BMW carmaker has big plans with its entire model range, planning big changes with the big league. It will slot the future and more potent BMW X7, being also reported to release a more luxurious BMW 8-Series in a couple of years, which would replace the 6-Series until a new generation will arrive.

The upcoming of the future BMW 8-Series is not new, the test mule already being spied in photos and reviewed in different reports.

The latest reports state that the all-new BMW 8-Series will be based on the 7-Series, and will come with a two- and a four-door body styling, along with their convertible versions, riding on the same CLAR platform, also underpinning the 7-Series and other high-end models. Also, it will become the official replacement of the 6-Series, at least until the new-generation model would emerge in 2019.

The BMW 8-Series` CLAR platform will boast with carbon fiber and aluminum composites, making it much lighter and making the cabin`s interior much more wider than the current 7-Series.

In the engine department, the all-new 8-Series is also likely to borrow the powertrain lineup from the 7-Series, adding base diesels as well as a top of the line 850i with the company`s high-performance 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine.

Once it will emerge on the market, the BMW 8-Series will become the direct rival of the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and Convertible.

The glory days of the 2 Series` top of the line M235i might be over, as the German based carmaker might replace it with a more powerful version, dubbed for the moment the BMW M240i. According to a Bimmerpost member, we should see it on the streets somewhere in 2017.

We do not have the complete details with the upcoming BMW M240i, but the same member stated that the model will receive around 20 horsepower more than the present M235i.

As a reminder, the BMW M235i Coupe received a powerful 3.0-liter straight six-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit, developing a rough 332 horsepower (240 kW) and a great 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque. This means that the upcoming BMW 240i would output 352 horsepower.

In the M235i, all the power is sent to the rear wheels via an automatic or a manual transmission. In Europe, the BMW M235i is priced from 36,764 euros, so we should depict that the 2017 BMW 240i might come with a spicier price as well.

Apart the replacement of the BMW M235i with the M240i, the Bavarian auto manufacturer might also drop the 228i in favor of the 230i.

As James May once eloquently put it, BMW think Front Wheel Drive is the work of Satan. That was quite a while back and the idea stood true.

Nowadays however it seems that practicality is beating one of the core ideas out of the Bavarian brand. We’ve been threatened with a FWD BMW for a while now and it seems we’ve got news of the first one.

Surprisingly, it’s not going to be the 1 Series or any compact that would slot in below it. It is actually going to be the next generation of the BMW X1.

Granted, the next generation of the BMW 1 Series will follow suit, and there will probably be other models to cross the same path, but the X1 will be remembered as the betrayer.

The small crossover will share its platform with another product of the BMW Group that nestles in these traits, namely the Mini Countryman.

It’s not the sharpest thing in the world to drive but it does well for a crossover and while I’m certain BMW will make it even better, a little part inside me has died.

Aside from this bit of bad news, I’m not very impressed with the way BMW will also be updating the powerplant choices.

The six cylinder big boys are going to be eliminated and apart from keeping the smaller four pots, there’s also a good chance that we’ll see the 1.5 liter three cylinder in there.

Overall, not the most impressive ideas are coming together in the next BMW X1. The BMW brand dilution is not cool but then again crossovers and SUVs shouldn’t be there either.
