The news with the upcoming Spyder variant of the BMW i8 are not fresh, the carmaker already sending the model in previous tests. Now we have the chance of seeing the cool convertible in a fresh batch of spy photos while performing in the snow.

BMW is planning to introduce the all-new Spyder i8 on the market sometime next year, along with the facelifted BMW i8 Coupe, but until then, it has to make sure that everything is in the right place.

So here we are with new shots and fresh details with the new i8 Spyder. Unlike the previous shots, this test mule seen here is wearing the soft top and is coming with some new details concerning the body style.

There are some visible changes at the exterior – the updated front and which is the same as in the facelifted coupe, redesigned front and rear bumpers and others – the model being also expected to come with some improvements in the engine department as well.

According to new reports, the BMW i8 Spyder is likely to be equipped with a high-performance lithium ion-battery, with improved electric range, just like the facelifted i8 Coupe. The model will also have more power along with the latest technology onboard, like semi-autonomous driving also seen on other high-end models, like the 2017 BMW 5-Series or 2016 BMW 7-Series.

We are not sure if the carmaker will officially lift the veils of the new i8 Coupe and Spyder at any of the most important auto events of the year. Some rumors state that it is likely to see it next January, at the 2018 NAIAS, in Detroit.

With so many bold projects up-ahead, we almost forgot that the German based carmaker BMW is also preparing a hot convertible variant of the outstanding i8 Coupe, and that because the upcoming i8 Spyder was recently seen without its roof in a series of first spy photos, released by Carscoops via CarPix.

The making of the BMW i8 Spyder would prove to be a successful project from the start, with different rendering artists all over the world already envisioning their own interpretation of the model. And making a comparison with the below first shots, we tend to believe they were right one hundred percent.

The standard BMW i8 and the i8 Spyder are going to look alike, coming with rather the same body styling except of course for the folding metal roof, the one seen on the McLaren, with a sort of a targa-style, possible stored inside the car.

Also, recent rumors had it that it would have to do more with the i8 Vision Future Concept, revealed back in 2012, meaning full height door windows and a window placed between the rear buttresses.

Also, the new BMW i8 Spyder will also share the styling cues of the facelifted version of the future i8, which would be minor, yet would improve its exterior aspect and make it more aggressive and appealing.

As for the gadgetries inside, BMW will still keep the suite of high end features also seen on the current i8 and other luxury models, including the BMW`s latest iDrive system, new touchscreen and gesture functions and so on.

In the engine department, the BMW i8 and i8 Spyder will also come with a better battery pack and new power, squeezed from the same conventional 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine and electric motor. We should be able to witness their official arrival on the market sometime in 2018.

The BMW i8 plug-in hybrid has been around for some time now, the model representing the carmaker`s most advanced engineering in terms of performance and low emissions. And we have always believed that an i8 convertible would also be a second hit.

The dreams are about to come true, as a test mule with what seems to be a BMW i8 Spyder has been recently caught on a spy video while getting its testing rounds at the Ring.

A BMW i8 Spyder rumor mill has been around for years, with tens of renderings to showcase the future model in terms of design and performance under the hood. And rendering artists like theophiluschin, one of the most famous in the world, has indeed foreseen how a future model would look like.

The BMW i8 Spyder test mule seen here is wearing the same design as the coupe sibling, except for the chopped roof. And it would be quite a pity if it would come with other styling changes.

In the engine department, the BMW i8 Spyder will likely borrow the present plug-in hybrid`s powertrain, meaning a conventional 1.5-liter petrol burner attached to an electric motor and a 7.1 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

This would result an impressive 362 horsepower, which is enough to deliver a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.0 seconds, just like the i8 in its general form. The range would also stand at around 530 km, which is also quite astonishing.

As for its official release, we should expect it in 2022 or 2023, however, don’t be disappointed, we might see it on the streets much sooner! Meanwhile, enjoy the video with the BMW i8 Spyder!

Rumors with the upcoming of the BMW i8 SPyder have been circulating over the web for some time, the chopped-off version being officially previewed as the BMW i Vision Future Interaction Concept, last month at the 2016 CES show, in Las Vegas.

According to Handelsblatt, a German newspaper that is known for its concise reports and fresh news, the BMW i8 Spyder would be finally released on the market somewhere next year, under the I15 codename. More than that, BMW CEO Harald Kruger has also confirmed the arrival of the BMW i8 Spyder.

In terms of visuals, the future BMW i8 Spyder will come with rather the same language design as the standard i8 sibling, featuring a semi-transparent hood, rakish windscreen, integrated spoiler and an interesting open top design.

The future i8 Spyder will also come with the cutting-edge technology, advanced driving capabilities and impressive performance under the hood.

Speaking about performance, the BMW i8 Spyder will use the same 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder engine backed by an electric motor, the hybrid powertrain being hooked to a lithium-ion battery pack. The overall power would stand at 362 horsepower.

This would be enough to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds, at a topping of 250 km/h. The present i8 returns 2.1 L / 100 km/h, so we might expect the same figures for the Spyder version.

