The Detroit Motor Show is loaded with stuff. They have cars, and trucks and like minivans, but they also have awesome concept cars to show off.

BMW’s 4 Series Coupe Concept is not exactly a surprise and despite the branding, it’s not that much of a concept either.

What it is, is something truly awesome. Something BMW could not hide from this time is how the new 4 Series looks like in the real world.

Flood lights, lack of photoshop options and the absence of a stunning background scenery could easily detract from the new looking coupe.

Would the svelte body look “fatter” this way? Would the carefully planned out details and sculpted shapes lose charm when things are more hectic?

That could easily happen and we’ve seen it happen over time on various occasions. This isn’t the case though.

The F32 BMW 4 Series Coupe Concept looks just as stunning in these more difficult to control conditions and that’s not something to take away from the Bavarians.

When it comes to the real world, the concept status will be dropped, some genuine naming will replace it. We expect the BMW 428i and 435i to be the most popular versions.

Vehicles which do get the popularity vote will be those with sportier versions of the big 3.0 liter straight six cylinder engines.

So far, we’ve heard of the F32 BMW 440i being an option in the lineup and it could be such a taste of the wonderful things to come with the new M4.

BMW have promised that the next generation of the BMW Z4 will shake some of its grown up, GT feel and get back to the youthful sporty roadster experience with the next generation.

Until that happens, we’re to get an interesting surprise from the current E89 Z4 as it is going to receive an M Performance version.

In other words, there’s going to be a new lo call version of the BMW Z4 M of this generation, one that’s to foresee the sort of sportiness in store.

It should be quite the interesting project “but wait, there’s more” to know about this particular car. Sadly, it’s not to do with the details on it.

What it still known is how BMW plan to unveil this specially prepped M Performance roadster at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show.

There’s still four months or so until the event opens up but given the amount of work M Performance has been putting into cars until now that’s quite a quick release.

Everybody will be looking forward to the E89 BMW Z4 sDrive35iS which is expected to gain some 30-40 horsepower from it’s straight six turbocharged engine.

As always, there’s the option of a surprise and we could see an M Performance version of the sDrive28iS. That’s quite unlikely.

What has a bit of a probability is to see the suspension and handling characteristics revised alongside a set of aero parts rather than messing around with the cars too much.

You know how it is, people just keep on complaining, even when cars are as good as BMW has been making them for several decades now.

The newest complain people keep having is about the way the cars have been getting bigger and heavier constantly. For all the plus points of today’s car that’s sadly true.

The 90’s E39 BMW 5 Series is actually smaller than the newest generation of the F30 BMW 3 Series. So what are people are to do when they want a sporty compact sedan?

Unfortunately, they’re pretty much stuck. Don’t worry though, BMW is once again coming to the rescue.

For all my caring of them that may not be exactly the case, the BMW 1 Series sedan will actually be a bit of a late model to get to see.

Mercedes will be introducing a CLA compact late next year while BMW and Audi will have their replies ready sometime in 2014.

By then, they’ll most likely be using 2015 modelyear. Frankly, that’s not the biggest thing to be concerned about with the 1 Series sedan.

We can hope that it will be the finest choice in the segment, but we can’t hope it still has something amazingly BMW inside.

As most reports indicate, by then, the BMW 1 Series will be ditching the beloved RWD setup for a wrong front wheel drive one.

It could be as fun as possible but we still know that something is missing. Will added practicality be enough to fill the void?

We’re not yet sure what internal designation BMW will use for it but they’ve unveiled the three door version of the F20 BMW 1 Series hatchback.

There’s a lot of interesting stuff to consider with this new launch but there’s quite the set of details that are worth appreciating.

The Bavarians haven’t messed about with trickling in the engine versions or trim levels they’re making available upon launch.

All the powerplants are here, both fuel types are here, and, most importantly, the hot, M135i, version is also launched in a synchronized manner.

Getting back to the most important selling point; the F20’s three door version is the fact that it has the same size as the five door option.

That means that even though access to the rear seats is somewhat compromised, the space available to rear seat occupants hasn’t.

Showing off value goes up as the front doors are now pillar-less and are proof of more interest in a sporty looking vehicle on top of anything else.

The new launch of the BMW 1 Series three door also meant that the Bavarians could give us an announcement on the whole lineup of the 1 series.

In the near future we’re going to see some xDrive love for the smallest of the BMW family. No specifics on the release but some idea of the models that will get it.

Whenever the xDrive system will be available on the 1 Series it’ll be the 120d and the M135i that will be getting it first.

As we know, we don’t exactly live in a world of supercars. We don’t really live in a world of green econoboxes either and nor do we see executive saloons everywhere.

These days, just about everybody seems to be making some sort of SUV, SAV, crossover or any hybrid contraption in between them.

We know that sometime in about two years BMW will introduce something that looks like the render above. A new model that’ll likely be called the BMW X4.

Picking up some of the slack off the demand the BMW X6 SAV can’t keep up with, the new car coupe look-a-like crossover will be closer in size to the X3.

When it hits the market, the new bimmer would be a main rival for genuinely sporty looking crossovers such as the Range Rover Evoque and Porsche’s upcoming Cajun Macan.

In terms of performance, we’ll likely see the BMW X4 behave a lot like the X3 but with a bit of a more aerodynamic and lighter body, things are looking up.

What might make a considerable difference on that front, apart from the choice of engine, will be the choice of transmission.

BMW will reportedly offer a six speed manual, a seven speed dual clutch and the eight speed auto. Each will behave differently.

I’m not the BMW X6′ biggest fan but I have to say, if this rendering turns out to be accurate, the X4 could be quite a sweet looker. Even if a bit like Lamborghini Urus.

When it does come to the market, BMW expects to sell the X4 big time, this is why the Spartanburg production plant will be churning out more than 150.000 units per year.

Seeing how the BMW X6 has had a tremendous success, the Bavarians are seriously considering the creation of a smaller brother for it.

Since it’s launch back in 2008 the BMW X6 has sold over 80.000 units so it would only make sense to make a smaller, more affordable version of it.

The BMW X6 has been even more controversial then all of the styling decisions made by Chris Bangle a few years ago as almost nobody seemed to understand the concept  behind the car. Nevertheless the sales figure speak for themselves and they make up the best proof behind the demand for sporty off-roaders.

While the X4 hasn’t gotten the green light yet, actually, it doesn’t even have this name yet. What it could be is a car based on the X3 platform, that would draw stylistic inspiration from the X6, obviously, and from the X Coupe Concept presented in 2001.

Since BMW has been responsible for creating niche products such as the 5 Series GranTurismo or the BMW X1 the X4 could well be soon coming to a dealership near you. How soon? Well possibly around the same time the BMW Gran Coupe hits the market in 2012.
