Just a while ago, CAR magazine issued a report according to which BMW and McLaren might be working on a supercar that would come out in 2017 and reach dealerships in 2019.

However, an updated info have just denied the aforementioned information, as the BMW M`s CEO has just stated to Motoring magazine in a press release, that such a joint project would never see the daylight.

Frank van Meel, the M`s CEO has denied the existence of a supercar developed by BMW and McLaren, which would be powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine, with two electric motors and an overall of 750 horsepower.

“We admire McLaren and we have obviously worked with them in the past, but there is nothing on the agenda,” van Meel also stated.

The denial is also based on the last statements of other CEOs from BMW, like Harald Kruger or Klaus Frohlic, the Director from BMW`s Research and Development department, who have also denied the existence of such a supercar. The whole idea is nothing but a prank.

On the other hand, Frank van Meel took advantage of the situation and also stated that BMW is ready to move forward with the next generation of the i8 plug-in hybrid or the all-electric i3, which are set to come with the most advanced technologies.

“The halo car of the entire BMW brand is the i8 and a lot of money and engineering has been invested in it. It will remain the only halo for its lifecycle,” van Meel also concluded.

BMW has recently announced that the M2 model will be available on the market in a couple of years, with the version sporting some tweaks from the track model M235i Racing.

The BMW has been playing with an M2 version ever since the 2-Series Coupe was introduced on the market, with the supercar model coming in 2016.

Thus, the upcoming BMW M2 would come with a more aggressive body taken from the M235i Racing, along with some fender flares, a hood bulge, air diffuser or quad exhaust arrangement.

Inside the super car, expect some bucket seats, carbon fiber trims or sport steering wheel.

Under the hood however, the new BMW M2 would be equipped with a 3.0-liter straight six-cylinder unit, developing around 400 horsepower.

The power will be sent to the rear wheels with the help of a six-speed manual transmission or an optional 8-speed automatic, offered along with a limited-slip differential.

The BMW M2 would become available in showrooms somewhere in 2016. More details will be revealed at the close moment of its launch.

I’m still hardly believing it but it seems that the Bavarians at BMW have yet another excellent piece of news for us brand enthusiasts.

Apparently, though it had been on and off for a while, BMW is actually going to make a successor to the iconic M1 supercar of the late 70s.

Despite having said they decided not to make it last year it seems that the recent worries about the i Range are encouraging them to decide against the decision.

The BMW M1 supercar will be introduced just after they unveil the brand new i8 hybrid range so maybe it’s not time to shout about the green cars being killed off.

As it stands, the schedule sees BMW unveil the M1 sometime in 2016 with no actual plan announced for the actual going on sale bit.

Nothing has been uttered on the interior, the final exterior look or the power. Whereas the first one is a full mystery, the design is expected to look a lot like the M1 Hommage concept.

As for the performance levels, there’s a fairly conventional kind of technology to consider. Nothing too fancy, nothing too electric or anything of the likes.

The mid-engined supercar will very likely come with a turbocharged V8 engine much like the one in the M Division’s products so far.

Most estimates see it produce some between 600 and 650 horsepower, having a top speed figure of 205 mph and costing around 250.000 euros.

We will wait and see, but frankly it doesn’t really matter as long as BMW make it and it doesn’t end up costing far more than any Ferrari model.

BMW’s i8 Spyder is now winking at us thanks to a couple of videos. No longer is the roadster version of the BMW i8 a static display .

The new promo videos must be the Bavarians’ way of reminding us how the Beijing Motor Show is coming up later this month.

This is important, because that’s what the BMW stand will have for a flagship concept. China’s market is quite important to BMW, as we keep finding out from recent sales results.

Even though the presentation may have changed, BMW’s i8 Spyder concept won’t see anything different on its body or performance.

It’s still a 131 horsepower electric motor teamed with a 1.5 liter three cylinder turbocharged engine producing another 223 horsepower.

As you’d imagine, the BMW i8 Spyder also retains the fuel economy and performance figures. It can manage 78 mpg on the US cycle and it develops a combined 354 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque.

Those latter figures will help the new BMW concept go from 0 to 60 in just 5 seconds and the top speed figure stands at a very German 155 mph.

I will say something though, the BMW i8 Spyder looks even better in videos than it does in photos. That fluid design is certainly something worth looking at.

Rolling in quietness on a roof parking lot is nice but the second part where you see at night is miles more impressive.

This is where you realize that the BMW i8 Spyder actually has the making of a serious posing machine. It doesn’t look like anything other than a supercar.

