The BMW 1 Series M Coupe is going to be produced in limited numbers and the recently arrived F20 1 Series lineup doesn’t have a replacement model ready for it yet.

Yet may be just the right term to use when mentioning it since those cheeky spy photographers have recently caught the follow up model of the 1 Series M135i.

It’s been rumored around for some time now and it’s definitely an eagerly awaited car but what really matters here is just what the recently spied model can lead up to.

As I’m sure some of you remember, the E81 1 Series also had one of these models brought along as a range topper, just before the 1 M Coupe came along.

We can only hope BMW will make a followup model to their most exciting car at the moment but meanwhile let’s grab a closer look at the M135i.

The engine is still the brilliant inline six cylinder 3.0 liter twin turbo we’ve seen in other models. Some 320-330 horsepower will be available and torque is roughly in the same margins.

Unlike the previous model, this one comes with a few different ideas. For starters, there’s word on more body styles available, which can always be fun.

Secondly, this 2013 BMW M135i has something of the xDrive all wheel drive system about it. What this means is that the Bavarians are really expanding availability of products on their small hatchback.

As for the spyshots, they pretty much speak for themselves and are finally of the rare variety that feature very little camouflage to cover up its specific details.

Tom Ford, renown British motoring journalist and TV presenter managed to achieve a record breaking run in terms of vehicle autonomy by managing a 1013 mile trip on a single tank of diesel.

The car he used for this feat was a BMW E90 320d and the journey was destined to take Tom Ford from the UK to Munich and back, but unfortunately the car needed a refill back at Lille.

The fact that he didn’t manage to complete the trip is a bit disappointing but this is still an amazing achievement by distance in itself.

There’s more too, Tom Ford stated that he did not use the air conditioning but he also didn’t do a completely economical run using techniques such as coasting, or driving deliberately slowly for the trip. The trip was covered in yesterday’s Sunday Times newspaper.

BMW can be proud and owners of the E90 320d who must have known the car was capable of such range. Biggest reason for the good news is that the car achieved figures of 75.9 mpg UK (63.2 mpg US or 3.7lt/100km), and never went below 65 mpg UK (54.1 mpg US or 4.4 lt/100km) for the entire trip. The overall figures for Tom Ford and the BMW 320d come in at an average speed of 59.3mph (95.4km/h) and 68.9mpg UK (57.4 mpg US or 4.1 lt/100km).

All things considered, if you’re a bit less careful you should be able to achieve at least 700-800 miles on one tank which would easily cover a medium sized commute for a month on a single tank.

It’s only been about three weeks since we’ve had confirmation of the first BMW series-production of an electric-vehicle coming to the market with the launch of the Megacity Vehicle, scheduled for 2013.

Back then, BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer stated that this BMW will move the bar and set a new industry tone as the Megacity Vehicle will be significantly lighter than conventional cars and, in terms of sustainability, will set a new standard across the entire value-added chain.

Since these claims still stand, here are some new ones. The BMW Megacity will be a full five seater vehicle sized about the same as a Golf with an unusual layout for a BMW, an electric car or pretty much most cars in general. The Megacity will be rear engined and rear wheel drive.

According to BMW the Megacity will be a revolution for electric vehicles and it will also have some of the company’s mainstream touches. The new electric car is set to have a range of 160 miles per charge but no mention on the charging time has been done.

The BMW Megacity will share most of the drivetrain with the BMW ActiveE concept.
