BMW had a good run last years, with new models to break cover, new factories to build, billions of dollars to spend on investments and millions of vehicles to sell worldwide. And it seems that the carmaker has entered this year in big style, managing to come up with the best sales so far.

According to press.bmwgroup, the carmaker already managed to deliver 163,288 worldwide, representing a 6.8 percent growth as opposed to the same period last year. As for the Group`s sales, there were also impressive growth as well. Please find below the official figures released by the aforementioned BMW magazine.

BMW`s Sales for January 2017, compared with previous year:

BMW Group Automotive sales up 6.8%, to 163,288 vehicles delivered worldwide.
BMW sales up 7.2%, to 143,553.
MINI sales up 3.7% to 19,563.
BMW Mottorad sales up 0.2%, to 7,503.
BMW electrified models double sales in January.
Sales growth achieved in all world regions.

Speaking about the company`s impressive sales figures for this year`s start, Dr. Ian Robertson, Member of the BMW AG Board of Management, has also declared:

“We’ve started the year well, building on the success of 2016. We’re confident that the new models we’re bringing to market this year, especially the new generation BMW 5 Series which is about to arrive in dealerships, will ensure further momentum as the year goes on. We continue to focus on profitability and sustainable levels of growth distributed around the world.”

Withing the BMW Group, most sales were achieved thanks to the high-demands for models like BMW X1, BMW 3-Series, 5-Series and 7-Series, while BMW`s electrified segment included the BMW i range, BMW iPerformance vehicles, as well as the new BMW 530e iPerformance.

When BMW decided to go front-wheel drive with the new 2-Series Active Tourer and Grand Tourer, that was a risky decision but it seems that the German carmaker knows how to gamble.

And we could tell that it hit the jackpot, as both models are selling extremely well in Europe, managing a third place, after Citroen and Volkswagen Touran.

JatoDnamics via AutoNews has issued a recent report according to which BMW managed to sell 77,644 of the 2-Series Active Tourer and Grand Tourer models in the European Union and Europe Free Trade Association, or simply put EFTA, being outrun only by Citroen with the C4 Picasso and Grand Picasso, with 85,390 units, as well as by Volkswagen Touran, with 88,169 vehicles.

In case you want to know which carmaker takes fourth place in Europe and EFTA, this is occupied by Ford, with the C-MAX and Grand-Max, with 64,016 units sold, shortly followed by Mercedes-Benz B-Class, with 56,325. The account refer to the period between January and September.

As a reminder, the BMW 2-Series Active Tourer & Grand Tourer were officially launched at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, both versions being the first ones to come with a front-wheel drive, a premiere which seemed to upset BMW customers that loved the rear-wheel drive setup.

Both versions stand on the company`s new UKL front-wheel drive platform, the same one found on the all-new X1 or MINI models, meaning that they come with improved and more lightweight materials and increase space inside for passengers and their luggage.

The CSL version from the E46 BMW M3 was a real impressive ride that used to turn a lot of heads whenever cruising in style and revving its engine on the roads, and there are still models that can be bought at the right price.

There are a lot of advantages owning such a car. First of all, it is one of the 1,383 units ever built and second, it comes with just 20,200 miles on board, so we are practically dealing with almost a brand new car. Not to mention the heavy styling mods carried out and which makes it even more appealing and standout. Hence the hefty price.

As opposed to the regular model, this lad here is more lightweight, thanks to the carbon fiber-reinforced plastic materials, meaning that it weighs 10 percent less than the original 3,054 pounds. The model comes with unique features like GFP roof panel with front bumper, while the rear features the same carbon fiber-reinforced plastic on the bumper supports. Also, the rear window glass has been also replaced, now looking much thinner.

The struggle for supremacy in the auto industry between BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Toyota`s luxury brand Lexus is a close one, each one trying to score as much as higher sales in the United States.

With its ups and downs, BMW still manages to remain on top regarding June`s overall sales. Even if it has dropped nearly 10.3 percent as opposed to last year`s June with 32,176 units, it still sold 28,473 units.

Overall, officials from BMW stated that the company`s sale in the United States in the first half of the year are 9.0 percent down, with 153,436, compared to 168,623 units being sold in the same half of the 2015.

CEO BMW of North America Ludwig Willisch, has also declared that “The mid-point to the year always brings some uncertainty about what may be ahead in the second half.”

BMW managed to sale high thanks to the high demand of its sedan and sports car segments, while Mercedes-Benz mostly relied on expanding its SUV lineup, a fact that was clearly seen in the first half`s sales.

On the other hand, Lexus sold 25,779 units last June, going down 1.3 percent and reaching so far 151,564 units. Jeff Bracken, vice president and general manager at Lexus, also said that “Lexus maintained its strength in the luxury SUV segment with a particularly strong sales month for RX and NX as both models have momentum with consumers.”

BMW and Mercedes-Benz have been on a constant duel concerning the supremacy of the luxury segment for many years, and now the latter might lose the close battle in favor of BMW, which reported a 3.2 percent in sales this November, as opposed to last November.

On the other hand, Mercedes-Benz falls behind for the same period, managing 13 percent sales, with just 30,043 units being sold in the US, and a total of 308,885 cars for the entire year. BMW managed to sell 32,003 vehicles, consolidating its leading position with 311,298 vehicles sold throughout the whole year.

To sum up, BMW leads this year`s sales with 2,513 vehicles over Mercedes-Benz, out of which 555 units being sold at the end of October.

Lexus is the third carmaker to achieve a 7 percent rise in November, with 29,340 vehicles sold, gaining an overall 12 percent for the entire year, as opposed to last year, with a total of 303,221 vehicles.

