I have never ever thought that at a certain point in the near future I would buy my favorite BMW model online just with a few clicks.

Well, with the fast-developing of the online technology everything is possible nowadays, and BMW has once more taken the first paces in launching a unique online ordering system in the UK, where almost everyone can buy its favorite BMW by just scrolling down the thousands of options available at your disposal.

Surely, BMW first had to test out the ongoing system, by conducted a trial with nine BMW UK retailers, 95 percent of them accepting to offer the service to their customers.

Nigel Hurley, Sytner Group BMW Divisional Managing Director, stated that “This is great news for retailers. It forms part of our ever more customer-centric focus and makes life easier for the customer. We see this becoming an increasingly important channel in the future.”

The system is very eas to use. All you have to do is build your BMW online, customize it with the available features, arrange a test drive if you decide on a certain model, set up all the financial details and the payment process and then contact a sales executive, which will deal with the rest of the transaction.

As BMW stated, the UK is the first market where the internet online system is currently offered, with 137 BMW retailers to benefit the system. If proven successful, other markets worldwide will follow, BMW expecting around 2.5 trillion revenues by 2020.

So far, the direction BMW have been on in chase of the luxury market, has been doing pretty well in figuring out where the money is.

Now though, the tides are changing and the Bavarians are looking to capture another market that’s so far been kept neatly away from them.

The new direction will have a foundation on the new UKL platform BMW are developing in order to take over the front wheel drive market.

As a first trial by fire, the new platform will be underpinning the 1 Series GT and, in a few years, the 1 Series sedan.

Sounds like a pretty good plan, after all, BMW don’t sell any cars that are front wheel drive exclusive apart from what the Mini sub brand is offering.

Such a major change for the actual roundel brand has probably already caused several suicides among diehard purists.

On the less grim side, there are lots of people who are interested in a car with all the practicality of a front wheel drive platform but the driving dynamics of a BMW.

It will not feel the same, but if it’s brilliant for a FWD (which is quite likely given the Mini route) it will still be more interesting than Mercedes or Audi.

The Bavarians seem to be quite confident in their abilities with the front wheel driven platform since they’re working on having 12 models ready in this spec.

Apart from the already known models, a five door Mini is in the works, a new crossover and a larger hatchback are also scheduled.

There’s not a lot of fanfare about it but the truth is that this is a big deal. BMW’s famed M division is turning 40 this month.

Over 40 years of existence they’ve given us countless dream machines and some very successful racing cars in all sorts of competitions around the world.

Most importantly however, the BMW M division has given us more than 3 decades of M branded vehicles, the most civilized way to enjoy performance.

We all know about all of the cars BMW’s M division’s cars. The E30 M3 was a car they made for racing and eventually sold to normal people.

The first generation M5 was a sedan that had the same racing derived 3.0 liter straight six cylinder engine as their flagship supercar, the BMW M1.

Moving on through the years there’s been countless variations of the M3, M5 and the two door version that is the M6 but there have been other options as well.

Let’s not forget the BMW Z3 M and the Z4 M or the much more recent BMW 1 M Coupe. All of them are/were simply excellent cars.

Sadly, along the way a bit of brand dilution with the X-range SAVs getting some attention from the M division. Those are hated by plenty of enthusiasts but even they feel like proper BMWs.

Which is remarkable given how tall they are, how heavy they are or how deeply obvious their presence can be.

I suppose that after 40 years, the M division can probably turn any vehicle into an epic driving machine.

We love the Bavarian company, we know it is on top for a reason, but we can’t just ignore that sometimes they make mistakes as well.

The chief authority on everything recall has brought forward an announcement according to which over 30.000 vehicles built by BMW and spread over a large range of models.

Affected models are the BMW 5 Series, the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo, the BMW 7 Series, the BMW X5 and the BMW X6, all of which share some of the affected engines.

The engines at hand are BMW’s turbocharged V8 and V12 powerplants which may be subjected to to a failure within the circuit boards.

It seems like these days the electronics are killing cars more than shoddy repairs or anything of the likes are. In the case of the BMW recall, there’s a circuit board that controls the electric auxiliary water boards that are prone to overheating.

That, in return could lead to the pump smoldering and, eventually, to an engine compartment fire. Not exactly the best of news but there’s a small chance of it so BMW has to take action.

The Bavarians are going to recall the 32.084 BMW units, make the necessary replacements free of charge as soon as possible within the upcoming month of November.

According to the NHTSA, just 102 of the researched vehicles with affected problem have gotten to the point where there actually was an engine compartment fire.
