Not that we’re petty or anything but you’d think the folks who are rich enough to own a BMW 7 Series have got things going their own way without the Bavarians actually encouraging them.

Unfortunately for our spite, that’s exactly what’s happening. BMW is cooking up two new options for the folks who will be driving the best handling limousine out there.

It’s not little stuff either, it’s two new engines, one of which comes with some extra performance aiding tricks.

We can take some comfort in the fact that the first of these engines is actually aimed at making the F01 BMW 7 Series less expensive, more fuel efficient and generally more affordable.

That’s what BMW are calling the 728i. The name is a bit of a giveaway as it tells us that it will share the N20 2.0 liter TwinPower Turbo four pot of the 328i.

In order to give it some more punch or more fuel economy depending on the conditions, BMW will use a hybrid system as well.

The other option is a much more exciting vehicle, it’s the M750i. Therefore it will be a sportier version of the mid-level V8 powered 7 Series.

You just know that the 4.4 liter TwinTurbo powerplant will be tweaked to produce some 450 or so horsepower and that the chassis will also receive some tweaks in order to make best use of that grunt.

It must be nice to have the opportunity to buy something like this, I mean really nice. Rumor has it that these choices will be available as early as next year.

I know a lot about the BMW 3 Series but do you think you know a lot about the BMW 3 Series?

We know you do, but BMW certainly want everybody else to know that their small sports sedan is not only the best option now, but it’s also been in that position for several years.

There’s no more than 3 minutes and 30 seconds that are meant to take you through the generations but, weirdly, it doesn’t feel like there’s not enough time.

Maybe the script called for the new youtube video to have the same figures in duration as one of the awesome 330i models the Bavarians create.

Going through the shortlist, the BMW 3 Series exists as an entity since 1975. The compact executive’s car has been in existence for quite some time.

Originally built as a two door sedan, the BMW 3 Series started to pick up the options on the number of doors, body shape and option of a roof.

Plenty of less obvious options have since come and gone and, of course, the presence of the M3 in this list is quite significant for history.

My favorite in the lineup is the E36 version, the one that comes with a squared stance and is a really sharp suit.

Unfortunately for me, getting hold of such a car in good condition these days is tricky and if you want one that hasn’t been molested, that’s even worse.

The rest of the lineup is standing tall and some of them are among the most desirable of classics.

The American branch of BMW has given its customers a new way of finding out exactly what kind of BMW X1 crossover they’d like to order.

As I’m sure they know but some of you may not, the BMW X1 only came to the United States this year pending an unveiling at the New York Auto Show.

Here we are now, a video release later and we’re faced with the real thing. The BMW X1 configurator is now live on BMW USA.

As with normal car configurators, the likes we’ve seen in their hundreds over the years. You can have a proper look round the car in 3D.

You can select various combinations of wheels and exterior colors and then you can start ticking boxes for trim levels or interior finish options.

Naturally, the entire options list is a few clicks away and all that. What strikes rather odd is the way the pricing is then presented to you.

Unlike the norm, where you get a figure saying “this is what it’ll cost, then you add the options”, you have to be very careful about the listings.

The starting price is one thing but then you see that it’s actually cheaper. Or at least that’s how it appears to be because you have to select a trim level to get to the “real price”.

It’s never really good news to ask for more money before offering any more car, is it? Maybe BMW USA need to re-evaluate their online configurator process.

Americans love buying their cars off the lot. Go in, pay up, get a new car, drive away, that’s pretty much their idea of buying a car.

BMW is trying to change that and encourages ordering cars. As part of this idea, the Bavarian’s US division has just introduced an online configurator for one of the most desirable models in their lineup.

That’ll be the F10 BMW M5 or, as it’s known over the Atlantic, the 2013 BMW M5.

The configurator features nothing special compared to the “regular” 5 Series in its construction, the content however is considerably different.

Apart from the M5 being the only car you can spec up, the list to do so is quite the considerable one. Jacking up the price well beyond the 89.900 USD is very easily jacked up.

Before you even get to adding some goodies there’s the 890 destination charge and a yet to be determined gas guzzler tax which should fall somewhere between 1000 and 2000 USD.

Once you get down to the business of actually selecting colors, toys, performance and safety equipment, you might find yourself (like me) staring down the barrel of a $121.295 shot.

There’s simply no option in the package that one wouldn’t find tempting but the one I really earn for the most is actually a no cost one.

I’m talking about something that’s not available in Europe (or anywhere else outside the US for that matter), the six speed manual transmission.

BMW has decided to tell us something in their discrete yet over-achieving style about the newest edition of the 3 Series, the F30.

We’ve talked about it, looked at it, studied it and gotten to know it pretty well by now, we might as well get down to business and buy one.

To that respect, you can go and talk to a dealer or you can simply spare a few clicks around their website and configure one by yourself.

While you’re at it, why not try and see how scared you can get by the sort of pricing the option list can provide once you tick sufficient boxes.

With the diesel engine under the bonnet you’ll have to pay at least $44.150 for a brand new current generation BMW 335d.

In America, the base F30 BMW 328i will come with a MSRP of $34.900 (not including the $895 destination charge) whereas the model everybody wants is a little more.

The F30 BMW 335i starts out at $42.400, also not including destination. Both of these prices don’t really include the Modern, Luxury or Sport Line setups.

Those choices alone will add between $1.400 and $2.500 dollars to the tag and if you’re ready to go wild BMW is ready to charge you more than 70.000 dollars for what’s basically a compact sedan.

Sure, it’s grown a long way since the original version but there is a issue with the price.

We’re not saying the BMW F30 3 Series isn’t worth it, it’s just that it has a bit of a mental hurdle to overcome.