Asked if Lexus poses any threat for the remaining period of 2015, Eric Lyman, TrueCar Vice President, stated that “it’s something they could manage if they were willing to go nuts on incentives. But I can’t see them doing that just to get the sales crown.”

The recently unveiled 2016 BMW M2 Coupe will start production this November, but the European customers will have the change of buying it in April, next year.

Good news for BMW`s fans, as the German based carmaker will start production of the new M2 Coupe in November, with deliveries to begin next year.

In case you wonder how much it will cost, than you should know that the model will come with different prices, depending the country where it will be sold. As expected, the model will first hit Europe and will have a base price of 56,700 euros. In the United Kingdom, the model will cost 44,000 GBP.

As a reminder, the 2016 BMW M2 Coupe comes with an extremely hot design built by the car`s M division. The model is fitted with the new low front apron with larger air intakes, the M gills and twin-tailpipe exhaust, as well as the 19-inch double-spoke wheels.

Inside, the M signature is also visible on the coupe`s Dakota Black leather steering wheel, sports seats, door sills, footrest, gearshift level and so on.

Under the hood, the 2016 M2 Coupe is fitted with a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine, which outputs 370 horsepower and 465 Nm of torque.

The engine can be equipped with a six-speed manual, allowing a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. The optional seven-speed M Double Clutch transmission with Drivelogic helps the M2 reach 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds. The topping also stands at 250 km.

Without a doubt, the past six months have been market by a fierce competition taken by BMW on the most important markets throughout the world.

Keeping Audi and Mercedes Benz under scrutiny as main competitors, winning various prizes for different auto categories on numerous contest, the famous German car maker somehow managed to stay on top.

Consequently, the sales numbers for the first six months of 2013 are looking great, placing BMW ahead of the previously mentioned Audi and Mercedes.

Of course, all three German brands are doing well, yet we cannot help but notice how BMW is taking the highest leap, being the only one to outnumber the threshold of 800.000 units sold in half of year.

To be more specific, BMW sold 954.521.000 by the end of June, a number that sets an 8% increase as compared to the numbers from last year. And to make everything even better, analysts claim it will continue to stay on top for the following months as well.

Wondering about competitors? Long story short, Audi sold 780.500 units and Mercedes Benz 694.000 units.

These guys are not messing around. After registering a great year in sales back in 2012 they’re simply looking to improve further in 2013.

After 2012’s 11% increase to a total of 1.85 million cars worldwide, the Bavarians are now targeting an even higher threshold.

This year has the promise of being a new record setter for them, building up on the momentum as well as the new products about to be introduced.

Throughout the group there’s bound to be quite a lot of releases, the F32 4 Series being the headline for me. The i3 eco-mobile is also bound to be coming about later in the year.

I was the one hoping for the new M3 and M4 coming in this year, but greed never really helped people since back in the eighties.

At least we can console ourselves with the fun promised by the new compact coupe in town, the F22 BMW 2 Series and its properly great fun in a petit package.

BMW sales and marketing boss Ian Robertson is also quite excited about the business perspective of the new year as BMW have opened up new plants and plan to ramp up production.

Breaching into new markets, building on a strong portfolio, increasing the marketing efforts is not only how they plan to take sales to a new level but also keep the competition at bay.

Audi and Mercedes are going stronger and stronger so staying one step ahead is probably as big a challenge as setting a new personal best.

Playing the sales games is something that BMW is clearly apt at but it’s also something they’re ready to share information about.

Within their company at least, things seem to be passed about. The corporate folks have just released some information on what their motorcycle division should do.

Knowing all this stuff, BMW Motorrad posted some clearly capable results with 2012 having gone out the window. December in particular was a success.

That’s not to say that the rest of the year was shoddy but it seems highly unlikely that a season reserved for cold and snow sells a lot of bikes.

Compared to December 2011, there was a 43.4% sales increase last month. Now that’s not something to sniff at, even if you’re BMW.

When analyzing the entire year from a global perspective, a growth factor of 2% remains. That translates into a record setting 106.358 motorcycles and maxi scooters sold.
The Husqvarna division also did brilliantly as it managed to up its game by 15.7% compared to what they have on record for 2011.

A few models did stand out among the two-wheeled runners of the company, these are the R1200GS, the F800GS and the S1000RR.

The F800GS was always a steady seller and the R1200GS’ air-cooled has sent into the garages of a lot of new owners.

Next year it’s going for liquid cooling so it might attract even more enthusiasts. Speaking of which, the S1000RR surprised by managing nearly 9000 units.

That really is remarkably, given the fact that we’re talking about a superbike that really loves hitting track days above anything else.

One figure had escaped us from 2012. Now that the figures have started to come in, the Bavarians are once again on top.

We’re talking about the sales in the luxury segment, of course. This is where BMW have beaten their closest rival Mercedes, at the end of last year.

The three pointed star had been trailing for quite some time and it even managed to get a couple of months in the lead but when it was all done, they had to settle for the silver.

BMW finished last year with 281.460 cars sold. This has put them ahead of Mercedes by a surprisingly small figure of 7.326 units.

The growth is remarkable since Bavaria’s finest have actually been lagging behind Mercedes at the end of November. Back then the gap was 1,849 units.

Eventually, the total for Mercedes came in at 274.134 units, a growth of 12% compared to the previous year. Pretty good, but compared to BMW’s sales rise of 14 percent, it’s a little laggy.

The December deciders of the new sales figures where the more popular sedans in the bunch. The BMW 5 Series and the E Class enjoyed much increased sales.

32 percent, or 6.984 units more where sold of the E Class and that accounted for 9% of the company’s growth. As to be expected, it was better for BMW.

It was actually much better since the F10 BMW 5 Series sales went up by a chunky 72 percent, being a considerable part of the 37.399 cars they moved last month.
