There are plenty of photos and videos out there where one BMW or another managed to find its end in quite brutal accidents.

And be it on the Nurburgring or just in a back alley, be it the fault of the driver or something else, it is always a sad sight for enthusiasts.

But there is one way of destroying a perfectly good Bimmer without putting a scratch on it. Usually these equally gruesome ends come at the hands of tuners, who try too hard to improve on the design, when there is really no need to. As a home project, we can almost understand that, but why would a professional tuner actually do this to a BMW 1M.

The 1M is already considered a rare car, with only 6331 unit ever produced, and every time one botches a tune on these, that number just goes down. There are, of course, several project involving the BMW 1M that are absolutely brilliant, and these come from tuners like AC Schnitzer. This monstrosity draped in chrome vinyl wrap and wearing green neon wheels is anything but brilliant.

The new BMW 1 Series M Coupe is starting to receive more and more attention from tuning companies, this time the German specialists from APP Europe coming with their own proposal. On the styling side, the tuning house opted for new ATS alloy wheels painted in black with Pirelli P-Zero tires, new exterior graphics and revised badges. Inside, the customers will receive Alcantara upholstery, BMW Performance seats but also a new steering wheel.

However, these improvements are not that important as the model received some performance upgrades too, improvements able to boost its sporty character even more.

To be more precise, the 3.0-liter turbocharged unit which delivers 340 horsepower received a reworked ECU unit along a larger intercooler. With these modifications but also with a new titanium sport exhaust system, the German model is able to produce 410 horsepower.

We know that the new BMW 1 Series M Coupe is already a fast and agile model, therefore, these improvements will do nothing but increase the performance.

Other features include new braking system with ceramic discs but also a KW Variante 3+ suspension. The new tuning package is priced at €20,000.

It seems that a small 1 Series with 340 horsepower under the bonnet and a rear-wheel drive system is quite difficult to control as today we saw the third incident where the smallest M ever created by BMW performance division has been involved. The new BMW 1 Series M Coupe is also offered in a limited edition of around 1,000 units while its production is scheduled to end later this year, most probably in December. Therefore, we got all the reasons to feel bad for each vehicle which ends up in the railings.

The first accident with the new 1M Coupe has been reported in mid-July when a South Korean customer managed to crash his brand new vehicle after another vehicle did not respected the semaphore’s red color.

He also said that around 80 unit of the new BMW M model arrived in South Korea while he was the first to get the German model but also first to crash it. The second incident with the BMW 1 Series M Coupe has been reported few days ago in Poland when the driver lost the car’s control and left the tarmac.

The driver went off the road into the field causing some minor damage to the vehicle. As it can be seen from the photos, the wheels seem to be affected the most while a new paint job could be the second thing to consider.

Finally, the third incident happened somewhere in Switzerland where a 25-year-old driver lost control of his BMW 1 Series M Coupe due to the wet tarmac, seriously crashing the vehicle. According to the first details, the car jumped over a hill and stopped in 70 meters.

Fortunately, the driver escaped unharmed while the passenger suffered from minor injuries. It seems that the last two incidents with the German model were caused by the wet road which means that driving the 1M Coupe could be quite challenging for inexperienced drivers.

The British people from AutoCar decided to review two hot German models at the moment, the BMW 1 Series M Coupe and its rival from Porsche, namely Cayman R. If you don’t have to concern about Cayman R’s availability, the situation of the Bavarian model it is quite different and difficult.

Just few days ago, BMW announced that the 1 Series M Coupe will be pulled out of production in December this year, a pretty unpleasant news considering the allure of the smallest M and of course, the price tag, which makes it the most affordable M model ever created by BMW.

We already knew that the BMW 1 Series M Coupe is headed to a limited production of around 1,000 units but the premature production end makes us worry about the German model. However, regardless the uniqueness of the model, the German hatchback has to prove its capabilities in front of another model full of tradition.

For the beginning, we can relate to the performance figures of the two German models in order to see if there are major differences able to influent ate the final result. Therefore, BMW 1 Series M Coupe packs a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged engine able to develop 335 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque.

With these resources, the Bavarian model is able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4,7 seconds thanks to a six-speed manual transmission while the top speed is limited at 250 km/h. On the other hand, the 2011 Porsche Cayman R benefits from a 3.4-liter engine that produces 330 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque. Until now, there are not any big differences between the two models, therefore, we talk about a very tight battle.

When mated to a six-speed manual transmission, the Cayman R achieves an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 5 seconds while the optional seven-speed PDK transmission cuts down 0,1 seconds. The top speed of Porsche Cayman R is 280 km/h but this will not affect the duel. In terms of price, Cayman R is slightly more expensive with a starting price of $66,300 while the 1 Series M starts at $47,010. With this been said, let’s hear the opinion of Steve Sutcliffe, the British journalists who had the opportunity to test the German models somewhere in the Scottish Islands.

