BMW is preparing the launch a new era of high tech luxury car, for its segments on the go, and no matter what some may think, the car manufacturer might be a winner this year in front of Mercedes-Benz`s models.

I am referring to the fresh new X1 that has been reviewed for several times now and all things came surprisingly well and impressed. The BMW X1 is actually a multitude of parts, taking the platform from E8X or E9X or adding the N20 and the great ZF 8 speed auto.

The X1 is thus a very enjoyable drive with a lots of efficiency and utility features. On top of that, if you take the AWD 2.0 four-cylinder from N20 and put it on the X1, you have one of the best BMWs in the recent history.

IS the new F48 front wheel drive based worthy of these compliments from its fellow BMW vehicles? If it does, then the car would be lighter and perhaps a little bit smaller, as it would be based on the same platform as the next generation of MINI Countryman.

It would also come with electronically boosted steering which sometimes may lead to a lack of natural flaw on the road. Instead, the car is happy to deliver more space inside, better efficiency and more technology. Sounds like a blast?

Spying cars is far from the glamorous business. Not only that, the list of downsides includes the fact that manufacturers tend to be quite elusive when testing their cars.

Luckily for the guys out looking into BMW’s future business, they ran into some people testing the upcoming F15 BMW X5. This is a vehicle that’s pretty hard to miss.

Alongside the fact that the SAV is quite builky, it immediately attracts attention by dropping some of the heavy camouflage it used to have.

Some camouflage has disappeared yet as usual, it has only been eliminated from the areas which are least revealing.

It’s partially disappointing to only see the door faces and part of the rear quarter panel. It’s more than interesting to see some less obvious details.

For example, the headlamps appear to be brought in line with the new BMW design language as they seem very similar to the F30 3 Series.

The overall shape and rear cluster do seem familiar but the business going on underneath has been considerably overhauled.

New lessons that were learned on smaller models when it comes to fuel economy are going to be applied here as well.

Believe it or not, the 2.0 liter turbocharged four cylinder N20 engine will be a part of the lineup. Having been used on the 520i, the powerplant will have a hell of a job.

That said, at 245 horsepower, it is considerably more powerful than initial versions of the 3.0 liter engine that was initially introduced back with the E53 X5.

The Bavarians have had themselves a bit of a stumble with the introduction of the 2012 F30 BMW 3 Series to the U.S. market regarding its fuel economy.

This is where the EPA makes the rules, come up with a grading system and no matter how well manufacturers think they’ve learned, they still bring back the test scores.

Whereas BMW estimated their eight speed automatic 328i could do 36 mpg in highway testing conditions it seems that’s not the case.

The EPA has adjusted the figures of the F30 BMW 328i to 33 mpg highway and 23 mpg city. That’s a drop of 3 and 1 mpg respectively.

Those are the final figures the 2012 version of the new 3 Series will be sold with in N20 engine spec and that means it’s no longer better than the 335d version.

Rumor has it these retests may be happening since the EPA is getting a bunch of complaints of other cars. Everything may have started from the Hyundai Elantra.

Even so, BMW isn’t very pleased with the changes and they’ve officially announced that they’ve managed to get up to 36 mpg on the highway.

The halfway solution is going to come from fueleconomy.gov as they’re rating it at 23/34 mpg. That could be seen in new window stickers of the 328i.

This is weird because the 2012 F30 BMW 3 Series is rated at 23/33 in accordance to the new EPA rating but some of the official websites are still carrying the old predictions.

Not that we’re not sorry for the hit BMW took with this fuel economy rating, but even so, the F30 328i is a class leader in its segment.

The Bavarians had been threatening us with it for a while now and they’ve finally gotten down to showcasing it; the F25 BMW X3 goes xDrive28i.

As it’s powered by the N20 engine, the X3 crossover becomes ever more interesting a proposition. And once you consider the pricing that’s slapped on to it that idea does not change.

For the 2013 modelyear, the F25 BMW X3 xDrive28i will have an MSRP of $37.995, destination and handling included which is actually quite remarkable.

That starting price is equal to the one the 2012 modelyear had in the F25 BMW X3 xDrive28i. The mai difference here is obviously in the engine.

Whereas the previous generation had an acclaimed naturally aspirated powerplant, a glorious 3.0 liter inline six cylinder engine, the new one goes to N20.

The N20 provides a little less horsepower at 245 (15 less) but considerably more torque than before at 260 (60 more). All of this happens as fuel economy is considerably improved.

Alongside the innate ability of the engine to be more efficient and less polluting, the 2013 BMW X3 xDrive28i is going to receive a few extra features to help the process along.

The same ECO PRO fuel saving system as the F30 3 Series will be available on the F25 X3 xDrive28i. Since we’re referring to the US pricing, that version isn’t yet EPA tested so we don’t know exactly how well it all meshes together.

For the EU testing cycle however, the new version of the X3 xDrive28i manages 7.5 lt/100km which can be translated into some 31.3 mpg US.
