread and butter” offerings they have on the market and it will be a major part of this and next year’s fight for leadership.

The leadership in question is that of the U.S. market sales for luxury cars and since Lexus is out of the picture due to recent events, it’ll be a straight fight between our favorite Germans and the ones at Mercedes.

This year it seems like BMW are going to enjoy the crown and with the boost in sales of the F30 3 Series it should come as close to certain as possible.

What is going to be trickier is to see the same boost turn into some serious volume over 2012 as Mercedes’ avalanche of very new models comes in.

A bit unusually, BMW is not very certain on what to do with the same F30 3 Series Estate we covered just a few days ago.

Making it more of a practical option seems right to help sales but the desperately low demand they’ve been seeing with the E90 model isn’t encouraging at all.

At the moment, with results for the three first quarters of 2011, BMW leads Mercedes in sales with 177.679 units to 170.058 and predictions are looking better and better.

The same applies for the first quarter of 2012 but it is then where the sales figures are going to be closer and closer as the F30 3 Series will have lost some of its initial appeal.

By then, the big boys BMW X3 and X5 will have had to toughen up their selling points and, together with a possible F30 3 Series diesel, keep the lead where it matters.
