After the official launch of the BMW 2-Series Gran Tourer at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, it was just a matter of time until the German carmaker would unveil the xDrive version of the gorgeous family car. We are now witnessing the presence of the long-expected BMW 220d xDrive Gran Tourer.

We are all aware of the strong personality and great qualities that the 2-Series Gran Tourer is coming with, but the 220d xDrive Gran Tourer is adding a few more in terms of safety reasons, powertrain under the hood, as well as driving dynamics and fuel efficiency.

First, the BMW 220d xDrive Gran Tourer completes the 2-Series lineup and complements it with the same characteristics in terms of design and size, the model standing at 4,556 mm long, 1,800 mm wide and 1,608 mm high, offering a lot of space inside both for passengers as well as for their luggage. The overall cargo capacity, with the rear seats being folded, stands at a good 1,905 liters.

Still keeping the proportions inside, the 220d xDrive Gran Tourer comes with a lot of gizmos, a lot of them being oriented towards children`s fun and amusing, amongst which one stands out from the crowd: it is all about the “myKIDIO” application, available only in Germany for the moment, which gives children endless opportunities in terms of entertainment throughout a long journey – cartoons, educational films, audio and video books and other fun to learn materials.

Otherwise, the cabin of the BMW 220d xDrive Gran Tourer still keeps the high-class atmosphere, complemented by the M leather steering wheel, the M Sport seats, the M Aerodynamics package or the BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line.

A long journey on heavy weather or road conditions requires a good and high-performance powertrain under the hood, and the BMW 220d xDrive makes the best of it: it comes equipped with five turbo engines with three- and four-cylinder configuration, all with the all-wheel drive system. But the best part comes right now: all of them are extremely fuel-efficient, coming with combined 6.4-3.9 L/100 km, while the combined CO2 emissions stand between 149 – 104 g/km. Add the BMW EfficientDynamics package and you will have the journey of your time with less fuel expenses.

Bad news for BMW FWD model fans, as the Bavarian carmaker will not bring the BMW 2-Series Active Tourer and the 2-Series Gran Tourer in the United States. The company has not made an official statement on that matter, but a recent report from Automotive News Europe states the situation.

According to the report, the two FWD models are considered too small for the North American market, as the Americans like the genuine bigger models, like the X5 and X6 SUVs. Apart from that, it is difficult to state if drivers across the sea might or might not embrace the idea of having them there.

A reason to choose the 2-Series Active Tourer as a genuine BMW vehicle, is that inside, the model offers enough space just as the larger X vehicles, coming with 4,342 mm long, 1,800 mm wide and 1,555 mm high.

With the BMW 2-Series Active Tourer to be the company`s first car to come with a front-wheel drive, the model is also the first to be fitted with a three-cylinder unit, which also allows to efficiently use the space inside.

On the other hand, the BMW 2-Series Gran Tourer is based on the same UKL Platform also used on the other BMW vehicles, coming as well with a front-wheel drive layout and leaving room inside for the third seat row. The model is actually an extended version of the previous one, coming with a lot of features just like the 2-Series Active Tourer.

Just like the Active Tourer, the BMW 2-Series Gran Tourer is fitted with a wide array of three- and four-cylinder units, closely followed by an xDrive version as well. The first to start with is the 219i, which will underpin a 1.5-liter TwinPower three-cylinder unit, developing 136 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque.

Next, the 220i version is coming with the 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder, outputting 192 horsepower and 280 Nm of torque, jumping from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.6 seconds. Other engines follow, like the three diesels, set up for the 216d, which received the 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder, with 116 horsepower and 270 Nm of torque, the 218d with the 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder, as well as the 220d xDrive, with the same 2.0-liter unit, which develops 190 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque.

The latest edition from BMW, the gorgeous BMW 2-Series Gran Tourer, is ending up in our news again, this time the family car being rendered in an M2 version. The renderings are signed by the famous X-Tomi Design.

We are more than 100 percent sure that BMW will never launch an M2 of the 2-Series Gran Coupe, as this particular model is already coming with a wide array of trim levels, but let`s take advantage of this imagery exercise and admire the M2 renderings, as they have a lot to tell about the version.

The BMW German based carmaker is currently working on a lot of vehicles that would revive some of its important model lineup, like the 1-Series, the 3-Series, the 5-Series, as well as the 2-Series, concentrating its attention towards the 2-Series Gran Tourer model.

We already know that the BMW 2-Series Gran Tourer F46 will be first unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, but some recent renderings, showcasing the model in a seven-seater body style, has been released by the famous X-Tomi Design. The renderings are revealing a future 7-seater Gran Tourer, given the fact that the upcoming model is long enough to sport a third seat row.

In case it will be launched, and rumors have it that there are big chances for this to happen, the BMW 2-Series Gran Tourer 7-seater will resemble its stock model, coming with the same UKL platform, with rather the same design cues, longer wheelbase, as well as a reduced sloping line.

But the best part of the BMW 2-Series Tourer 7-seater will be the additional space at the back, as the third seat row ca be folded for luggage or other children`s stuff.

Under the hood, the BMW 2-Series Gran Tourer 7-seater will be fitted with the same engines, meaning a choice of three- or four-cylinder units, while a plug-in hybrid will also emerge on the market, as expected. The performance and the pricing details are scarce for now, but we will be able to find out more in the upcoming period.

What I have always loved about BMW is that it is on a constant change, managing to keep the high standards, no matter the segment involved. It is also the case of the next-gen 2-Series Gran Tourer, which was recently caught on shots by spy photographers, a clear indication that the company is trying to strengthen the 2-Series lineup.

After seeing the 3-Series hybrid and the 5-Series models at work, carrying out different tests before their final production, it is now the 2-Series` turn to be seen in China, before emerging into the market at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.

We are talking here about the upcoming 2-Series Gran Tourer 7-seater which will come with a longer wheelbase, thanks to the UKL platform, also seen on the Active Tourer, with the two model to resemble in terms of design. The resemblance can be seen at the front and rear, where the window graphics is promising a lot in terms of visuals.

Longer wheelbase means wider space inside for the BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe, with the possibility of folding the third row, in case more space is needed for luggage.

Under the hood, BMW might be using the same units seen on its other segments, like the three- or four-cylinder units, followed, of course, by a hybrid version. More info will be announced later on.