Here is some bad news for the fans of the smallest and most affordable M model in BMW’s portfolio. According to Matt Russell, the M brand manager from America, the Germans will end the production of the current 1 Series M Coupe in December this year.

Even we knew that the M model will benefit just from a limited production, this decision is quite shocking as we talk about the cheapest M-badged model from BMW but still able to deliver good performance, a recipe that should bring good sales, at least in theory. Until now, BMW Group issued no press release announcing that the production of the 1 Series M Coupe will end along with this year but there is no reason to think that the U.S. M manager lied us.

Matt Russell also stated that the model will be manufactured in less than 1,000 units but declined to tell us how many units are left. Therefore, if you want to get one of the limited units, you would better hurry up as we can’t tell you exactly how many of them are already sold, an increased amount of orders being expected in the following months due to this early production interruption.

As you probably know, the BMW 1 Series M Coupe features a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged unit able to produce 335 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque, the power being sent to the wheels by a six-speed manual transmission. With these resources, the Bavarian model sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 4,7 seconds and achieves a top speed of 250 km/h. A month ago, the 1 Series M managed to beat the M3 E92 at the Hockenheim circuit by obtaining a lap time of 1:14.1 being 0.1 seconds faster than its bigger brother.

While there are no official details explaining us why BMW wants to end the production so early, some rumors claiming that the 335-horsepower unit which fits the German model is the main cause emerged. To be more exact, the 3.0-liter V6 N54 unit suffered major modifications in order to be a good choice for the current 1 Series M Coupe, the new year bringing some tighter regulations in terms of pollution, something that will make the engine ineligible. BMW will quit manufacturing the N54 unit and therefore, the smallest M has to be pulled out of production.

This year’s season of MotoGP is ready to debut with the Losail race in Qatar and the Germans from BMW proudly announced that their all-new 1 Series M Coupe will be the official Safety Car this season. Of course, the German model received a special paint job along some “Safety Car” stickers, a rear wing and a new set of 19-inch alloy wheels fitted with 255/35 tires front and 285/30 rear.

A pair of LED lights make their appearance in the front grille while the the technical improvements include a high performane four-pipe Akrapovic exhaust system, a new sports suspension but also a revised braking system.

Entering the cabin, the Germans from BMW quitted the rear seat and mounted a rollcage, sport seats with six-point seatbelts and also windows made of polycarbonate.

According to BMW, two additional security vehicles wearing the BMW badge will be seen at the first MotoGP race, namely a X6 M and M3. Here is a photo gallery with the specially prepared 1 Series Coupe M for the new MotoGP season.

Back in December 2010, we talked about a rendering made by Jon Sibal based on the new BMW 1 Series M Coupe, a well-known designer and BMW fan in th same time. At that time we thought that we won’t see this model as a real car too soon but the designer just contradicted us recently.

We have some fresh details coming up exactly from his blog according to, the BMW 1 Series M Coupe competition version will take shape thanks to a massive collaboration with a large number of tuners.

Jon Sibal will team up with people from ESS Tuning, Brembo, Eisenmann Exhaust System, Challenge Engineering, KW but also Patrick BMW in order to create the model that few months ago was just a simple rendering. Also, a big contribution will be brought by the Chicago-based IND Distribution tuners. Currently we don’t have any technical details regarding the new special version of the 1 Series M Coupe but the information will be available soon.

The Germans from BMW announced the price for the new 1 Series M Coupe, the smallest M model ever created by BMW’s Motorsport division. Together with the new 1 Series M, BMW introduced the new 6 Series Convertible (F13) we already talked about.

Packing under the bonnet a twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine, the German small model manages to provide 335 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque while the sprint to 100 km/h is achieved in 4,7 seconds. The metallic orange exterior colour found usually on the competition M3 versions brings a plus in terms of appearance.

Unfortunately, for beginning the Germans plan to introduce just a limited amount of vehicles so you’d better hurry up if you really want to drive the latest M model developed by BMW. Okay, you probably want now to find the price of the new 1 Series M Coupe. According to the Germans from BMW, the new German model based on the 1 Series range get a price of $47,010.

According to the people at Skiddmark, the earlier revealed BMW 1 Series M Coupe manages to obtain a great lap time around the Nurburgring Nordschleife overcoming even few more potent rival models.

The smallest M ever achieved an 8:12 lap time around the famous Nurburgring Nordschleife. For those you don’t know, the little 1 Series M model defeated the older BMW M3 E46 which got a time of about 8:22 while the current M3 E92 it’s just 7 seconds quicker than the 1 Series M Coupe.

Thus, the 335-horsepower M model achieved great figures being equipped with the six-cylinder engine found on the Z4 sDrive35is. The model has a total mass of 1495 kilograms and a power/weight ratio of 4,4 kg/hp, a fact which makes the performance to be greater. The BMW 1 Series M Coupe will be officially launched at the Detroit Auto Show next year following to enter the market few months after the revealing event from Detroit.
