As one of the most appreciated auto shows of the year, the NAIAS Auto Show will be missing two of the most important carmakers in the auto industry next year, Mercedes-Benz and BMW. The latter company recently announced the decision during an official statement.

This is what BMW representatives stated about bailing on the North American International Auto Show next year:

“[The] BMW Group has decided to withdraw from the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. This decision was made as BMW is constantly examining our presence at trade-shows and other engagements, while, at the same time, also exploring alternative platforms and formats.”

The Bavarian representatives have also said that their job is to “communicate our ideas and plans regarding future mobility in the best way and achieve the greatest possible visibility for our products, technologies and innovations.”

BMW has had a relatively-low presence at this year`s auto event, as the carmaker was also developing new technologies and new concept cars. It is busy testing out future models, while also launching new ones, like the updated i8 coupe or the gorgeous X2 crossover.

Usually taking place between January 13th – January 28th, the NAIAS might be moved further on to October. At least this is what officials have in mind, now with the withdrawing of the two major carmakers in the auto industry.

This way, carmakers would have sufficient time to test out, prepare and announce their latest concepts or prototypes. This could also help to reduce costs. Another advantage is that the show would be held just right after the Frankfurt and Paris Motor Show, taking place in September.

In case the vote on the move could favour NAIAS, this wouldn’t take place until 2020, at least this is what recent reports from Automotive News state. We will definitely know more details next month, when officials will meet to discuss the situation. Stay tuned!

BMW is a real master in identifying the customers` needs on the automotive market, and with the latest trends today, it has managed to provide the best products and services. And this is why the German carmaker remains the leader in the auto industry.

The 2018 North American International Auto Show currently being held in Detroit, US, was the perfect opportunity for BMW to present its newest models. One of them was announced last year and has now been presented to the world, particularly since it is aimed towards the very popular subcompact crossover segment in the United States – it is the all-new 2018 BMW X2.

Just like most of the new models from BMW, the X2 also grew in size, becoming more aggressive and appealing and offering generous space inside and a wide range of engines under the hood. It is based on the also popular X1, being 3.2 inches longer and 2.8 inches lower.

As you probably know already, it also stands on the company`s new UKL architecture, meaning more lightweight materials for increased performance and low consumption. As for the looks, it shares its design lines with the much larger X4 and X6.

Among its top characteristics at the exterior, we should mention the upside-down Kidney Grilles and the BMW roundel on the C-pillar.

As for interior design, it also borrows top features from the 5-Series or 7-Series. However, it does come with tweaks of its own, like the freestanding 6.5-inch infotainment system or SensaTec upholstery. Other elements also include an 8.8-inch infotainment system with GPS navigation, Dakota leather or heads-up display.

Once arriving on the US market later on this year, the all-new 2018 BMW X2 will be offered as an all-wheel drive layout, available in the xDrive28i. The version will come with a 2.0-liter turbocharged flat-four mill, with 228 horsepower and 349 Nm of torque, and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The same engine will also be available on the European counterpart.

In the United States, the 2018 BMW X2 will cost at least $38,400; however, with the array of optional available, prices could exceed $40,000. Stay tuned for more details and images!

Even if BMW hasn’t officially introduced all the 5-Series range at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, it will soon have the chance of doing so at the upcoming 2017 NAIAS, which is set to debut in Detroit, this month.

We are looking here at BMW`s hybrids, which comprise the already previewed 530e iPerformance, the as well as the X5 xDrive40e iPerformance. It will also add the new i3 and i8, and the 540i xDrive .

The models will join the rest of the BMW fleet, meaning the X2 Concept, and other cool models that will be officially introduced in Detroit.

Under the hood, the BMW 5-Series 530e iPerformance will feature a conventional 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired to an electric motor, the entire drivetrain delivering 252 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque. This allows a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.2 seconds, at a top speed of 235 km/h. In terms of fuel-consumption, the 530e iPerformance burns out just 2l / 100 km, while the CO2 emissions stand at 46 g/km. The lithium-ion battery pack also allows a capacity of 9.2 kWh, providing a driving range of 47 km, at a top speed of 140 km/h.

On the other hand, the 540i xDrive will come with a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine, with 335 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque, enough to deliver a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. On the other hand, the M550i xDrive comes with 456 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque, as well as a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds.

BMW is planning to introduce the all-new 2017 G30 5-Series at the upcoming 2017 North American International Auto Show, while in Europe, the German carmaker is expected to launch the fresh X2 Coupe, at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.

According to recent reports, the 2017 5-Series will be unveiled on the internet prior to its introduction on the market at the beginning of 2017.

As most of the latest BMW models, the all-new 5-Series will be bigger, taking design cues from the much larger 7-Series and standing on the same platform. We are dealing here with the new CLAR platform, meaning that the model will be lighter with around 100 kg.

As you probably know, the CLAR platform, which originated from the 35up platform, consists of lightweight materials like carbon fiber, aluminum and high-strength steel, automatically making the 5-Series much lighter. This is the same one also used on other models from the 3-, 6- and 7-Series.

Besides the modern architecture and evolutionary design, the new G30 5-Series will also borrow the 7-Series` onboard technology. We should be seeing thus the high-tech iDrive infotainment system with gesture control, as well as the autonomous driving, reportedly way too more advanced than the one found on the current 7-Series.

The full details with the upcoming 2017 G30 5-Series will be announced prior to the car`s debut at the 2017 NAIAS, in Detroit.

We finally received the official press release from BMW, regarding the Detroit Motor Show.

After many pictures, posts, videos and information, we will finally see the 2009 BMW Z4 in its true form. This will happen between 17 and 25 of January. Some people might be interested in seeing the new 7 and 3 Series vehicles. Besides presenting these cars, BMW will also host a presentation of the ActiveHybrid technology, a perfect way to reduce fuel consumption. Basically, the people from BMW will have their work cut out for themselves when they reach the Detroit Motor Show. You should expect a lot of news at the middle of January because many interesting things will happen.

The Detroit Motor Show is the perfect chance for any BMW fan to see the latest models face to face.
