One of the two special editions of the X1 prepared for an American debut, it was the K2 Powder Ride Concept that got center stage at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The name is a bit of a giveaway as to what exactly the X1 Concept K2 Powder Ride is about. It’s meant for those who are enthusiasts of the white powder.

The sort you ski on, not fly on, so while it doesn’t come with a glove compartment full of drugs, it comes with a few treats for the mountain sport enthusiast.

While Los Angeles is among the least likely places in the world where snow is to be seen, there are plenty winter enthusiasts around.

What they will find on the X1 Concept K2 Power Ride is just about the minimum you need to get to a winter resort without breaking out the shovel.

The suspension was raised by 0.3 inches, the wheels are 19 inch special alloys and come with appropriate winter tires and all weather floor mats.

A lot of the winter specific action is centered around the carrying ability. The roof rails come with a ski box and there’s a custom snowboard bag included.

Inside you’ll also be able to find some more youthful treates such as an advanced Harman Kardon sound system, and ambient lighting to bathe the interior in a warm glow.

When serious winter hits, you’ll be thankful for its presence in your car every morning. The BMW X1 Concept K2 Powder Ride will go on sale this winter in the US.

It wasn’t that long ago that BMW sent their X1 crossover to the market here in Europe. A couple of years go by quickly but for the Americans it was a long wait.

That long time is nearing an end as the X1 is prepped for a US market launch. To celebrate this, the Bavarians will also be releasing two new special editions.

Branding for them isn’t really their best feature as the mouthful presentation includes Concept K2 Power Ride and X1 Power Ride Edition.

Seems legit. Every single owner is going to recall the name of the car right? After all, it’s the same brand that came up with the BMW Z4 sDrive35iS.

Fortunately, the cars themselves are simpler to explain. The K2 Power Ride Concept is built to celebrate a partnership with K2, the sport equipment gurus.

This version stands out courtesy of a few exterior tweaks, quite a lot of interior ones and a general all weather feel.

An increased ride height of 19 inches might give you some extra confidence when it comes to hitting the ski resort. Pricing isn’t mentioned but it looks like it has the makings of “one of those”.

If you’re feeling more in touch with reality, there’s the BMW X1 Power Ride Edition. This is an X-line trim car with a 460 roof box with the base support system.

The same car also offers up a few interior upgrades like improved upholstery, lighting and generally used materials.

What I find impressive about the whole thing is that the X1 Power Ride will only be available in the winter of 2012 as a limited edition.

We’ve still got a couple of solid months of snow in most areas around the globe, why not have a weekend away skiing?

Sounds great, but there’s just one problem; on the slopes you can’t really show off your love for BMW products. None of them can actually manage such an off-road excursion.

Thanks to a partnership with sporting good manufacturer K2, the Bavarians now have a considerable presence on the icy slopes.

The new product is called the K2 LTD BMW M Design Editions skis and they’re based on the K2 SideShow units, thus are high quality stuff.

By high quality, we mean that the BMW M performance will not be shamed by any other skis, those sliding babies were designed to work on all sorts of hill conditions.

Not only that, the BMW M branded skis are supposed to be top of the line performing products, just like the cars the Germans actually make.

I for one am not exactly a big fan of branded products that don’t really have much to do with the cars themselves, regardless of the company that makes them.

This set of K2 M performance is actually not for sale, they’re only going to be making 500 pairs and they will all be given away as prizes.

Getting one however is unusual as you’ll have to collect some BMW badges from the 13 locations spread over Europe in various winter locations.

Therefore, you need to be a BMW M performance enthusiast as well as a proper skiing nut before you get a chance at redeeming the prize.
