There is no doubt that BMW needed some serious purging in the M lineup, and after announcing the arrival of the BMW M4 CS in a matter of months, the Bavarian carmaker is reportedly planning to release the all-new M2 Competition which would replace the present M2.

According to a new report, the BMW M2 will be ditched in favor of the long-expected M2 Competition, which would be officially unveil on April 25, prior to the Beijing Auto Show.

That being said, the new 2018 M2 Competition will be more muscular in design and more powerful than the current M2. And that until the German carmaker will released the top notch M2 GTS in 2019, with performance worthy of the M4`s newly announced GTS.

We are not sure how the new 2018 BMW M2 Competition will look like, but given the last year`s renderings with the model (which can be seen below), we could depict heavy use of carbon fiber, which will make it lightweight and more powerful.

We expect revised styling bits, with carbon fiber front and rear aprons, aggressive lip spoiler on the trunk-lid and more standout rear diffuser.

As for performance under the hood, the new M2 Competition is set to come with similar figures as its big brother the M4. It will actually use the S55 inline-six engine but will come with a detuned power. According to recent reports, we expect around 404 horsepower, which is quite impressive, given the M4`s stock 425 horsepower.

As for transmission, it is more than likely that it will use the same seven-speed dual-clutch as standard, while the manual transmission will become optional. That would enhance the car`s sprint from 0 to 100 km/h from 4.3 seconds in the current state, to just 4.0 seconds in the M2 Competition guise. Just like the M2 or M3/M4, the new M2 Competition will also come with an electronically limited speed of 250 km/h.

Slowly but surely, the supremacy of the BMW M2 Coupe might fade away along with the arrival of the much more fun to drive CS, or Competition, as it is also called; its real name is yet to be decided.

Seen in dozens of leaked images and spy photos, the future BMW M2 CS is the new kid on the block, the M model coming with advanced characteristics at the exterior and plenty of new high-tech gizmos inside the cabin.

With design details already to be announced, there are also great news according to which the all-new BMW M2 CS will feature new body wraps. We are looking here at two new colours – Silver Hockenheim and Sunset Orange – which will be added to the rest of the lineup – Alpine White, Mineral Grey, Long Beach Blue Metallic and Black Sapphire.

As for interior, the new M2 CS will come with contrast stitching in Kyalami Orange or Polar Blue, which will perfectly complement the cabin`s Dakota black leather upholstery or perforated leather. Other hot features also refer to M Sport Seats or M Sport Brakes.

As for powertrain under the hood, the upcoming BMW M2 CS or Competition will be equipped with a 3.0-liter S55 petrol burner, the same one found on the M4 Sedan or M4 Coupe, developing 405 horsepower. The new M model will also use a six-speed manual or a seven-speed M-DCT transmission.

The car`s official name – M2 CS or M2 Competition – will be known towards the end of the year, with prices to be set prior to its debut in 2018. Speaking of prices, rumors also have it that it will cost $10,000 to $15,000 more than the current BMW M2 Coupe.

German carmaker BMW released the M2 Coupe last year, the model gradually becoming one of the most important rides in the tuning world, and that because of its extremely advanced aerodynamics and evolutionary design.

The car`s body style is fully tweaked with the M Performance Parts, making it extremely lightweight and increasing its performance figures. It was also fitted with the M Performance exhaust system in some markets, also allowing for a wilder engine growl.

However, there are plenty of tuners that prefer removing the M Performance exhaust system in favour of the Akrapovic`s high-performance exhaust, which allows for increase power and quite astonishing engine soundtrack. The video below is trying to compare both exhaust systems that the model can be had with.

The M Performance Exhaust system adds a lot of noise and driving thrill to the gorgeous M2 Coupe and the aforementioned spicy prices wouldn’t be an issue for a real BMW lover.

There is no doubt that the M2 Coupe can be visibly improved by tuners, with different aftermarket parts and new mechanics. Is indeed the Akrapovic`s exhaust much better and more impressive than the M Performance exhaust? It is up to you to find out in the video below.

As a reminder, the 2016 BMW M2 Coupe is equipped with a 3.0-liter M TwinPower Turbo inline flat-six engine, churning out 370 horsepower and 465 Nm of torque. This is enough to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds with a DCT and 4.5 seconds with the manual.

