BMW released additional details on the Concept X5 eDrive, a prototype revealed for the first time last year but ready for a comeback at this year’s edition of the New York Auto Show.

In fact, we talk about a revised concept which now benefits from 20-inch alloy wheels, new roof rails, a Silverflake metallic finish and special Ivory White leather upholstery inside.

The interior also stands out thanks to the blue ambient lighting, “eDrive” logos for the headrests, piano black trim and contrast stitching.

Power is offered by the same plug-in hybrid powertrain, namely a four-cylinder petrol engine producing 245 horses and an electric motor for extra 95 horsepower. The 0-100 km/h sprint is possible in 7 seconds with average fuel economy figures of 3,8 liters/100 km or 61,8 mpg US.

The German prototype is able to run on electricity alone for about 30 kilometers at speeds up to 120 km/h. We are looking forward to see the revised BMW Concept X5 eDrive at the New York Auto Show this month.

For a while now, the new European regulation on CO2 emissions have been a sore point for BMW, as by 2020 they will have to average 95 g/km.

As this target is almost impossible to reach while still keeping true to BMW’s motto, the German car maker decided to use electric solutions on more models.

“Electrification will be a central thread in what we do, be it plug-in hybrid, hybrid or full electrification. The i8 shows what’s possible even below 50 g/km, but we will also offer all standard models with entry-level electrification. We will try to use the modular kit developed for the i3 and i8 on a kit basis.”

While some might cringe at the thought of an electric 4 Series, we should remember that both the i3 and i8 models were lauded as great vehicles. This is a testament that both full electric and hybrid vehicles produced by BMW have the same potential as any other vehicle. Let’s just hope that is enough to reach the CO2 emissions limit until 2020.

If you always wanted to have a BMW 1 series yet its less eco-friendly features made a serious turn off, things are about to change, with the German car maker announcing some welcomed adjustments on this chapter.

Sources from BMW Group confirmed that a new version of 1 series is currently under construction, the final purpose being the one of diminishing CO2 emissions.

The eco friendly BMW unit will only generate 50 g of CO2 per kilometer, be enhanced with a hybrid propulsion system and have front-wheel-drive. It should be launched together with the new generation and will wear the name of Efficient Dynamics.

Given the positive impact that such an economical car will have on the overall sales of the compact range, we cannot help but predict a bright future for BMW. The guys from Autocar go even further when suggesting that Bavarian Motors might actually be planning a whole range of Efficient Dynamics units, with some other interesting models, apart from the hybrid 1 series.

As you may already know, the European Union is currently forcing all car makers to bring their units to an average emission of 95 g CO2 per km, by 2020. The 50 g of Efficient Dynamics should definitely make a significant success!

Mainly trying to reduce the production costs or for any other reason, the Germans from BMW will create a new hybrid powertrain that will be shared with the British sub-brand Mini. According to the first details, the new hybrid powertrain will use of course the electric engine and the 1.6-liter petrol unit able to develop 122 horsepower, a unit that is currently under the bonnet of Mini Cooper.

However, as we currently talk just based on few assumptions, the incoming three-cylinder engine which is under development now might be the right one for the new hybrid system.

The new hybrid system which will be built together with the specialists from Getrag should equip one of the BMW models in range but also the a model within the British manufacturer range, most probably Mini Countryman. A previously signed agreement with Getrag will ensure the transmission system that is needed for the new hybrid powertrain.

Here we got some awesome official news and I tried not to tell you this through the title of this article so that I will tell you in the content of this post. Yes, as you can see in the title, BMW has some plans in the U.S. market with the BMW ActiveE.

The first moves, BMW made with the Mini E but I don’t want to talk about that car right now. You should already know that BMW is planning to build the BMW ActiveE because some time ago we also talked about that so for more details just make a simple search on this blog.

What I want to tell you is that BMW officially reported that they are going to sell some units of BMW ActiveE next year and they are going to build in U.S. more than 200 units which is awesome for the beginning.

Yes, we have confirmed that the BMW 5 Series is going to come with the hybrid version of it at the Geneva Auto Show. What we need are not pictures because I guess it will look just like the normal BMW 5 Series but we need to know many details.

Now I would usually tell you what I know about this car but this time I know nothing and most important of what I don’t know are the details about the hybrid system and also the release date of this BMW 5 Series hybrid version but I think that we will soon find out these too.

I have to tell you something very interesting namely that the BMW 5 Series and also the BMW 7 Series represents 50% of sales from BMW so this hybrid will be more than very important to those 50% of people that are buying a BMW vehicle.

I consider this news very bad and awful and not because I would like to buy a BMW ActiveHybrid 7 but for those people who intend to buy a BMW ActiveHybrid 7. Why? Because I like to consider that we are all equals and with the news that first will be available only for VIPs, it makes me feel bad.

Anyway, if you are a VIP this should be very great news especially if you are a BMW fan, now you’re able to get your own BMW ActiveHybrid 7 but I doubt that a VIP would have enough time to read blogs.

Anyway, I have to remind you that this is not a full electric car but it is still doing a very big favor to our planet because it is using electric engines but these are combined with a fuel consumption engine so that even if it is a hybrid, it will be very powerful.

Autoweek announced the new target of BMW: to sell 1000 hybrid BMW cars represented by BMW ActiveHybrid X6 and BMW ActiveHybrid 7. Both of previous mentioned hybrid models were unveiled last month. These 2 models are about to be presented at the Frankfurt Autoshow. I also found a very cool video that presents you the 7 series (the non hybrid version of the car from the first picture below). You can watch it here.

BMW X6 ActiveHybrid has three ways to drive it: only with the electric mode at low speeds, with combustion at high speeds or combined (witch I think it’s the best choose). BMW X6 ActiveHybrid reaches 60 km/h on the electric mode.

BMW ActiveHybrid 7 is powered by a 4.4 liter engine with a 3-phase synchronized with an electric motor developing 455 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque with an 8 speed transmission.

I think there is no doubt,  BMW will sell more than 1000 hybrid models in USA, these two models of BMW hybrids look  amazing.
