I will admit it; I’m bored with the BMW M3. Mostly with the E92 coupe version and the way instead of bringing out the F30, we keep getting stuff like this.

Slated as one of the last versions of this generation’s M3 to ever be made (could it finally be the case?) it’s getting a limited run of 100 units, all of which are aimed at the UK market.

It is named the Frozen Silver, it delivers a rather bland look and it is actually here to symbolize something quite important to the Bavarian brand.

The E92 BMW M3 Frozen Silver is supposed to be part of the celebration of BMW M GmbH’s 40th anniversary.

Allegedly it offers potential buyers some extra optional equipment for free with the purchase of the car at a little over its standard pricing.

Those addons include the bespoke Frozen Silver metallic paint, dark chromed exhaust, side gills and kidney surrounds and something they call High-gloss Shadowline exterior trim.

The interior is a little more generous. We get Black Novillo and Palladium leather with contrasting stitching on the seats and armrests.

There’s also an Alcantara wrapped steering wheel, some carbon fiber trim and a plaque to showcase the limited edition factor.

Otherwise the car is completely standard in terms of performance and underpinnings. The final issue to discus is the pricing.

The E92 BMW M3 Frozen Silver costs £9.000 on top of the standard coupe and all that extra stuff we’ve talked about costs £4.000.

It’s not a bad deal but I’d feel a little disappointed to known my new performance car would be outdated almost immediately after delivery.

Though apparently focused on their return to the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show and their two main presences there, the hybrid 5 Series and the i Range, BMW knows the importance of the LA Motor Show.

A lovely showcase at the American motor show in Los Angeles features the 2012 F10 BMW M5, with added goodness of a couple of special paint options being included in the lineup offering.

The new paint finishes are called Frozen Silver and Frozen Gray and they are similar to the ones they sold some limited edition M3s over this and the past year.

No pun intended on the brand new F30 BMW 3 Series but the F10 M5 is considerably more interesting and though a little inconvenient, the new paint looks brilliant.

Further more, BMW plans to introduce the new Frozen Silver finish into the premium paint offerings, thus making it available to all F10 M5 purchases not just those of limited edition stamping.

Mind you, a price of around 5000 dollars for the special exterior skin of the BMW M5 will still keep a shade of exclusivity.

A new paint finish is nice but the 4.4 liter twin turbo V8 engine that can develop 560 horsepower and 502 lb-ft of torque is what really gets your heart going.

Accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in 4.4 seconds (or less by some accounts) and a top speed of 155 mph or even 190 mph when in M Driver’s Package.

As a last hurrah of the current generation BMW 3 Series, the M3 is still in production and some lucky Americans are about to receive a new limited edition of it.

It’s called the BMW M3 Coupe Competition Edition and, much like other previous such things, it will only be available in no more than 40 units.

The new special edition is sporting a very “cool” Frozen Silver paint finish and some even cooler mods to make it stand out from the crowd.

To begin with, there’s a small disappointment as the engine is the same 4.0 liter V8 engine with the same 414 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque as the “regular” M3.

That said, prospective owners will be glad to find out that it is actually quicker from 0 to 62 with a time of just 4.5 seconds. This has been achieved thanks to the new wheels and tires (same as the M3 GTS) as well as the M button receiving some more aggressive programming.

The 2012 BMW M3 Coupe Competition Edition also sits lower to the ground by 10 mm and it comes with one of the finest gear head trimmed interiors possible.

Black Novillo leather upholstery covers most of what you can see and the contrasting Palladium Silver accents make for quite the visual treat.

A 2012 BMW M3 Coupe Competition Edition comes with an alcantara covered steering wheel and plenty of carbon fiber used for the dashboard and center console.

All in all it seems like some tasty treats have been added to the mix but adding them together with the limited edition factor means that BMW will ask for a return of $81.060 for the car.

It sounds like a pretty steep deal, especially when considering that the regular BMW M3 costs a lot less as it comes in at around 60.000 dollars.