MotorTrend are well-known for their remarkable test drives and videos, putting together exciting cars with plenty of power and advanced aerodynamic.

And even if the BMW M2 Coupe is no match for the less powerful Chevy Camaro V6 with the 1LE package, it is still a fun video to see both hot models in action.

On the other hand, if we were to compare both cars` mechanics, the Chevy Camaro V6 definitely bits up the M2 Coupe, coming as well with plenty of high-performance bits and technical bits.

Starting with the BMW M2 Coupe, the model packs a 3.0-liter turbocharged I6 engine, developing 365 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, enabling a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds. It is also wrapped with plenty of M Performance Parts, which makes it quite lightweight. As for the prices involved, it is also more expensive than the Chevy Camaro with around $17,000, for a total value of $55,000.

On the other hand, the Chevy Camaro V6 1LE is equipped with a 3.6-liter naturally aspirated V6 with 335 horsepower and 284 lb-ft of torque, allowing the same sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.0 seconds. However, the sports car comes with plenty of new mechanics, like updated brakes, sportier suspension system, and so on.

With all these improvements, according to MotorTrend`s Jason Cammisa states that the Chevy Camaro`s huger body style provides a big disadvantage compared to the M2 Coupe`s smaller design, which confers increase aerodynamics and improved driving capabilities.

Whenever Dinan tuner pops-up online in a new project, especially if it is about a BMW M2, it has got to be something special, especially from what we have seen so far: powerful M2s with impressive upgrades under the hood.

Digital Trends auto magazine has recently had the chance of driving such a powerful model fine-tuned by Dinan, which is called the M2 S2, reffering to the car`s upgrade program under the hood. It also comes with impressive mechanics and characteristics that make the M2 a genuine racer.

According to Dan McNiff, who was interviewed by Digital Trends, the new model handles extremely well and is well-balanced while being on the road at high-speed. He also praised the car`s aerodynamics, stating:

“In stock trim the M2 is a well-rounded vehicle. It harkens back to the E36/E46 M3 days where the car was about balance in power and handling with a footprint that let nimbleness be a major contributing factor. Whereas most new cars have simply gotten bigger, softer, and try to compensate with more output, the M2 bucks that trend. We wanted to really emphasize what sets the M2 apart as a driver’s car while maintaining that overall sense of a well-rounded vehicle that is not simply all about a lot of power or creature comforts.”

As for the car`s main highlight under the hood, the BMW M2 Coupe by Dinan comes with an ECU remapping, which is considered the most important part of the car`s core. James Leong, also CEO at Dinan, has explained the importance of the new power kit:

“The backbone of any tuned setup is the engine tune itself, which allows optimization of boost, air, fuel, and lambda targets among other variables. The compressor wheel inside the turbocharger is increased in size allowing around 30 percent greater flow, thus enabling additional boost pressures at higher engine speeds while retaining efficiency. These are rebuilt factory turbos that are machined to Dinan specifications, along with an upgraded thrust system to ensure reliable and prolonged life.”

Thanks to the new power stage, the car`s engine is now capable of outputting an impressive 446 horsepower and 458 lb-ft of torque, allowing a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in less the standard figures. Unfortunately, the tuner has not revealed any details on that. Not just yet!

One of those contenders that appears on the list is no other than the gorgeous BMW M2 Coupe.

In their official review, journalists from Automobile Magazine have praised the exquisite features of the BW M2 Coupe, connecting it with its predecessor, the E30 M3, which needed to be reborn like the Phoenix into a completely new car.

And this is what really happened with the BMW M2 Coupe, the model coming as “super sporty in all aspects,” as contributor Ronald Ahrens mentioned. On the other hand, Steven Cole Smith, another contributor for the magazine, has also declared that “Just when you thing BMW has lost the thread, they find it again and wrap it around the competition.”

Others from Automobile Magazine praise the car`s high-performance six-speed manual, “not a perfect” one, “but very organic.”

It is not unusual for an aftermarket shop to take its newly customized project out for some testing after the final touches were put on. It is exactly what happened with the below BMW M2 Coupe, after Vorsteiner wrapped it with their special wheels, and then taking it out in the mountains for some rough cornering.

Even if we were used to seeing the aftermarket specialist from Vorsteiner carrying out extensive aero packages on different BMW products, this time their program was limited to just the wrapping of new wheels.

