BMW Australia announced yesterday the introduction of the gorgeous 2018 BMW 6-Series GT (Gran Turismo), an exceptionally fun-to-drive car with impressive high-performance capabilities.

Australian customers will be able to choose between two variants: the 630i GT, available at $123,500, as well as the top of the line 640i xDrive GT, which comes with a higher $148,900 price tag.

As we can depict from the media gallery below, the all-new 2018 BMW 6-Series Gran Turismo comes with a bigger body style; after all, we are looking here at the official replacement of the 5-Series GT; and it is supposed to be bigger and wider, just like any other new model within the carmaker`s lineup.

Speaking of sizes, the new 2018 6-Series GT is now 87mm longer and 20mm lower, providing the model with better grip and stability. The space boot is also increased to 610 liters, with the rear seats folded down.

Inside, the cabin welcomes you with the same luxurious feel BMW has to offer at this point, like leather upholstery and contrast stitching.

Technologically, the brand-new 6-Series Gran Turismo is state of the art, being equipped with the same high-tech suite as its European counterparts.

We are dealing here with the newest iDrive6 media interface with 10.25-inch touchscreen, along with 12.3-inch digital display for the instrument cluster, 16-speaker Harman/Kardon sound system, dual-climate zone climate control and so on.

Those looking for the M Sport Package, will be able to have the new 6-Series GT equipped with M goodies, like 19-inch M alloy wheels, M Sport braking system or active rear spoiler.

In the engine department, the 2018 BMW 6-Series Gran Turismo comes with a 2.0-liter turbo flat-four petrol burner in the 630i GT standard version, developing 190 kW and 400 Nm of torque. This makes it quite fast from 0 to 100 km/h – 6.3 seconds.

The topper 640i xDrive GT features a higher 3.0-liter turbo inline six-cylinder mill, with 250 kW and 450 Nm of torque. The same sprint is done in 6.3 seconds.

Considered the spiritual successor of the 5-Series GT, the upcoming 2018 BMW 640xi Grand Turismo is confirmed to arrive on the US market this September, the model being completely new at the exterior as well as under the skin.

This means that in terms of design will come with a more sweeping roofline, with a more versatile design and more appealing body style than the current 5-Series. And since we know how the present 5-Series GT looks like, we surely expect a mind-blowing design for the 6-Series GT.

Following the footsteps of the G30 5-Series, the all-new G32 6-Series Gran Turismo will also stand on the company`s new CLAR (Cluster Architecture) modular platform, meaning steel, carbon fiber and aluminum composites altogether.

This means that it will be more lightweight with around 100 kg, will add increase space inside and more performance under the hood.

Performance wise, the all-new 2018 BMW 640xi Grand Turismo will come with a new 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbo engine in the United States, with a power output of around 350 horsepower. This is the same one used on the 340i and 740i, meaning that it will come standard with the xDrive all-wheel drive layout.

In Europe, things will be looking different, the model packing a wide range of petrol burners and diesels, most of them identical to the ones used on the G30 5-Series.

The petrol pots will comprise the new BMW 630i, 640i and the M650i xDrive, with the latter one featuring a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8. The diesels will come with the 620d, 630d and the top of the line M650d xDrive variant which will feature a B57 quad-turbo pot.

BMW has a pretty full agenda for the 2017, the carmaker preparing lots of new models for the future up-ahead. One particular test mule that caught our attention with its magnificent design is the upcoming 2018 6-Series GT, recently revealed in a spy video while performing some snowy tests.

Set to be revealed at the 2017 Frankfurt Auto Show, the all-new 2018 BMW 6-Series GT is a serious contender for the likes from Mercedes-Benz and Audi, coming out as the official replacement of the already gone 5-Series GT.

In the new form, the 2018 6-Series Grand Tourismo is going to be top notch, with a hotter design and some mighty powertrains under the hood. Not to forget the new list of gadgetries inside, with borrowings from the new 5-Series and 7-Series.

The test mule seen here brings about new styling bits, like a more sweeping roofline, more refined front and rear bumpers, hatchback-like trunk, while retaining the same split-opening hatch at the back. Also, the stretched rear end announces increase storage space.

With a longer wheelbase as well, the new 6-Series GT will be better looking and more elegant than the 5-Series GT, adding as well increase space inside for passengers and luggage. As for the engine lineup, BMW has announced an interesting suite of petrol burners as diesels.

We should be able to see the petrol variants with lots of power and torque, customers being able to choose between the 630i, 649i or the top of the line M650i xDrive. Also, the carmaker will later add the BMW G30 M550i xDrive with a 4.4-liter twin turbocharged V8 mill with plenty of juice. As expected, a oplug-in hybrid iPerformance will also be introduced as well.

