You can’t not give credit to BMW for coming up with such well rounded machines but sometimes you have to also appreciate the passion the brand’s fans demonstrate once they get those cars.

A great example of what I’m on about can be found in a recent post by one of the members of the f30post forums. He’s not only handy with the ideas, he also knows his way round a camera.

His F30 3 Series received a special M Sport body kit makeover alongside some snazzy big alloy wheels sized at 20 inches.

The M Sport package obviously sharpens up the looks and a silver painted BMW couldn’t possibly go wrong. So what’s the deal with the wheels.

They do look familiar, but there’s just now way the F30 comes which such alloys, they’re not even in the options bin.

Thankfully, if you have some imagination, it’s not such a problematic idea. The owner got his set from an even more impressive BMW model.

It’s the style 373M option you can find the 650i M Sport. In keeping with the GT mantra, the tires are wider and provide more grip as they are now 245/35 at the front and 275/30 at the rear.

The owner is pretty pleased with the result and such a car does corner flatter, is more encouraging through the bends but there is a downside.

Fuel economy levels are bound to drop (even though this is the 328i version of the F30) and in some cases the comfort could be compromised.

BMW’s top end presence at the luxury segment has a lot to do with the luxurious cars they make but there’s also a lot to do with the way the details are planned out.

The details on the interior, the way the engine works and then there’s the stuff that’s not directly related to the car.

Be it iDrive, the customer service or services like BMW On Demand. The latter is a service that the Bavarians have been offering in Europe for a while now.

This service is soon (make that next month) going to be available in the United States of America and it is actually bigger news than you’d imagine.

That’s because you’ll be able to rent a BMW in various cities around the country without too much of a fuss and, best of all, it’s not the usual car renting service.

First of all, you can rent some proper cars from BMW, in this case it’s the F30 BMW 328i and you can rent it by the week, the day and, more importantly, the hour.

When it kicks in, BMW On Demand will be available from BMW of Manhattan and will have some 100 cars ready to rent.

According to the Bavarians, this is still a pilot program so there’s a chance the US might not get this as a permanent idea.

If it works out, the BMW on demand service will eventually include a wider range of cars, the 5 Series, 7 Series, X3 and X5 should be included.

The Bavarians have had themselves a bit of a stumble with the introduction of the 2012 F30 BMW 3 Series to the U.S. market regarding its fuel economy.

This is where the EPA makes the rules, come up with a grading system and no matter how well manufacturers think they’ve learned, they still bring back the test scores.

Whereas BMW estimated their eight speed automatic 328i could do 36 mpg in highway testing conditions it seems that’s not the case.

The EPA has adjusted the figures of the F30 BMW 328i to 33 mpg highway and 23 mpg city. That’s a drop of 3 and 1 mpg respectively.

Those are the final figures the 2012 version of the new 3 Series will be sold with in N20 engine spec and that means it’s no longer better than the 335d version.

Rumor has it these retests may be happening since the EPA is getting a bunch of complaints of other cars. Everything may have started from the Hyundai Elantra.

Even so, BMW isn’t very pleased with the changes and they’ve officially announced that they’ve managed to get up to 36 mpg on the highway.

The halfway solution is going to come from fueleconomy.gov as they’re rating it at 23/34 mpg. That could be seen in new window stickers of the 328i.

This is weird because the 2012 F30 BMW 3 Series is rated at 23/33 in accordance to the new EPA rating but some of the official websites are still carrying the old predictions.

Not that we’re not sorry for the hit BMW took with this fuel economy rating, but even so, the F30 328i is a class leader in its segment.

The Germans at AC Schnitzer don’t mess about. They’re adamant about the sort of modifications they do to cars so they even change the names.

We’re not very approving of this “idea” but and you can’t deny that without the F30 BMW 328i the AC Schnitzer ASC3 Turbo would never have existed.

Anyway, since we got across it we won’t deny the AC Schnitzer ASC3 Turbo a second glance, particularly the spec sheet section.

The F30 328i’s 2.0 liter turbocharged cylinder produces 240 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque and in this form it received plenty of praise.

But the German tuner said it’s not enough so they did a little tinkering with the exhaust and ECU and the figures now come in at 295 horsepower and 302 lb-ft of torque.

The acceleration from 0 to 62 does drop a little from 5.9 to 5.7 seconds. Overtaking should also feel like you’ve got more poke under the bonnet but there’s something unusual at play.

Despite the added performance the guys over at AC Schnitzer didn’t remove the F30 BMW 3 Series’ top speed limiter so you’ll have to stop at 155 mph.

Since they’ve fitted a sport suspension and offer wheel and tire upgrades. Speaking of the wheels you can have them in 20 inch sized but if you know where performance is, 18s are also available.

The exterior and interior of the F30 BMW 328i have also been tweaked for it to become the ASC3 Turbo. What’s lovable about that is that the numerous changes aren’t easily apparent.

You still get the discrete BMW feel on your custom ride, that’s something quite rare.