BMW has denied the rumors according to which the upcoming and long-expected BMW i8 Spyder would arrive at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show or 2016 Detroit Auto Show, later on this year.

There are a number a reason why the long-rumored model was put on hold, the carmaker explaining that the high-demand of the already existing BMW i8 does not allowed it to continue testing the i8 Spyder.

More than that, the BMW i8 Spyder is supposed to be the direct competitor of the future Tesla Model i5, and until the latter arrives on the market, the fresh hypercar would just have to wait until 2017 or beginning of 2018.

The BMW i8 Spyder might be based on the Vision Future Interaction launched at the 2016 CES, and is supposed to come with the same 1.5-liter petrol and an electric motor, which will generate more powerful than the regular i8, meaning around 362 horsepower.

The BMW i8 Spyder will underpin the same carbon fiber composites, which means that the car will suffer many chassis changes which compensate the removal of the hard-top.

The BMW i8 Spyder is back into the spotlights again, the model being decided for an official unveiling at the 2015 CES, next January.

In a new interview, Harald Kruger, BMW Chairman, has declared that the i8 Spyder would be revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show, in January 2016, the model being based on the Concept Spyder, revealed back in 2013.

There are no technical nor design specifications at the moment, but rumors have it that the BMW i8 Spyder would come with the same hybrid powertrain under the hood.

We are looking here at the same 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder, backed by an electric motor and lithium-ion battery, developing 357 horsepower. The acceleration would be done in the same 4.4 seconds, at a topping of 250 km/h.

Most importantly, the battery of the i8 Spyder will pack “alterations”, in order to provide the model with an additional of 27 km mile range.

In terms of styling, the BMW i8 Spyder will come with a chopped roof, the convertible still keeping the rest of the body characteristics as the i8 standard model. Inside, the cabin will be adorned with the latest technology in terms of safety.

There are no details concerning the arrival of the BMW i8 Spyder on the market, but close sources to BMW state that it might arrive somewhere next year.

BMW i8 was first unveiled in the second half of 2013 and it was just a matter of time until the carmaker would unveil a convertible version of the most powerful plug-in hybrid ever built.

The convertible would be called the Spyder and it would be based on the i8 Spyder concept the carmaker built about three years ago. The good news is that Harald Kruger, BMW Chairman, has also confirmed that such a model would be just around the corner.

Kruger also stated in an interview that the BMW i8 Spyder would emerge on the market pretty soon, just as the i8 was delivered in the first semester of 2014, after its official launch in late 2013.

Chances are that the upcoming i8 Spyder might look exactly the same as the i8 Spyder concept, coming with a semi-transparent hood, open top design, rakish windscreen and integrated spoiler. The model might also sport a shortened wheelbase.

The BMW German based luxury automaker has recently announced that the future of the X7 has been already decided, while ruling out any chances concerning the launching an i8 Spyder or the 7-Series derivatives.

First, the BMW manufacturer will soon launch the X7 model, that would stand right above the X5 model and will not be based on the 7-Series flagship sedan.

But the future BMW X7 will be standing on the platform also shared by the future 5-Series, competing thus against the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class and the new Range Rover.

The BMW X7 will be wider enough for seven passengers and will be launched on the market in late 2017 or early 2018 and will be introduced as the 2018 X7 model.

Secondly, the carmaker also stated that the i8 Spyder and the 7-Series with its derivatives will not be manufactured, the way its rival Mercedes-Benz did with the fresh S-Class.

The reason for not introducing the new i8 Spyder remains unknown, while in case of the 7-Series, the company does not want to launch other versions “outside of standard and long-wheelbase” versions.

The BMW i8 plug-in hybrid super car is the most anticipated car of 2014, especially now when a convertible version might hit the jackpot.

A convertible i8 was shown off when BMW i8 was still a concept car; other than that, Bimmerpost stated that the i8 hybrid might have received the official approval for the production. It is due for late 2015, with a two year late arrival after the release of the coupe.

The car provides 231 horsepower to the rear wheels having a six-speed automatic transmission, and with a 131-horse motor to the front drive.

Theophilus Chin, a well-known designer which uses to render future models, decided to imagine how the Spyder version of the BMW i8 will look like.

With the plug-in hybrid model revealed at Frankfurt, the open-top model could debut in 2014 and is very likely to be already in the final production stages.

Besides the new roof, the BMW i8 Spyder will use the same hybrid powertrain which consists of a 1.5-liter gasoline unit producing 231 horsepower and 320Nm of torque but also an electric motor offering an extra 131 horses.

The combined output will be 362 horses and 570Nm of torque with a six-speed automatic transmission to handle the power. The 0-100 km/h sprint is expected to be possible in about 4,5 seconds with a similar driving range of 500 kilometers in hybrid model. Fuel economy figures will be also identical at 2,5 liters/100km or 113mpg UK.

If the 2014 BMW i8 Coupe starts at $135,000, the open-top model could hit the $150,000 mark.