On the diesels side, the carmaker will introduce the new BMW 620d, 630d as well as a top of the line M650d xDrive, the latter one packing the brand new B57 quad-turbo pot. The BMW 6-Series GT was caught on spy shots about a week ago, the model coming as a rebadged 5-Series GT version, only looking much bigger and more equipped in terms of performance.

The trend today in the auto industry is building bigger models and this new philosophy seems to fancy BMW carmaker as well. And one good example is the 6-Series GT.

The model is set to come with a sweeping roofline and other evolutionary design lines that would make it hotter than the present 5-Series GT. But the car`s main highlights are under the hood.

As expected, BMW will equip the all-new model with its impressive choice of petrol and diesel engine lineup, starting with the BMW 630i, 640i and finishing with the top of the line M650i xDrive variant. The xDrive will come with a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, the same one found on the G30 M550i xDrive.

On the diesels side, the 6-Series GT will comprise the BMW 620d, 630d as well as the same M650d xDrive, this particular version coming with a freshly-added B57 quad-turbo engine. The company will also introduce three plug-in hybrids, namely the BMW 630e, 640e and the 650e iPerfomance.

In case you were wondering about an M Sport package, then yes, the carmaker is also planning the introduction of such a model, with rather the same high-end M parts fitted on the new 5-Series 540i M Performance, meaning high-end features at the exterior as well as the latest materials inside the cabin.

BMW wants to add up two new engines to the BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo, which will complete the entire lineup of the 3-Series, especially since the 3-Series Gran Turismo has not yet received any new powertrains under the hood. The new engines refer to the GT 318d and the GT 320d, debuting this summer. Let`s see some information on the two new engines concerning performance, fuel-consumption figures and the CO2 emissions.

BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo 318d

The GT 318d will come with the 2.0-liter unit, developing 150 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque, that would make it sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.3 seconds, via the manual transmission. The 318d is 0.1 faster with the automatic transmission.

Apart from the performance figures, the GT 318d, in the manual transmission, is coming with a fuel consumption of 4.5L/100 km, while it the automatic it stands at 4.3L/100 km. The CO2 emissions for the 318d are now standing at 117 g/km (in the manual) and 117 g/km (in the automatic).

BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo 320d

On the other hand, the GT 320d will be powered by the same engine, but the performance figures are higher, as well as the prices. This version comes with 190 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, and sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds, via a manual transmission. The 320d is faster in the automatic, meaning 7.7 seconds.

In the same manual transmission, the 3-Series GT 320d is coming with a fuel consumption of 4.6L/100 km and CO2 emissions of 125 g/km, while the automatic one goes 4.3L/100 km, with CO2 emissions standing t 125 g/km.

Safety features

Apart the two engines, both the GT 318d and 320d, are coming with a wide array of safety gizmos, like airbags fitted at the driver and front-seat passengers and at front-seat passenger side, automatic three-point seatbelts, crash sensors, tire pressure indicator, Brake Energy Regeneration, Automatic start/stop function and much more. No prices have been set yet for the GT 318d and 320d.

BMW has officially launched the BMW 3 Series GT (Gran Turismo), a larger model to the BMW 3 Series Sedan (F30). BMW 3 Series GT offers impressive dynamics due to the drawn design lines by the BMW design masters.

When the Germans at BMW launched the BMW 5 Series GT, almost everyone has criticized this move of BMW. Most people have criticized the design of the BMW 5 Series GT, higher rear and its design not pretty nice. But, the sports allure, luxury and elegance are present when it comes to BMW.

The new BMW 3 Series GT offers a sporty, luxurious design, very well done which looks sexy, these things all made by the specialists from BMW.

BMW 3 Series GT offers more space inside and is slightly longer than the BMW 3 Series Sedan. However I do not see the point of this GT, because right now BMW has in showroom the BMW 3 Series Touring, which is in my opinion, more useful and familiar than the BMW 3 Series GT.

It will be available for the BMW 328i and 335i.

Among the most popular options, there is the M Sport Package (Interior and Exterior M elements) and its interior package includes: an M steering wheel, M shifter, M footrest and at the exterior: M front bumper, M rear bumper, M side skirts. Also, the M Sport Package offers an electronically adjustable sports suspension and hot rims with the sizes of 18″ and 19″.

I am very confused when it comes to a GT variant… because BMW has currently a BMW 3 Series Sedan and also a large model, more familiar, namely the BMW 3 Series Touring. However, BMW 3 Series GT is a very sporty model, an unique car with luxurious interior and exterior.