The Bavarians at BMW have plenty of new models in the pipeline and there’s a lot of controversy that is spinning around the rumors and announcements that emerge about them.

King of the hill among the importance and controversy levels as well we find the BMW i8. Being built to be some sort of hybrid supercar is just the half of it.

The most important part of the equation however is the styling. BMW have taken a few leaps of fate in recent years with design ideas and it seems they don’t plan to stop anytime soon.

Here’s the deal though, BMW fans and general car buying public have taken decently well to the iffy style as long as the driving pleasure and performance was still there.

Sadly though, BMW have some bad new about that segment of the i8’s future development. The M version of the hybrid supercar was dropped.

That could be a bit of a problem, because the BMW i8M or whatever it’s to be called, would have been a high performance version of the car that had no electric part in its propulsion.

It seems like even though the BMW i8 isn’t going to offer an M version, it will retain its flagship status for the Bavarian company.

Estimated figures for the BMW i8 come in at over €100.000 or roughly over 130.000 USD at current exchange rates.

That’s not a bad price for a BMW flagship but all i’m thinking that it would provide more than the 393 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque.

Those waiting for the Bavarians to make a brand new mid-engined super car are in for a bit of disappointment.

BMW hasn’t got any intention to do so and nor does their M division.

In a recent interview with egmcartech that situation was well and truly cleared.

As far as our favorite German company is concerned, the subject of a M1 successor did come into focus recently, but it didn’t get a greenlight.

Most of the discussions revolving around the new supercar came from the idea that BMW might want to try and fight the Audi R8 and the Mercedes SLS.

With these two targets set, BMW’s M division was faced with a choice between a front engine wedge supercar or one that had its engine in the middle. Neither made the mark for a variety of reasons.

A top of the line supercar isn’t in their plans. These decisions took place quite a while back (during the development of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe) but still stand today and for the near future.

BMW of North America’s M-Division Product Manager, Matt Russell, even went as far to say that this isn’t a big loss to the company.

In reality, BMW already makes supercars, it’s just that they also have an executive and practical side. Though it sounds a little like adspeak, Russell does have a point.

Your average BMW M5 buyer either gets enough of a kick from his car, or has some sort of track day machine already setup. There’s no need for a new BMW M1 to enter the picture.

We can hope and we can get enthusiastic about new concepts and possible unveiling news from the BMW M division but every now and again we have to be thought our place.

Having cleared some of the speculation on the F10 BMW M5, Albert Biermann head of product development for the Bavarian company’s M Division moved on to tell us a few extra things.

Sadly, much like we’ve been hearing about the M5, nothing he said this time is of any help or joy to those of us who are enthusiasts and not just fans.

To begin with, the big man said that there’s really no chance of us seeing a modern day version of the iconic BMW M1 supercar despite the concepts we’ve been getting.

No mid-engined BMW that’s built for fun exclusively, no BMW supercar that’s not corrupted by fuel economy ideas such as the i8 but most of all, no M Division only creation.

But hold on BMW and car enthusiasts, the bad news doesn’t end there as Biermann “warns” us about something equally terrible though if we’re honest, almost imminent.

An M badge may end up appearing on a diesel powered BMW and it may actually come around pretty soon.

Truth be told, I may be blowing this out of proportion at the moment, but the head of the BMW M division put the issue of a diesel wearing their badge as follows.

At the moment, good as they may have gotten, they don’t meet their standards, however, when those standards have been surpassed they will not have a drawback into using “the fuel of Satan” to power their creations.

Frankly, what makes it sadder than everything is that deep down inside, no matter how much us enthusiasts have been suppressing it, we knew something of the likes was coming.

This is because in the current automotive industry, at BMW, even within their M division new models boil down to something simple, a business case.

Something that a BMW M1 doesn’t have whereas an M spec diesel will almost certainly have when the time comes.

BMW fans have always found ways of revealing beautiful Photoshop concepts and not only, but the BMW M Concept is an example of how an R8 fighter should look like.

Who doesn’t love Audi R8 (especially the “power engine” lovers)? This beautiful concept was created by Idries Noah and it was specially designed to offer a better option for Audi R8, a car with 540 hp, 5.0 liter V10 engine and it was inspired by other amazing models like: Ferrari Dino, 250GTO and by many ideas from BMW’s M1 Hommage.

The “creator” of this beautiful model designed many of this M Concept elements being inspired by nature and by tuning elements, like the lateral sides, the rear and side view and modern front end. I really like what he did with its drawing and I think BMW design studio should have one talented designer like Idires Noah. Do you like it?
