It seems more bad news comes from BMW. After they have announced their frustration at the CO2 emission targets and the sacrifices they will have to make in order to meet them, BMW is now dropping the naturally aspirated engines.

And it seems the culprit is the same Euro6 regulations considering CO2 emissions.

The first one to go will be the F10 BMW 5 Series, which come summer and the facelifted version, it will be powered by an N20 4 cylinder engine instead of the N53B30 in line six. That might be a bitter pill to swallow for many community members, but the BMW 535i just didn’t comply with Euro 6 regulations.

And the 5 series is not the only model to drop naturally aspired engines. Once the 2 Series launches and replaces the E82 1 Series Coupe and E88 Convertible, it will also sport a cleaner 4 cylinder engine, dropping the N52. Even the BMW M3 will lose its naturally aspirated engine, but since the current generation vehicles are all spoken for, you can consider it already gone.

It is a good thing that BMW has begun to take it’s models for dyno tests in order to clearly know how they stand in terms of power. But because of the fact that they have limitations by the car manufacturer, more people are wanting to know the real potential of their vehicles, and this is the case of the 2011 BMW 535i that went on the dyno at MD Automotive Dynojet.

Featuring a new 3-litre V6 engine with Valvetronic technology and direct injection, together with a eight speed auto gearbox, the 2011 BMW 535i is said (by BMW itself) to be sporting 300 hp and 300 lb/ft of torque.

Well, it seems that the dyno results are in and they look a bit surpsising, as the 2011 BMW 535i only got 277 hp and 283 lb/ft of torque. But this could be attributed to the losses because of the drivetrain, so when one would think about it, the numbers which BMW gave aren’t really that far fetched.

Here we have a comparison test between three German premium models available on the market. This test was made by people from Car and Driver. The Americans from Car and Driver decided to put on the same road one of the best premium German models from three manufacturers.

We are talking about BMW 535i, Infiniti M37S and one of the biggest BMW’s rival, Audi, the Stuttgart manufacturer being represented in this test by the A6 model.

As you probably know, the 2011 BMW 535i is powered by a six-cylinder 3.0-liter engine capable to develop up to 300 bhp. The engine is coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission. Mike Sutton from Car and Driver was the one who tested the 2011 BMW 535i, said that the BMW’s engine is a very strong one but he also founded some displeasures about this model. Since the new BMW 5 Series has been grabbing headlines left and right it’s about time BMW made it easy for you to buy your own.

In case you are planning on making that move, BMW’s USA site now features a car configurator specifically purposed in letting you get yourself the 550i or the 535i you want and the toys you deem necessary on either of them.

In case you’re wondering why BMW would only let you spec up the 550i and 535i it’s because these are the only models available in America at the moment so it would be foolish to let you configurate any others.

As a reminder, underneath the trim levels, optional extras and so on you still get two massive debates to yourself.

Do you need the 4.4L twin-turbo V8 giving you 400 horsepower the 550i has to offer or will you settle for the 3.0L twin-scroll turbocharged inline six engine that produces 300 horsepower. There is a bit of a price gap between the two but to be honest both are great picks.

Another area where you might be unsure is this; Do you want the typical sedan or are you going to go for the GT version?

Difficult decisions, good thing the online configurator is now available, right?

Apparently, BMW wants to release a 3 Series model that will look similar to BMW 535i Gran Turismo. This is about to happen in 2011. The new model of BMW 3 Series will be named “BMW 335i Gran Turismo”. The details that I will give you about 2011 BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo will be approximated.

There are rumors that there will be 2 versions of 2011 BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo: a four seat version and a five seat version. I wrote a lot to you on this blog about the new 2010 BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo that will go into production next year, so for more details just search on this blog.

The price of 2011 BMW 335i Gran Turismo will be between 3 Series and 5 Series. It will pass a lot of time until I will know the price exactly; it will be probably with few months until the release. I think this design is not suitable for a 3 Series but the good fact will be that you will get some cool things from 2010 BMW 535i Gran Turismo at a smaller price.