Even so, a new set of aftermarket wheels was everything that the M2 Coupe needed, the car already looking menacing with the stock M Performance Parts. So here we are with the tuner`s special alloy wheels which increase the car`s driving capabilities.

We are dealing here with the tuner`s new V-FF 107 alloy wheels, sized 20 x 9 up front and 20 x 10.5 at the back, and finished in Carbon Graphite, which perfectly complement the car`s Mineral Grey Metallic exterior.

With the new wheels, the BMW M2 Coupe is now ready to tackle the heavy roads it was put to tackle, helped of course by the same stock yet high-performance 3.0-liter straight-six engine with BMW`s TwinPower Turbo technology, which churns out 350 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. This allows an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds, when paired to a seven-speed M Dual Clutch Transmission.

Most of the exquisite customizations that are found today in the tuning segment, especially when it comes to fine-tuning BMW products, were developed thanks to models like the M2 Coupe, and that is because its extremely simple yet evolutionary design allows for easy make-overs that would transform them into fine art.

And we have seen hundreds of special projects which involved the baby-M, done and built by famous aftermarket shops, but there are some out there which have made a habit out creating and recreating custom-built programs for this outstanding model.

The latest comes from Vorsteiner, one of the leading companies in the wheel industry, which has dressed up the M2 Coupe seen below in Mineral Gray, with its latest wheels. The result is a more aggressive look and meaner attitude.

The project is not too extravagant or anything, as it enhances its driving capabilities and increases its overall stance. However, the model can also be taken out for a spin in a crowded city or just play with it in a professional photo session.

Whenever a new or a limited-run edition is about to be launched on the market, the carmaker does the necessary arrangements to see it in the order books first, and that was exactly what happened earlier today with BMW USA, which announced the M2 Performance Edition in US dealerships.

Once arriving in dealerships across country, the BMW M2 Coupe Performance Edition will be available in a limited-run of just 150 vehicles, each one being priced at an MSRP of $61,695.

You can spot it under the code ZL9, the all-new 2017 M2 M Performance Edition coming with plenty of new features that will differentiate it from the stock model. We are looking here at a suite of M Performance Parts from BMW`s catalog, at the exterior as well as inside the cabin.

From a visual standpoint, the 2017 BMW M2 M Performance Edition comes with the splendid Alpine White body wrap, adding black kidney grilles and black side gills, M Performance exhaust system with titanium tips, black mirror caps, as well as the high-performance M Performance coil-over suspension system which lowers the car` ride height for increased stance.

Inside, the cabin wears the same M signature, including M Performance illuminated door sill, adding as well new tweaks like manually adjustable sport seats, keyless entry, one-zone automatic climate control, audio system, LED door projectors and a few more.

The BMW M2 Coupe and the Porsche 918 Boxster S are two extraordinary sports cars that can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in blink of an eye, especially because of their small chassis and improved aerodynamics.

Recently, both models were engaged into a drag race, highlighted in the video below. The video was put together by CarMagazine in what they call the annual “Performance Shootout”, illustrating thus the raw power of the two models.Before jumping into the wrong conclusions and placing your bets on one of the model, just take a closer look at what each car has to offer in terms of performance.

To start with the BMW M2 Coupe, the carmaker`s “baby-M” and the preferred one for dozens of tuning companies worldwide, comes with a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged straight-six engine underneath its skin, capable of squeezing out 365 horsepower and 465 Nm of torque, and being sent to the rear via a seven-speed DCT.

It can deliver a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in a blasting 4.4 seconds, at a top speed of 250 km/h. Otherwise, the model comes fitted with the M Performance Parts at the exterior, which also increase its agility and driving dynamics.

On the other hand, the Boxster 718 Boxster S in its latest generation uses the brand-new 2.5-liter flat-four turbocharged pot, churning out 345 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque, with a 4.5 seconds achieved from 0 to 100 km/h, via a conventional automatic transmission.

However, if fitted with the optional Sport Chrono package and the high-performance PDK transmission, the sports car is able to deliver the same sprint in a blasting 4.2 seconds. The car`s main advantage is that it is around 150 kg much more lightweight than the M2 Coupe, a real deal that can make the difference in a drag race with the right driver behind the steering.
