The special visitor in question is none other than Katarina Witt, former ice skating figure and two-time Olympic champion at that. Now that you know who the visitor is and what her background is you’ve probably guessed why she’d want to visit BMW Group’s Energy and Environmental Test Center.

In case you’re not sure, it’s because this particular Test Center, can, at the push of a button, take you to any place in the world. Well, at least as far as the weather is concerned.

So BMW Group’s best looking ambassador, at least to my mind, had some fun over there as within a few hours of photo shooting she enjoyed a summer’s heat and a nice breeze from “driving” a Z4 and also had the opportunity to do a bit of skating next to a 1 Series they were testing in Alaskan weather conditions.

Katarina Witt greeted the Manager of Efficient Dynamics at the BMW Group, Dr. Johannes Liebl, during her visit to the BMW Group’s Energy and Environmental Test Center and he also gave a few details on the importance of the facility but mainly there was some fun involved.

Besides the climatic wind tunnel, which can reproduce speeds of up to 250 km/h, temperature (from minus 10°C to plus 45°C), sun, wind and humidity under simulated conditions, there are also four other thermal wind tunnels and test chambers in the ETC facility. This comes in handy as the company’s efficiency grows in terms of cold and hot weather testing, no longer does it take weeks between testing in Dubai and in Norway as that timetable can now be fit into a period of 8 hours all of which are spent in northern Munich.

I have to say that I was really missing a BMW concept but this time, I forgot the thing that it passed a long time since I saw the last BMW concept because this one is very cool too. The designer of this concept is Seungmo Lin which is a graduate student at the Pforzheim University from Germany.

The idea of this concept has start after the designer find out that people were asking about the importance of the hybrid cars and also that people were asking what is Efficient Dynamics so he wanted to answer at those questions by making this concept.

You should know that this BMW Sequence GT features an engine at each wheel which may be the reason that why is looking like this at the front side. I have to say that it looks very similar to a bug or something like this I gues.

Here we got some really cool news namely that the is going to be built a BMW 320d with the Efficient Dynamics system on it so that this powerful car of BMW is going to have very few CO2 emissions namely 109 grams per kilometer.

Also, this BMW 320d Efficient Dynamics also gets an extra 20 horsepower making it to develop a total of 195 horsepower. So you see that the objective wasn’t to make this car much powerful but they still did that making to feel like there is still a difference comparing to the non ED version.

If you don’t know if you should buy such a car or not, I will tell you that this car makes you pay a lot of few taxes when you buy such a car and it also has some bigger performances the non ED version. Also, it is said that it is going to cost £27,820 and will be launched this year.

Word’s on the street that BMW would introduce a new Z2 concept at the Frankfurt Motor show in September. Although there were whispers that BMW abandoned the development of the Z2 as iMotor reported: “Everyone in the motoring media seems to be talking about this car but it’s not on my product plan and that lists the forthcoming models for the next 10 years” quoting its source, seems like BMW Z2 will have a BMW convertible top and will hit the market earlier.

According to AutoZeitung, BMW is working on the BMW Z2 roadster that will be based on the new 1-Series platform. Z2 roadster will have a soft-top that will fold into the trunk. Under the hood BMW is planning the 120hp 1.6 litre 4-cylinder engine, and two turbocharged engines ranging from 175hp to 211hp.

Configured to allow front-, rear- or all-wheel drive, the Z2 is likely to feature the German automaker’s latest fuel-saving Efficient Dynamics technology, including a possible plug-in hybrid powertrain. Rumors say that BMW Z2 could get a sequential transmission borrowed from BMW’s high-end motorcycles. The BMW Z2 will weigh in at UNDER 1,000 kg, weight being kept low by using composite materials in key parts, while Active Aerodynamics (adjustable front spoiler and intake slats) should offer high downforce when necessary and low drag the rest of the time.
