Well this is a bit of a disappointment. After the brilliant BMW 1 Series M Coupe a lot of eyes had turned to the F20 M135i for comfort.

It didn’t disappoint. The small hatchback ran the ‘Ring at a very fast time and then it defeated a track day special Subaru around a circuit.

Apart from these great examples, there are lots and lots of reviews that are basically raves. Something did come up now however.

This is the point where some bad or unfortunate news had to appear. Thankfully, it’s just the first kind we’re dealing with.

One of the … addicts from the 1 Series forum, has identified a bit of foul play with the sound generated by the M135i.

Much like the M5’s Active Sound system, the M135i uses a sound symposer device to provide a different, throatier noise to the interior of the car.

Two videos were posted by the happy owner of such a wonderful machine and he discovered the noise he enjoys so much isn’t real.

Once the device is disconnected, the car’s audio system is disabled, which does kind of convince you not to do it anyway.

The other convincing moment is when you hear the noises in the second video. A very muted straight six cylinder engine is what you get with a few turbo noises here and there.

So what’s the verdict? It’s a shame BMW couldn’t pull it off technically, but we’re sure glad they thought about it long enough to make it happen anyway.

The noise is fake, but the car is brilliant so I for one don’t care, do you?

Frozen Paint is probably one of the most desirable bits of kit you can have on your BMW. Like all things this way, there are some sacrifices that need to be made.

There’s the convenience factor, there’s the cost, there’s the maintenance and there’s the ever present threatening feeling that somebody might be keying your car.

What if you could have all these downsides wiped away and replaced by a small one. What if you could have frozen paint… except it was a little… fake.

That’s precisely what this car is getting. Thanks to a bit of ingenuity, a Russian owner (hopefully) will have a truly nice car to seat his gun in.

You think he’s not a Mafia man? Could be… after all, his 5 Series isn’t black and nor does it have tinted windows or any wheels that are oversized.

Getting back to the cheated Frozen Paint, it seems that the Russians have found a way round the problem by simply covering the car up in foil.

The infamous vinyl wrap trend going on these days inspired the covering of a regular silver painted BMW in a transparent foil.

Thus, less light is reflected and the added depth of the finish imitates the Frozen effect quite well. On top of that, this solution has a few extra plus points.

The annoyance of dead insects and bird droppings is eliminated. Further more, the paint itself is protected by the foil.

Which is quite handy since the Russian roads are full of impurities and often plagued by poor weather.

Here’s another moment of self doubt coming from people who actually own the BMW 1 Series M Coupe, would they screw it up?

BMW made it pretty clear, it’s a limited run car of a very impressive machine and it’s the sort of thing we dream of owning sometime in the future.

But do owners share this opinion? Does the 1 Series M owning crowd feel like there’s nothing that can be done to improve it?

We’ve certainly seen plenty of tuning kits, changing this and that. There’s even a few conversions out there that improve the performance and aerodynamics together.

Some of the packages feature a set of interior changes and some actually go into the equipment side of the story. This find by 1addicts however is out of this world.

It does appear to be a 1 Series M Coupe convertible but we can’t be sure that this is it. The interior doesn’t seem to be the same.

As the forum user cunningly noticed, the leather upholstery does not have orange stitching. This is a trait of the 1 M coupe.

This could mean that the conversion to a convertible was done by swapping all the important bits into a convertible 1 Series but not the interior.

There’s also the much simpler chance that this isn’t a 1 M Coupe at all. It could simply be one of the regular convertibles that got a body kit, suspension and exhaust makeover.

Until the owner clears up the entire event, we’ve only got speculation factor to talk about.
