The BMW German luxury car manufacturer is on a continuous expansion with its range of products and new series of vehicles.

Because of its success in the US, the automaker plans to expend its plant at Spartanburg, South Carolina, since the company is aiming to offer other new product vehicles like a future BMW X7.

The Spartanburg plant will be expanded, investing around several hundred million dollars to start building the presuming BMW X7.

The announcement will be officially made at the press conference today in the US, at the company`s plant in Spartanburg, where a lot of important staff members will be also attending.

We are talking about the presence of Dr. Norbert Reithofer, the BMW Group Chairman, the US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker, Governor of South Carolina Nikki Haley.

Other important people, like the Head of the Global Production Network, Harald Krueger, who is also a member of the company`s board, as well as Manfred Erlacher, which is president of BMW Manufacturing, will be attending the press conference.

Some interwebs and BMW geeks have recently posted interesting images with the F25 X3 LCI receiving some facelifts and some changes to the interior too. The BMW X3 will be facing the market in June 2014.

The leaked photos reveal some changes made to the front-end, meaning that the X3 would receive full-LED headlights and a revised bumper.

Inside the cabin, the BMW X3 features the new iDrive Touch system, along with updated trims.

Under the hood, there seem to be no major changes on the engine. Still, the BMW X3`s fans can opt between the four and the six-cylinder engines in petrol and diesel.

On the US market, the engines should be carried out with a choice between a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and the 3.0-liter TwinPower six-cylinder.

Still, for the first time in the US market, the BMW X3 will receive a diesel engine, starting with the first half of 2014.
Even if it is not confirmed, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine will be put on the midsize premium SAV.

The production of the F25 BMW X3 facelift will start in April at the German Spartanburg plant in South Carolina.

At the BMW plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, USA, plans are in motion to bring the fuel of the future one step closer to everyday use. In collaboration and co-funded by the US Department of Energy, BMW started a project to extract hydrogen from the methane gas produced in landfills.

To do this, they employed a system to remove contaminants from the methane that is ultimately transformed into hydrogen via the SMR (steam methane reformer). Later this year, BMW will test the performance of the hydrogen they obtained from garbage compared to that from commercial sources.

BMW already uses this fuel source to power almost 38 percent of the plant. The plant’s hydrogen storage and delivery system has also been upgraded, now being able to provide around 400 kg of hydrogen each day. On the assembly line, more hydrogen-powered equipment has been added to the fleet, like fork lifts and motorized carts, bringing the total up to 230 units.

The german car maker is determined to find new ways to produce energy, and this project certainly proves it. Although electricity gets a lot of attention these days as a “clean” fuel, it is still produced by oil or coal burning plants. But hydrogen as fuel is truly clean, and so I wish BMW the best of luck in their endeavors.

BMW is not content with having the global crown for sales in the luxury department, they want to win over the American market by moving them away from Lexus and in order to achieve this they are pushing their BMW Individual program.

Basically what they want stateside buyers to do is to buy a car with what they want on it in terms of trim levels instead of just buying what the dealer has to offer at a particular time. Since the next car they will be launching in the U.S. is the 2011 BMW X3 that will be the one that they plan on starting this car buying revolution with.

This form of sales helps BMW with their projections and inventory but it also helps you get the car you wanted and it is a system that is successfully applied in Europe where almost 50% of all BMW’s sold are custom ordered.

This isn’t as simple as it sounds since Americans enjoy the idea of hitting a dealer showroom and leaving with a car off that lot the same day so if BMW will want the higher profit margins and the reduction in inventory they’ll have to be innovative here.

So in order to make this a reality the new BMW X3’s production will be moved from Austria to the recently expanded Spartanburg plant in South Carolina. Building the crossovers here will allow BMW to drastically cut delivery times and BMW will also be more heavily promoting its factory delivery program and the driving classes it offers at the nearby Performance Driving School.
