The Germans from BMW revealed yet another special edition of the current M3 generation. If the previous special models were based on the Coupe variant, this time the Bavarians decided to bring some improvements to the Sedan version and it seems to be a good decision. The current BMW M3 E90 received some styling updates but also some additional power under the bonnet, somehow unexpectedly as the previous editions earlier revealed were not benefiting from extra horsepower.

Called CRT, which stands for Carbon Racing Technology, the special edition of the M3 Sedan comes with a lightweight structure that weighs 1580 kg, around 45 kg being removed from the total mass.

To be more precise, BMW mounted new carbon fiber components such as the hood, roof, lid spoiler and the titanium exhaust system. Other exterior improvements include the 19-inch aluminum wheels borrowed from the M3 GTS Coupe. These lightweight rims are fitted with 245/35 (front) and 265/30s (rear) tires. At the interior, BMW offers carbon fiber seats, door sills, aluminum and carbon fiber trim for the door panels and new rear seats.

Under the bonnet, power comes from a revised 4.4-liter V8 able to deliver 450 horsepower and 440 Nm of torque. This means that the BMW M3 CRT special edition offers extra 30 horses over the stock M3 Sedan, the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h being possible now in 4,4 seconds while the top speed is 290 km/h.

According to the official details, BMW plans to produce only 67 units of the M3 CRT special edition, each vehicle coming with at price of €130.000 including VAT in Germany. It’s true that this is a pretty spicy price tag but it seems that after releasing a bunch of editions for the Coupe variant, developing a special edition based on the Sedan version of the current-generation M3 is not a bad idea at all. For now, these are the main details of the new BMW M3 CRT but we will get deeper in the details in our next article as there are still quite a lot to talk on this subject.

The BMW M3 E92 is probably the model that received the most special editions from the Germans, yet another one being revealed these days. We talk about Frozen Black, a special edition dedicated, this time, to the U.S. customers as the last three (Carbon Edition, Matte Edition and Tiger Edition) were specially designed for the Chinese market. As you probably expected, all these editions are based on the current-generation BMW M3 Coupe, internally known as E92.

Of course, the German engineers fitted the BMW M3 Frozen Black with the same 4.0-liter V8 unit able to produce 414 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque.

The V8 engine comes with an M Double Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic, the long version of M-DCT, while the 0-100 km/h acceleration is possible in 4,5 seconds. Actually, there is no surprise that these special editions of the current M3 are getting no performance upgrades, just aesthetic tweaks at the interior and exterior.

According to BMW USA, the new M3 Frozen Black gets a special matte black exterior finish, this feature giving the name of the new edition. The exterior appearance is completed by a new set of 19-inch GTS wheels, red brake calipers and components with a glossy black finish.

On the other hand, the interior is enhanced by higher quality materials such as a new leather upholstery, Novillo to be more precise, carbon leather trim, heated front seats, GPS navigation, a more powerful BMW Individual Enhanced Premium Sound System and red stitching for the seats, headrests, door inserts, armrests, middle console, and door pulls. Optional, you can opt for extra features such as a lowered ground clearance, iPod and USB connectivity, power front seats, anti-theft alarm system and park distance control.

According to the official details, the BMW M3 Frozen Black is limited to 20 units while the starting price is $79,650. “The 2011 Frozen Black Edition M3 Coupe continues the tradition of innovation and passion for driving by incorporating key changes to the M3’s dynamic qualities. Nineteen of the twenty Frozen Black Edition M3 Coupes will become available for delivery in late June 2011 through Authorized BMW Centers, and the production run will be completed by the end of July 2011. The twentieth car will be held by BMW of North America and may be sold at a later date,” said the Bavarians.