So far, the direction BMW have been on in chase of the luxury market, has been doing pretty well in figuring out where the money is.

Now though, the tides are changing and the Bavarians are looking to capture another market that’s so far been kept neatly away from them.

The new direction will have a foundation on the new UKL platform BMW are developing in order to take over the front wheel drive market.

As a first trial by fire, the new platform will be underpinning the 1 Series GT and, in a few years, the 1 Series sedan.

Sounds like a pretty good plan, after all, BMW don’t sell any cars that are front wheel drive exclusive apart from what the Mini sub brand is offering.

Such a major change for the actual roundel brand has probably already caused several suicides among diehard purists.

On the less grim side, there are lots of people who are interested in a car with all the practicality of a front wheel drive platform but the driving dynamics of a BMW.

It will not feel the same, but if it’s brilliant for a FWD (which is quite likely given the Mini route) it will still be more interesting than Mercedes or Audi.

The Bavarians seem to be quite confident in their abilities with the front wheel driven platform since they’re working on having 12 models ready in this spec.

Apart from the already known models, a five door Mini is in the works, a new crossover and a larger hatchback are also scheduled.

The difference BMW makes between its concept cars and the models with similar names it releases later on in life are, almost always, negligible.

We’ve all known this for quite some time now yet the Bavarians seem to like exercising secrecy when it comes to testing out these cars in public.

In the case of the 1 Series GT (Active Hybrid Concept) we’ve known what it looks like for the best part of two months now, yet the car is still wearing heavy camouflage.

Not only has this new batch of spy shots caught the 1 Series GT out and about in a spectacularly non-revealing dress, the light fixtures used are the prototype ones.

Could BMW be readying a massive surprise for us? Could they be dramatically changing the look of the 1 Series GT? Could the Bavarians actually change their behavior with concepts?

Not likely. First of all, the BMW Active Hybrid Tourer Concept received positive feedback at the show and most reactions were on the same page.

Secondly, it is an MPV shape that’s pleasant and still speaks BMW on first glance. They managed to get that with a car that’s so close to being hated for its underpinnings.

If that’s the case, obviously BMW are aware of the fact that the car will have plenty of fans and sell in large volumes.

Why would any businessman in his right mind make a decision against this sort of favorable prediction and go in a different direction?

My guess is that they’re using camouflage and concealing the model simply to keep people guessing about what the 1 Series GT will look like or have inside.

It would not have been fair to see the F10 BMW 5 Series facelift running around getting ready for a stage debut, without the unpleasant side of the story turning up.

The… aesthetically challenged F07 BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo is going to get itself a new look as well. More practicality can look good.

This is something that can genuinely happen but it probably won’t in the case of the 5 Series GT. That’s a hopeless idea and a few minor changes will not help.

Seriously, is this thing that good a seller that the Bavarians really don’t feel like dropping it altogether? Last we heard, they were selling a few thousand units per year.

More importantly, there’s a lot of talk about the way the 5 Series GT is drawing some customers away from the 7 Series, which can’t exactly be good for business.

There’s a good chance that BMW actually build this car for them in particular, for those sort of folks who would’ve bought a 7 Series and want the space and practicality without the vast amount of toys and cost.

In the back of my head there’s only one option. Somebody within really loves the 5 Series GT and he’s so far up the hierarchy they’d rather keep the car alive instead of annoy him.

Before people start loving me too much, please accept this as a joke and understand that while I am aware of the plus points of the GT model, i prefer to goof about against it.

The major downside it comes with, that of driving an ugly BMW which you might be ashamed of, is simply too much to take.

The pressure of testing a new BMW prototype, even if there are multiple ones out there, must be quite tremendous. Going round a race track probably doesn’t help relieve that stress.

BMW’s test drivers seem to be well on top of the testing situation. During a test done at the infamous Nurburgring race track one of their F30 3 Series GT models was seriously being pushed.

Normally, we’d be looking at a video of rampant pace or some lap times, but this time we only have still images and we’re still sure there’s speed in the mix.

This is because of what happened at a famous corner around the Green Hell. That’ll be the Karussell turn and as you can see, the car is really going at it.

When the front inside wheel of a car is lifting that far off the ground the only things that pop to mind are speed and commitment.

It wasn’t that long ago that people were looking at an Aston Martin V8 Vantage lifting a wheel in the same corner and being quite impressed.

If that was the case for a high end sports car, what could it possibly signify when talking about a more practical version of a family sedan?

Doubtless, underneath the F30 3 Series GT you’ll find the same mechanical bits as the regular sedan and in this car they have been put through their paces.

By the time the car hits the production line we can expect the chassis to cut back on the stiffening of the chassis and suspension.
