We all know that BMW is the kind of company that strives for perfection in their products, no matter which division is handling it.

Be it a standard model, an M Division version, an i car or a bike, we come to expect both performance and high grade craftsmanship from the vehicles.

Of course, this level of quality wasn’t achieved overnight, but through a long process that spanned many decades and a lot of models. And since perfection is not really easy to achieve, the evolution continues. For BMW Motorrad, we already know what to look for in the future, as they have presented a concept previewing the road they want to take.

Called the BMW Concept Roadster, the bike is a real looker and was presented in this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, alongside the Mini Superleggera Vision. It is equipped with a 1170 cc 2 cylinder boxer engine capable of delivering 123 Hp and 125 Nm of torque. Of course, the BMW Concept Roadster also sports plenty of new tech, showing us a complete picture of things to come from BMW Motorrad.

The BMW Motorrad division – the manufacturer’s bike making branch – has seen increased orders in the past period.

Most of this new business comes from various public services and not only, who find their authority bikes the most attractive on the market at this time.

Be it police motorcycles, presidential escorts, fast response teams or any other kind of activity that needs such a machine, BMW is happy to provide. These bikes hail from four models, from the top of the line BMW R1200RT to the F800GT, F800GS and F650GS.

The selection is varied enough to offer good products both on and off road. Still, some authority bikes need that extra oomph to be able to take on certain situation, especially police bikes, but BMW confirmed that the products they sell are pretty much basic. If there is some fiddling done to the bikes, this occurs after the client purchased it.

India has to be the best market to sell bikes, but only if they are cheap, which usually translates into small displacement and locally built.

Many companies have already started making bikes locally, and have seen a good response from buyers.

Now BMW is ready to tackle the Indian market, to which end has signed a long term partnership with Indian bike maker TVS. Out of this collaboration two results are expected. First off, the more obvious piece of the Indian market, which might be just ripe for BMW.

Secondly, the German manufacturer will be debuting their first small displacement bike, which will be built in India but it might just be sold world-wide. Right now, no real details were released, but BMW did start to share some engineering specs with TVS. It will be interesting to see what kind of a machine will arise from this opportunity, and how much it will dilute the BMW brand.

It seems that the US authorities have found out yet another fault with BMW products, with a recent motorcycle issue uncovered.

And while these things can cost a manufacturer quite some money, it’s far better than the alternative.

It seems that the German car maker will have to recall 2.475 units Stateside. The affected models are the K1600GT and K1600GTL produced in 2012, and the mentioned issue affects the throttle. It seems that if a certain set of conditions are met, the engine of the bikes can stall, and that is never good on two wheels.

Going deeper into details, it seems that the part at fault is a throttle valve. The part could send a false signal to the ECU (engine control unit), causing it to limit the engine speed and possibly stalling it. As always, the recall will get all the affected bikes into a service where BMW will replace the faulty part free of charge.

As you might know, BMW invested a lot of money researching technology for their “born electric” city car, the i3.

And with grand promises to change the industry forever, what we have seen so far, chances are it might just do that.

But with so much invested into R&D, using the results on just one product would seem wasteful, and Germans are anything but wasteful. So why not build a scooter that can benefit from what they learned engineering the i3?

It is called the BMW C Evolution E-Scooter, and we caught wind of it at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The drive train makes full use of i3’s innovations, from the batteries to the permanent magnet motor able to produce 47 Hp and 72 Nm of torque.

Since the C Evolution is an electric scooter, you get full torque the minute you start to accelerate. Reaching 100 km/h (yes, it does) takes just 6.2 seconds, and at 120 km/h it’s topped. After a full recharge cycle of just 4 hours, you can get somewhere around 100 km of range on the C Evolution.

With the occasion of promoting the BMW S1000 RR sport bike, the manufacturer decided to try something different than the usual commercial, especially considering how technology has evolved. For this reason, the Serviceplan company was chosen to add some subliminal advertising to the clip. See bellow the explanation and full ad.

The Munich-based company used what’s known as an after-image to print the BMW logo on the eyes of the audience that attended the experiment but the logo wasn’t visible on the screen and couldn’t be seen until Ruben Xaus, the star of the clip, gave the magic command “Close your eyes”. When the members of the audience closed their eyes, the logo instantly appeared to everyone’s amazement.

A lot of positive feedback was provided at the end of the screening and this may be an interesting way of promoting something without actually showing any logos. It will be interesting to see if BMW will integrate this in further screenings.

See bellow the same ad, but bear in mind the fact that it was screened in a cinema so you may not experience the same effect as those who whitnessed it firsthand.
