Shortly after we talked about the new 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo engine, the Germans from BMW officially announce that the unit in question comes to the U.S. market later this year and replaces the naturally aspirated 3.0-liter six-cylinder propeller.

The new 2.0-liter turbo engine develops around 245 horsepower and the Germans say that it’s a good replacement to the 3.0-liter engine already equipping the a wide range of models such as the 328i, 528i, X3, Z4 or the smaller 128i Coupe.

The new engine proposed by the Germans packs the high-pressure direct-injection system with a Valvetronic intake control but more about the engine’s specifications you can find in the article mentioned above. Regarding the models which will adopt the new 2.0-liter unit, there is most likely to be the same ones we told you, the models which equips the 3.0-liter engine, at least a major part of them. According to the Germans, the new 2.0-liter engine is an optimized version and offers a better fuel consumption.

In an interview for the Germans at Auto, Motor und Sport (AMS), the BMW’s development chief, Dr. Klaus Draeger stated that a two-cylinder engine might be developed soon. The reason is that a two-cylinder engine will fit way better the compact models of the brand compared to a hybrid system. The reasoning is very simple, for a compact model a two-cylinder engine will offer better performance and figures than a hybrid powertrain.

Draeger said that the 1 Series and 3 Series model might benefit from the new two-cylinder engine with 500 cubic centimeters per cylinder. He also added that the new engines will be able to develop somewhere between 80 and 100 horsepower, an amount of power found very good by the German official.

The two-cylinder engine that might enter the production will come with another valuable feature beside the improved fuel cosumption, more exactly, with a low CO2 emissions level, an important element for all the manufacturers nowadays.

Spyker revealed new and official details on the engines deal between BMW and Saab. There were some rumors that the German manufacturer will share some engines with the people at Saab but now it got official. From the last press release issued by Spyker we find that the discussions are advanced.

the next Saab 9-3 is rumored to be the first model from the Swedish manufacturer to benefit from the new BMW engines but the information is unofficial for now. By far the most important rumors is the introduction of a new BMW engine, developed firstly for the future Saab models but following to be introduced on BMW models in the future. The engine in question is a new 222-horsepower propeller that is under development for now.

The final talk about this engine deal is scheduled for Wednesday, so, we can expect more important details to be revealed within this week.
